ESPNU at 11 Friday.

I had hope since Minny was a two and they seemingly weren't much better on paper. So close. 2nd to last team in.

Boom. Not the easiest situation but better than no situation.

So, next year's starting lineup.
royalfan replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
We are obviously going to be deeper and more talented than we have been in recent memory. It is going to be critical for our staff to have a good method behind the subbing. Our best guys still need to play quite a bit. And we have a lot of guys that can develop the hot hand on a given night. We need to ride that hot hand each night, not take him out just to take him out. I can recall a time or two where they really mangled it this year. If a guy is rolling, let him continue to roll. -
So, next year's starting lineup.
royalfan replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
We have a very good problem at the guard spots. Webster, white, Watson, and Gill are all more than capable. We should have a terrifying foursome Call it the trap door defense: Put those 4 on the floor, add whichever other player 6' 8" or taller you want and run and press. Wouldn't do it all the time but there will be moments when you could smother teams with it in short spurts. This is the lineup that is our best IMO. White at the 4. You are correct though, it won't be something we can do often, but we sure could close out games with it, especially if trailing and need to go a little smaller. -
AW-III IS BACK FOR HIS SENIOR SEASON (SOMEWHERE)
royalfan replied to AuroranHusker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Is it reading too much in to it thinking there is a better chance he is leaving with no announcement tonight? Seems like Miles might want to announce it with him at a presser for Andrew. On the other hand, there has been no announcement of a presser, which might be a good sign:) -
AW-III IS BACK FOR HIS SENIOR SEASON (SOMEWHERE)

Please come back asap Andrew. It is becoming a dreadful wait, having to read about the likes of Nick Bahe and Grant Gibbs. I hate Gibbs. That douche is the perfect reflection of that fan base, which is why they love him so much. -
I agree on the graduate transfer thing. The problem is it is not quite as simple to do as it seems. You want to hold out in case something late does break so you have room. You don't want to take a guys just for depth and practice too early just to take one and miss out on the difference maker, even if it is unlikely. And then they might all be gone. It is a risk reward balance kind of thing.

Build the starting lineup/minute distribution for 2016
royalfan replied to Minnesota_Husker's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think we will play smaller more often than people seem to think. Will see our wings playing the 4 a little more, especially if White is back. It allows us to get more of our talent on the court a little more often IMO. -
This sounds good. Hopefully he also adds a dimension of X/O ability that we could certainly use as well.

The Doc team that was giving one of the better Kansas teams ever extreme fits in the conference tourney with a lineup of 4 1/2 or 5 guards was something else. That first half was one of the more fun halves I have ever watched.

Again not rocket science. Getting outcoached means the other team coached better than you did. I cannot believe there is so much confusion about what getting outchoached means. It has nothing to do with the end result of the game. It is simply did you coach better or did they coach better. You can be badly outcoached and still win a game and you can outcoach someone else and lose the game. Making or missing an extreme percentage of shots has nothing to do with coaching. Not making any type of adjustment on simple pick and rolls that result in a no name NW freshman scoring 30 or so points mostly on offensive rebounds because of a flawed defensive scheme does. Hope this helps you understand.

Royal, do you know this first hand? That is not what I heard. But that said, what precisely are the roles of our assistant coaches? I have come to understand that recruiting, teaching one or two of the position groups and game scouting are three of their major roles; but do they draw up our offensive and defensive schemes as well?No inside information. Watching closely showed me that when we started playing better for a stretch, especially offensively, was when he seemed to be taking on a much larger role in the X and O aspect of the games. He was much more involved giving input after a certain point. And I didn't find it to be a coincidence at all, but it is possible that it was.I am not highly confident in our current staff makeup in X and O ability. While recruiting is obviously the most important thing, Miles could use someone that can coach as well. We are possibly in the league with the best coaches. We got outcoached a lot the last couple of seasons. That cannot continue. Not trying to be a douche but can someone explain to me what being out coached actually means? To me, it's a phrase that's loosely thrown about after a loss, usually a close one, where the game could have gone either way but a couple things went wrong and it ended poorly. I know it's the coaching staff's job to game plan and make in game adjustments to that plan to find what works. What if their plan wasn't flawed or wrong? It was essentially a good idea but didn't pan out for whatever reason. Coaches have their own reasons for when and why the do/don't do things. Yes, sometimes being out coached is obvious, but other times I feel the saying is a fan reaction to a loss that could've been a win. Outcoached means that the other staff coached better than you did. Not sure what is so complicated? I didn't say anything about any results, nor does any end result having any bearing whatsoever on if I think we got the better end of the coaching spectrum that game. Perhaps others use it loosely. I don't. And I feel Miles and his staff got outcoached far too many times the last couple of seasons. It probably is not a coincidence that we lost a lot of games as a result.

Should the men move to quaters also?
royalfan replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Reducing the shot clock further would slow the pace of play, not improve it. College coaches don't have to worry about energy levels as much as NBA coaches. They don't have a ton of back to backs or 4 or 5 games in 7 day stretches. The good coaches would be able to use annoyance pressure to really make the game a poor product. If I were a smart coach, I would welcome the change. If I were Miles, I would want me on his staff immediately, so I could explain why token pressure is a must, since he clearly doesn't understand it already should be done. The premium is put on passing the ball. That accentuates the best teams away from the mediocre. Wouldn't be that much different at the collegiate level - essentially since the rich would become richer. The NBA-ready players would be concentrated to those teams willing to play an NBA-type game. That's how I see it.... It depends on what team you are playing against and how good their scheme is. The great teams would leave about 16 seconds or so after crossing half court to get a shot off if the shot clock was taken to 24. Combined with many junk defenses and the lack of creating own shot ability that exists in the NBA, it would be an unmitigated disaster if the clock went shorter is how I see it. -

He was probably our best X and O coach on our staff. Hopefully we can get someone that can truly help Miles on that part as well as pull in recruits as well. That is asking a lot.

Agree big time. Bakari can play. He was a victim of us not having any big men as well in a way. Bakari will do well somewhere else. And he could no well at a higher level program than most here realize. there was almost no chance of fuller leaving this year. it's way more likely he'll be a grad transfer next year and not have to sit out a year. Yeah. Understood. Reading my post back, I should have made it more clear that I was just making a point that I think Bakari can play a bit. Ambivalent on Fuller. Just never seen a kid forgot how to shoot as much as he has. Actually, maybe I have. Andy Markowski. Very similar in their path of not being able to shoot, although Markowski had an injury that may have contributed to his regression. Both lights out in high school. Both unable to throw it in the ocean from the beach in college.

I don't want to speak for Dean and I realize you did mention "except for late game situations." Late game situations can mean many things, so I will say that it can be smart to use one prior to a minute remaining after a basket to prevent someone like Maryland doing what they did to us and intentionally ran an extra 13 seconds off the clock by simply refusing to go get the ball to inbound. One or two time outs should be allocated just for that purpose of prevention if you are managing the clock. Stupid rule forces your hand.

It would be miserable to have life suck so bad. I may be in the minority of actually feeling sorry for this fella.

It is interesting to think about. Not a lock he could have recruited well enough to Lincoln though. In fact, probably could not have. I do like the style of basketball his teams play though. I have said many times that I am a proponent of token annoyance pressure that doesn't expose you drastically on the back end. He does that.

Barkley making picks is comical. Over under on how many teams he can name a player on is about 9.5.

Nebraska (16-17) Vs. Maryland (24-7) Game Thread
royalfan replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
NCAA clearly needs to go to the clock stoppage in the last two minutes instead of one minute, just like the NBA who has it correct. Especially since there is no ball advancement like the NBA on a time out(and for the record I am not sure why there should be auto ball advancement)
