  1. This time of year, I normally wouldn't waste your time with an off topic thread. However, since the Huskers don't play for another week, and the Creighton game has been dissected about everyway possible, here you go. I was a student at UNL when John Lennon was murdered. As in the case of most tragedies, one always remembers where he/she was at. Howard Cosell making the announcement on Monday Night Football was unforgettable. The murder left me numb for weeks. I grew up a huge Beatles fan. The first 45 I ever bought was Hey Jude. I was 7 years old at the time. (Yep, the little cipster loved rock and roll at an early age. ) John was always my favorite Beatle. I loved his sharp sense of humor. I was excited to see him return to the music scene in 1980. I was disappointed that he included Yoko on half the Double Fantasy tracks, but, that was John.... Instead of holding a memorial service, Yoko asked the world to observe a moment of silence for John the Sunday following his death. Z 92 held an event at Rosenblatt Stadium. Several of my friends and I went to it. On a cold December morning, the place was pretty much full. They played Lennon songs and led up to the moment of silence with "A Day In The Life" from Sgt. Pepper's. In the weeks following the tragedy, FM stations played this Lennon song on a regular basis. He originally wrote the song because people in the early seventies were clamoring for the Beatles to reunite. It turned out to be eerily accurate about the end of his life. It's hard for me to imagine it's already been 32 years. (And I'm still waiting for that first NCAA tourney win. ) RIP, John.

  4. Cheap seats: I am entirely in accordance with your request to limit the cerebral prestidigitation necessary to confront the pompous verbosity of multisyllabic posters. Therefore the moderators should adhere to the modern common denominator of tweets and texts. To paraphrase our venerated mentor Professor Larry, just Git 'er done.

I honestly don't see this as a zero sum issue as much as Norm does. I'm one of those people--seems like there used to be a lot more of us back in the day--that wants both programs to be relatively strong. One reason we don't have a lot of D1 players is that hoops isn't a big thing in the sporting culture of the state. But there was a time when volleyball wasn't, either. Or baseball. Two winning programs might help boost hoops participation at earlier ages, leading to the production of better homegrown players. There are also enough differences between the circumstances of the two programs--conference membership and BCS status not the least of them--that probably preclude a total overlap of recruiting.

  6. I realize I'm an old fossil, but as a fan, I'd rather be in Ahearn over over Bramlage. And I'd give my left arm to move into the old Coliseum over BDSC and PBA. Those places - especially the Coliseum - have character.

  7. I have not lost one ounce of my excitement for the future of this team. I have my eyes on the light shining brightly at the end of this tunnel. Some folks need to sit back, relax, and let Coach Wizard (I mean Miles) work his magic. Patience is a virtue Mr. OP

  8. i say the wild card is shields, i mean if grows another two-three inches he could be a 6'8-6'9 swing/post player but i think we need to snag another big, and subtly put Vuetic on some roids...or make him eat, live, and lift with the Offensive Lineman in the offseason. I will say i did hear a positive comment from a creighton fan, she said our players are far more built and imtimidating than creighton's players, she said a few of our players belong on the football field.
