How’s Nick defense expected to be in this system? What I’m hearing in this thread sounds like a taller Sam (Hoiberg, not Griesel) with a better stroke. If he brings hustle and knows where to be on D, he’ll get minutes whether you call it PG/SG or whatever.

Actually I don't think he is even the most immature player on his team.   Queen behaves like a toddler on the court.   Not sure I have ever seen a player whine as much.   Then at the end he taunts the crowd like an arrogant little brat.

    So much this.

So, Nick is a dude. Fred is really high on him and he can shoot it very well with a hand in his face. He’s one of the few players you’ll see that actually hits more contested shots than wide open. So, hopefully that translates next year because he’s shown a knack for hitting contested shots at a very high level, so far. Listings are a bit misleading, Nick may be listed heavier than Cale but Cale is definitely not lighter than Jano. Cale could probably play for our football team.

I've mentioned before how high and excited I am on janowski because I feel like he has that "IT" factor. I really think the redshirt year will be helpful for him. I think he'll start or be a one of 2 primary 2s next year with a vet PG next to him, and Nick will provide relief when that PG goes to the bench.

Agree I see him as a combo now and hopefully PG later. I’ve only seen highlights (lots) and the scrimmage but I thought his handle was pretty good and I remember areal nice pass or two in the scrimmage.

Don’t have a feel for his athleticism, might not be great but didn’t seem like he is slow or anything. I’m looking forward to see what he can do.

Rhymes im not sure what to expect from, but I think frager jumps Griffiths in the rotation and Nick janowski is an immediate impact guy from the jump. Portal will be interesting because they should have two starting spots locked up next year at the 4/5.

I’ve talked to former players who are SUPER High on Rhymes & expect him to fill the Brice Role Next season (to some degree obviously) I can only hope he’s that type of Impact Player. We’ll see…

Hey guys just curious - if you had a 7'1" guy with a 20 foot wingspan who can jump out of the gym and was first team all defense in the pac whatever it's called - would you have him flying all over the place guarding ball screens, being on the perimeter, and bringing other dudes in the post to double with him?

Wouldn't you run him out to start the 2nd half when you needed defensive stops?  We at least kept pace but our defense couldn't make a stop until he got in.  Then the possessions at the end of game...  I don't see guards driving the lane with Meah inside.

Just hoping guys get healthy quickly.  Northwestern is a game I wish we would keep the doubling to a minimum.

Basically, we had an old push lawn mower that got the job done but it took you 3 hours to mow the lawn and made you work hard. We found an old riding lawn mower sitting on the curb and bought it to reduce our mowing time and effort. The only problem is it doesn't cut very sharp, can't get in tight spots and needs to be refueled 3 times during a mowing session. So it ends up being 3+ hours by the time you're done.

I don't know if I would call a former Pac-12 1st Team All Defense guy an old riding lawn mower sitting on the curb. He used to have double digit block games and many double digit rebounding games.

The better analogy is that we had an old push lawn mower that ran great and got the job done, but you had to really work at it. Then one summer our brother-in-law let us use his $3000 zero turn mower for the cost of fuel and repairs, but instead of sitting on it and using it, we decided we'd push it from behind and use a bungie cord lever system to push the zero turn handles down.

Assume this is a reference to Meah

No, the other 7'1" guy on our team. 😜

But, at the same time if you are going to have a team defensive system can it be completely different with Morgan or Berke at that spot than it is with Meah?   If you do play defense differently with different players on the floor does that inhibit your ability to defend as a "unit" over time?

At the P5, division 1 level... no, it should not.

We're allowing the 3rd most points per game in conference play. Our defense is stupid and poorly designed. It worked as a gimmick last year, and that's it.

If you or anyone else doesn't agree with me.... go watch just exactly how much effort is required to play this defense when it "goes well." And tell me that, if any other part of your life, you put that much effort into something and it resulted in being the 3rd worst in our field, would you continue doing it?

I had a real hard time believing this so I had to look it up, considering he doesn't appear to have an inherent feel for rim protecting or a knack for rebounding. His career high in blocks is 6 and that was against Cal Poly. In 140 career games, he's had double digit rebounds in 10 of those. He has the measurables, no doubt. But he doesn't have the intangibles.

Whoops. Read his Huskers.com page wrong.

Regardless, he used to block a lot of shots.
