Silverbacked1 Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 This is unreal: 60.6Mitchell’s three-point shooting percentage 58.6Mitchell’s two-point shooting percentage Mitchell is averaging 24.2 points, 7.4 rebounds and 3 blocks. She has hit 20 of 33 three-pointers and 34 of 58 two-point field goals. Read more here: http://www.kansas.com/sports/high-school/article53516145.html#storylink=cpy Quote
Bugeaters1 Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 And add in 4* MI Cole Cayton the guard spot should get some what healthy. Quote
HUD Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 Hannah Whitish has been having a good year as well. In late December she rolled an ankle and only played the first half of that game. She had 27 pts. in the first half. She's back playing again after a short recovery. Quote
redsteve Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 As we all know they will come in as "rookie" freshman. So it will take a while for then to adapt to the level of play. Just hope we'll get at least a couple that can get into games ASAP, and contribute. We'll see on that point. Mittchell will have a her height going for her at wing. Easier to shoot over many guards. If she can shoot that well on the next level, Connie will have to get the offense ready to get her open consistently. Right now we aren't working the offense well enough to get outside people free to shoot, especially against better teams.. Don't know her floor game, haven't seen videos. If she can run...will give her a big advantage finding her place. Quote
whoopdeedoo Posted January 8, 2016 Author Report Posted January 8, 2016 kind of a bummer many of us looking at next year already. Quote
Red Don Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 kind of a bummer many of us looking at next year already. Sez the one who started the thread! Just kidding Whoop; but aren't we always looking ahead and licking our chops? (Not counting me because I've just discovered Girls ) All kidding aside, Grace Mitchel is an intriguing prospect! redsteve Posted January 8, 2016 Report Posted January 8, 2016 I guess I haven't given up on this year until the year is over. Absolutely correct ! Still have the opinion we've just not been able to get to where we want to be yet.....but we have some player talent ......and a staff that will keep working hard. Connie is asking for big crowd support this weekend to show them some... Quote
HUD Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 The biggest factor in how we will do from here on out this year in my estimation hinges on Rachel T. getting healthy. Apparently C. Yori told one of the BTN announcers when asked how Rachel's injury is effecting her she said that she is at about 75%. I wonder if it is the same old injury from last year that was aggravated or something else. 75% out of her against lower competition comes out OK but put that up against some of the top talent in the conference it's not or would it be for any other high performers if they were in the same situation. whoopdeedoo Posted January 9, 2016 Author Report Posted January 9, 2016 my fault. i really wasn't trying to imply anyone should give up on this year-or ever give up. my statement may have come out a little wrong. there IS a lot of bb to be played. most of us expected this team to be playing good bb towards the latter part of the schedule---if you include ooc, we are getting there. i think everyone knew that the opening 3 game stretch was really going to be difficult---and it proved out to be so. Big Red will always have my support through thick and thin---even though it's "long distance". like i stated earlier, some winnable games ahead of them----although @rutgers will be another tough one (not to mention upcoming home game). they play a physical, and sometimes chaotic bb. not afraid to foul (at least in the iowa game i watched). hoping this team can get some 'w's and chemistry improves. btw, i just stumbled on that article about grace mitchell either on fb or twitter----can't remember. thought it was a good read for Big Red followers. If the fouls would get called that need to get called inside we would be ok inside. I think it is starting to frustrate Jess. Quote
RunningRed Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 Agree RT is crucial. Think coach may have her toughest task this year to somehow accelerate the development of the newbies. As others have mentioned injuries have slowed progress, but in my opinion it will be the development of their mental toughness in games where they believe they can outwork and out hustle the opponent in the close games - a staple of a Yori coached team. If the fouls would get called that need to get called inside we would be ok inside. I think it is starting to frustrate Jess. It was mentioned before I think....Jess is getting hammered because that's how you can beat her inside. Until, and if ever, the fouls are called ....she will continue to get abused. But it probably won't change. At times she looks a little freshman timid.....just not used to the abuse....fight back girl ! I watched a few B1G games in the last week or so, and banging and crashing is prevalent in league play. So, yes, Jess will have to adapt....change her game somewhat, and/or learn to return the favor. She doesn't contest shots much...NU doesn't in general by design. The team also might need to look more, at how she's used to some extent, and allow her to get open...not just feed her the ball when she's being double teamed. (they have tried a couple of plays recently to do just that)........Big learning curve for the freshman. By the way, the majority of the team could make use of pull up jumpers...we force to many layups ...that get blocked. Back to Mitchel.... We desperately need a solid shooter like her. Quote
HUD Posted January 9, 2016 Report Posted January 9, 2016 I never had the opportunity to see Jess play in high school except on TV a couple of times. But from what I read she had a decent outside shot including 3 ptrs.` Can anyone confirm that? Quote

I'm surprised she hasn't taken many of those shots up till now. I wish she would. I know she can make them, I seen her nail that jumper a lot in high school. Quote

Yes, that was said on the BTN broadcast, and they were quoting Connie. At least what was obvious to close observers has been confirmed. Very sad, as Rachel is a great player and is clearly limited. At this point, I can't imagine there will be much improvement during the season. One can only hope. Also, I suspect Clark is no more than 80% with her knees, and Jess is struggling to get in top shape after being sidelined so long before the season. And in addition to her illness, it sounds like Rachel B. is banged up. Would love to see us with those 4 at 100%. Quote
whoopdeedoo Posted January 9, 2016 Author Report Posted January 9, 2016 plus, Nat did sprain an ankle in the Cali game, correct? though, if she isn't 100%, she appears to be showing no ill effects. RB43 tweaked a knee in practice (late Dec?, according to matt c.) can't forget e.r. too, and her knee. the squad definitely has battled injuries-------again. Quote

HUD Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 Grace has led her team to an 18-0 season. She is averaging over 21 points including 3.5 three pointers per game shooting at over 50% from that range. Quote
kansashusker Posted February 23, 2016 Report Posted February 23, 2016 She is a good player and good kid. Kansas hs basketball talent level is way down this year and her team hasn't played much meaningful competition but i would think they have a decent chance to make a run at state. Bishop Miege from KC would likely be the biggest hurdle for her team. Like all freshman there will be a learning curve, but Huskers fans will enjoy her. Quote
