Row6Seat10 Posted June 5, 2015 Author Report Posted June 5, 2015 Duke's Sierra Calhoun transfers to Ohio St. Big pick up for OSU. Ohio State women's basketball head coach Kevin McGuff has announced the signing of sophomore transfer guard Sierra Calhoun. "I'm incredibly excited to add Sierra Calhoun to the Ohio State women's basketball family," said McGuff. "She is an outstanding person who will add a tremendous amount to our program both on and off the court. She should be a terrific fit as we continue our march toward national prominence in women's college basketball." Calhoun will redshirt during the 2015-16 season while fulfilling transfer requirements and will be eligible at the beginning of the 2016-17 season. She will have three seasons of eligibility remaining. http://www.ohiostatebuckeyes.com/sports/w-baskbl/spec-rel/060515aaa.html Quote
whoopdeedoo Posted June 6, 2015 Report Posted June 6, 2015 i didn't know Calhoun's transfer was in the makes right after the first of the year. evidently, Duke was not a good fit for her---whether from the point of bb, or, just the school itself. that's an awful nice "get" for osu. should allow osu to really make some noise on the national scene. especially during mitchell's jr and sr season. easily should be top 10 team---maybe put them around the top 5. just got a feeling guff is going to bring in MAA's more often than not. hate to say it, but, i could see maryland and osu being the cream of the crop in the big ten---especially the next 3-4 yrs. although, i have stated before i think maryland will always be in the running as long as frese remains there. no doubt other big ten teams have their work cut out for them. huskerchode Posted June 16, 2015 Report Posted June 16, 2015 Does OSU play UConn before we play them? Quote
huskerchode Posted June 17, 2015 Report Posted June 17, 2015 Maybe OSU will soften them up for us. Quote
Row6Seat10 Posted August 1, 2015 Author Report Posted August 1, 2015 Ohio St grabs another top ACC transfer in North Carolina's 6'3 Stephanie Mavunga. As a sophomore last season she started 35 games for the Tar Heels and averaged 14.4 points and 9.6 rebounds. She was voted in as a member on the ACC All Conference 1st team. http://buckeyextra.dispatch.com/content/stories/2015/08/01/0801-ohio-state-women.html Quote
cyinne Posted November 16, 2015 Report Posted November 16, 2015 Reminder if anyone would like to "scout" 2 of our opponents this year OSU takes on UConn at 4:30 on ESPN2. Quote
swmckewon Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 100-56 UConn. McGuff is a great talent collector, no doubt there. We'll see how it all comes together. Quote
huskerchode Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I saw very little of the OSU-UConn game. It looked like OSU was completely shell-shocked. There were a couple of times where they had 4 girls under the basket to rebound, and a lone UConn player would hustle in and grab the rebound for an easy put-back. OSU either would just stand there and watch, or then hack the UConn player for an and-1. UConn had taken them completely out of the game. I am not looking forward to playing either of these teams. OSU is a good team, but UConn is probably going to win another NC and everyone else is fighting for second place. I would like to think maybe we can hang with them for a quarter, but our defense is my biggest concern. We need to be tested before we play UConn but I don't think that is going to happen. On the one hand, I do like that the bench is getting to play and we are seeing what these girls can do. On the other hand, the first two games have been too easy. Bugeaters1 1 Quote
redsteve Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Agree we aren't really ready for a UConn. But Connie knows that, and will prepare the team for what might occur. And that's about all that can be done for now. If our newbies had a year or two to develop then who knows. It's almost impossible to know the psyche of OSU going into that game. Maybe they read so many of their press clippings on how good their supposed to be this year.....it was a shock when they were being embarrassed on the floor.....But who knows? Connie's teams are always fighters, so we all hope our team, does indeed fight hard, and just represents NU well as they can. Don't have preconceived thought, just be positive and play hard no matter the outcome. I'm sure we'll be better off going after the big guys in the sport. Bugeaters1 1 Quote
KarlHessEatMy.... Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I am putting my bets on Blackburn or Simon guarding Stewart when we play UCONN!!! I think they are the only ones quick and tall enough to guard her Quote
HUD Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 Pretty tough assignment for anyone let along a freshman with Stewart being a four year starter and having played against the best of the best during that time. Even if we get beat by a lot it will be a great experience especially with them coming to Lincoln next year. It will provide Yori some great teaching opportunities. I think UCON will be our only non conference defeat. When we play Iowa as our first conference game we should be rated in top 20. We really need to stick it to Iowa. Hate to lose to them in anything. huskerchode Posted November 17, 2015 Report Posted November 17, 2015 I think Cal could be a tough game. Quote

Yep.... and we're a significantly different team this year, and we should be at full strength then with some games under our belt before Iowa. Iowa.... They are in a bit of a rebuilding process....two of their top dogs...Doolittle and Logic are gone. UConn has all 5 starters that can score, so any of them can score...anytime. Like we've said here...our largely rookie defense may be problematic. But Connie will have some stuff up her sleeve, and have our girls as ready as they can be considering the circumstances. I like our chances of having a competitive game. And ......LIke I thought early on...NU #39 rated...no way. Bugeaters1 1 Quote
