whoopdeedoo Posted April 5, 2015 Report Posted April 5, 2015 if AZB remains silent, should be many a nervous fan in minny for awhile. although, i did read where some don't take michelle smith too seriously. IF she decided to go to WNBA, wonder if Banham might have second thoughts on her decision to return to minny? losing AZB would be HUGE---losing AZB and Banham would just be a killer. would she be #1 pick? think she would be in top 3. dlrrk Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 Is it true women players make more money in Europe than they do in the WNBA? If yes, why wouldn't she return to Europe? Is there a deadline where she must publicly declare her intentions? Regardless, I hope she leaves and makes a lot of money. Quote

She can't play man defense without fouling, so Minnesota plays zone and gives up a truckload of points. I'll be curious to see how she does. Interesting attitude, plays in spurts, doesn't care if players score on her, gets frustrated easily...lots of talent and size, though. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted April 6, 2015 Report Posted April 6, 2015 Yep lots and lots of size. And the flopping goes pro. Quote

Stollings managed her well by playing a zone. Zahui fouls. A lot. kinda what i was hinting at. didn't think the minny staff did a very good job with the "fouling" part of her game. at times, azb would develop an attitude during the game and get herself in trouble. also seems to be some discussion amongst some gopher fans concerned about this being the 6th player leaving the program. stems from stollings being named interim head coach while an assistant at NMSU. took over for a dismissed Nikita Lowry (head coach). Lowry was put in a different position within the athletic dept. all from an investigation of player abuse. most of the players threatened to quit if she remained coach. now, Lowry is assistant and recruiting director under stollings. i can see where it might raise some questions when you have that many leave your program. Bugeaters1 Posted April 6, 2015 Author Report Posted April 6, 2015 I'm in the over rated club as well. She didn't run the floor very well IMHO Quote

She'll have quite a learning curve to adjust to the WNBA. Centers are expected to be defensive stoppers/rim protectors. And while she's dominant in college at 6'5", that's not exactly dominant at the next level, where quite a few teams have centers 6'5" or more. It will be fascinating to see her go up against the likes of Brittney Griner. Quote

arliepro Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Anybody think that Banham rethinks her decision to return next season because of AZB's decision to leave? Too late for her to declare for the draft now. The deadline was 11:59 p.m. Monday. Quote
Row6Seat10 Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 Anybody think that Banham rethinks her decision to return next season because of AZB's decision to leave? I think she returns too, she needs to prove to herself and the wnba she can come back and play at a high level. I'm sort of glad she will play again in college, as I like to watch players like her that can shoot lights out. Quote
Cazzie22 Posted April 7, 2015 Report Posted April 7, 2015 She might have been like Courtney Paris at OU a few year's ago. Who was the 6'3 transfer forward on Minnesota this year. Her name escapes me and I think the Gophers will miss her a great deal. Quote
whoopdeedoo Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 you might be talking about shae kelley? she really came on the 2nd half of the season. the athleticism was always there, but, i read where she had made a decision she needed to "pick things up" halfway through. no doubt they will miss her. btw, i believe she was listed at 6'1". with azb gone, minny could be VERY small next season. they do have a 6'5" gal on the roster but i read she is very raw. they do have a 6'1" wing coming in from canada. i would have to believe stollings is scrambling for some height. otherwise, think their roster is full of 5'9" guards. although "full" is probably not the correct term for the time being. redsteve Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 I'm in the over rated club as well. She didn't run the floor very well IMHO Yep, She's certainly was not a "force" when we played her. If she does make it in Pro ball, she'll have to pick up the pace, and gain some skills in a hurry. Not sure she has the right mentality. Quote
huskerchode Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Seems to me AZB was pretty inconsistent in her play. Was not impressed with her at all when we played her. But then she had some games against other teams where she put it together and played well. But not often enough. Maybe the WNBA can coax that out of her. Quote
HB Posted April 8, 2015 Report Posted April 8, 2015 Man, I love our guys--"despite going 28 and 27 last night, she's overrated and doesn't bring much to the table". A better post player than anything we've put on the floor in years. A special talent; I'd take her in a minute. Great improvement between freshman and sophomore years. Inconsistency is what those years are about. She would have been a dominant player her last 2 years in this league. A nightmare for defensive coaches. Quote
dlrrk Posted April 9, 2015 Report Posted April 9, 2015 I have to agree with the "All-American." AZB seems to be a special player. When she goes to the WNBA she'll be able to practice all day, every day. No classes to attend, no NCAA rules that limit practice time... Take a look at two of AZB's games below. I know it's a small sample size, but they demonstrate outstanding results as well as potential... Plus the NBA drafts on potential. Amanda Zahui B: 27 points & 27 rebounds in Minnesota's 91-88 double overtime victory over Michigan. 39 points & 29 rebounds as Minnesota upset No. 13 Iowa 93-80 I'm glad she is gone, and I hope she does well in the WNBA. Row6Seat10 Posted April 12, 2015 Report Posted April 12, 2015 Most draft experts have Lloyd as the top pick and Zahui B going at #2, to of all places Tulsa where she would become a teammate of Jordan Hooper in next weeks WNBA draft. Would like to see Tee Laudermill get a chance with some team. Not too long ago she was considered to be a late round draft pick but her stock has slipped these last couple of months. Quote
