The 5300 is how many tickets were sold. They don't deduct no shows. That's how the football sell out streak continues. There have been lots of football games with empty seats.

I thought that Nebraska didn't do that, That they only counted tickets through the turn stile? Did you make the game Fastbreaker?

You are correct, Bugs.   We have in the past reported actual attendance, although that put us on an island in the conference.    But today we must have joined the rest of the league in counting people very creatively.   No way we had 5300 in there.  If you can't beat 'em, join them I guess.

The last 35 minutes Emily's defense was outstanding.  Great job face guarding Goree.

When Rachel hits shots we're hard to beat. Both Emily and Hailie did a great job of shutting down Goree. Hailie hitting her lay ups and grabbing some key offensive rebounds was key! Defense came alive the second half. Good to see Tee nail those three's at very crucial times!

#1 from Michigan is still looking for her shorts after Natalie gave her that eyebrow fake at the free throw-line and went around her for an easy two!! Play of the game!!

Would have liked to see Jasmine Cincore get some minutes especially since her folks traveled all the way from Memphis to see her play! No reason she couldn't have gotten in for a few minutes, Kalenta too for that matter.

It looked liked Brandi's knee is still bothering her. She was limping at times out there.

You're right about Brandi, Row 6.  Only played 16 minutes, and she clearly isn't herself.  Hope she can return to full speed in this her senior season.  She had been having such a good year.

And I agree on Natalie's cross-over.  Total ankle-breaker.  She can play fast with the ball; gotta like that.

wow. so glad to admit i was wrong (first 5-7 minutes will set the tone for the game). when michigan jumped out to that lead, i was thinking, ok, the team can whittle away at that lead and give themselves a shot at winning it at the end. i just didn't think they would come out second half and run away with it!!!

That will be huge next year....having some speed.  We've got some height coming in next year, but no speedster.  But Jazz will probably offset some of that too.

Don't you suppose Yori will try to find another quick guard since we've lost a couple schoolies?

What little I have seen of Cincore, she seems to have a quick first step.  I know on the track, Maddie Simon is fast and I would think some of that will translate to the court.  The spotlight is on Jess Shepard in this next class coming in, but I think Maddie is going to earn playing time next year as well.  Still, no one as quick as T, but you could say that about a lot of teams.

Not sure there's another quick guard out there that's not unsigned by someone by now. Most likely would have to go the juco route. And as we're finding out this season Yori doesn't play juco's so there's most likely not much of a chance that will happen.

The look of our team will be different next year. With Jess coming in, who also has ball handling skills, Havers with her height, Kalenta, and Washington for some muscle, we will have depth in those positions, something we haven't had in a while. Then with Theriot back, Romeo at point, Chandler with some height, and hopefully we will see much more of Cincore, plus height and decent speed in Simon. And I haven't even mentioned Blackburn yet. Simon has a high basketball IQ and seems to be the type of player that Yori really likes. I'm excited to see how it all comes together. Some more speed would be great, but I think we will have some things in place to make up for not having a speedster like T.

absolutely. i think more and more fans are realizing that same thing. enjoy that last few games at PBA that all of the seniors are entering.

The obvious elephant in the room is next year.

Havers will be back with two years experience. And of course...Jess...but she will take some time to get into B1G playing shape, and learn the system. Washington will be a new RS inside. Blackburn may well enter the picture.

The "system" next year will probably be different....haven't really thought it out...but we'll be different looking team. We should be fairly deep in the guard/wing positions, with Rachel leading the troops

i noticed, depending on what site you search, Jess is listed at 6'3" or 6'4". not a big deal, but, that does seem to happen a lot when it comes to height details. for those in-the-know, just what type of game does Jess have? from what i have read so far, gave her excellent marks for her game around the basket, but, does Jess have some range to her offense?

since her injury happened when it did, i would guess her chances of being ready for the start of the season or very shortly after are pretty high. that is, as long as she suffers no setbacks.

Don't  claim to  be in the know on Jess....but you could say she is a bit like Cady and Sample combined...offensively.

But probably has better moves with the ball.....can drive to basket from clear out by the 3 arc, and can shoot 3s too. She'll probably be one the better overall bigs we've ever had. Has a complete offensive game. She's not shy about mixing it up. High bball IQ

And Jess can run the floor too. What can be said, but... size with skills.

Watching her play on the USA team, she was a scorer there too. The coach had her playing a little out of her normal position, but she caught on quickly.

It will be real enjoyable to watch...hope she heals up, and can get in shape before next fall. Playing defense will be the biggest challenge for her....just the constant and quicker speed of the game.

Watch for her getting double teamed right away.

Jess reminds me a lot of Chatrice White but a lot more agile and quicker.. I think she will be able to put up big numbers like white is for Illinois this year. She will be pretty fun to watch over her 4 years. Hopefully we can bring in another top recruit like her that will want to play with Jess...

Michigan head coach Kim Barnes-Arico on the radio today in Ann Arbor talking about last weeks games against Maryland and Nebraska.

"Nebraska was a great game but with our quick turnaround from the Maryland game are kids were pretty exhausted.."

"Lincoln is a tough place to play and every time we have gone there we have struggled a little bit." " But we came out ready to go, we jumped out to a big lead early. Our kids shot the ball really, really well and were focused and we played great defense."

"We held them to 25 points at the half and held them to 36% shooting. And then like I said with the quick turnaround we ran out of gas the second half."

"Their fans really made a difference for them. They get a tremendous crowd at home."

"They have a great senior class and they are a top team in the country as well."

"So we struggled down the stretch of that game but really it was back and forth for 35 minutes of that game."

"They play a crazy kind of defense where they kind of slough off. And they tried to double team Cyesha most of the game and that’s why her touches were a little bit down."

Harrowing experience getting out of Lincoln Sunday after the game.

"Yeah it was kind of a rough week anyway, we got there the night before the game and we lose power in the hotel for a few hours because of a fire close to the hotel."

"The next day there’s a storm in Ann Arbor and there’s a storm in Nebraska. So after the game (we lost a really tough one so) everyone wants to get home and have an opportunity to rest because Monday was our day off. So right after the game the airport called and said it’s going to be some time, we can’t land in Michigan until 10 pm that night so you have to just stay put."

"So we to sit at the arena for a number of hours. So, you know it’s the Super Bowl and the kids were exhausted and the last thing you want to do is stay at the gym after you lost. We watched the Super Bowl til half time and the kids wanted to stay and watch Katie Perry. So, then we hopped on the bus and headed over to the airport and got on the plane and sat on the plane for another 3 and half hours. They then made the determination they couldn’t get the plane de-iced so we headed back to the hotel at 11:30. And then woke up the next morning and they still weren’t ready to take us."

"It was tough, would have been an opportunity to get a day of rest as we didn’t have school Monday and the kids could have stayed in their own beds and got some home work done. But, we finally made it back, it was great, we were so excited to get back to Ann Arbor last night I think we got in around 5.

redsteve, KarlHessEatMy: thanks for the info on JS. the bio on Jess did state that she has excellent footwork around the basket. i wondered if she had the ability to stretch the defense a bit. i could see that turning into a huge benefit for Havers, not to mention the others---but, think it's something Havers could really take advantage of.
