BigP50 Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Today, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, were able to secure a commitment from a 4-star power forward thats plays for Simeon Career Academy, in Chicago, Illinois. The same high school that produced Ben Wilson, Derrick Rose, Jabari Parker, and a plethora of other stars from the city. While everyone is excited that Nebrasketball landed a 4-star recruit, I am here to take my excitement to the next level. Ed Morrow is not only an excellent player, but he is a game changing player. I follow Chicago high school basketball very closely, and I have never seen the toughness that I have seen out of Morrow. I think that he has the potential, maybe not to the highest degree, but to make an impact at Nebraska, similar to the impact that Anthony Davis made at Kentucky. Davis was only highly touted as a senior, and made his impact felt while a senior, and at UK, and now as a member of the New Orleans Pelicans. Where I see the biggest comparison is Morrow is not going to come in and dominate the scoring column. That will be left to guys like Terran, Walter and Andrew White. Morrow is going to bring the toughness that the Huskers have been looking for down low. He is 6'7", but his wing span makes him a virtual 7 footer. Morrow will make it extremely difficult for opposing teams to get anything down low. On the offensive side of the ball, Morrow will use his toughness, big body, and long arms to get to the basket with ease. He can score over anyone and finish at the rim with the best of them. Bottom line, this is a guy that can come in and play right away. He is Big ten ready right now, and will only get better this season while playing with one of the best high school basketball programs in the country. jdostal 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Excellent insight!!! I certainly hope he rises quickly into a difference maker. We need them. Quote
FredsSlacks Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 who does his game most compare to? I see a lot of aaron gordon in his highlight videos. Quote
BigP50 Posted September 22, 2014 Author Report Posted September 22, 2014 Aaron Gordon is a good comparison, however, there are big differences between them. Aaron Gordon is more of an athletic player who uses his jumping ability to score points and block shots. Morrow uses his strength and arm length to muscle guys up. Honestly, I cant think of an exact comparison. He is a unique player. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 who does his game most compare to? I see a lot of aaron gordon in his highlight videos. The big dawg, Glenn Robinson, Jr. Athletic PF w/ a very quick first step who can score underneath and has the handles to drive effectively. Appears to be a decent perimeter shooter, although I don't have stats to verify that. Quote
jimmykc Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Highlight reels are nice, but has anyone here seen him play in person? What about his passing skills, court savvy, and ability to fit into a team concept? How many years can NU expect to see him on the court? Does anyone think he might be starting by the end on this year or are we being lured into exceedingly high expectations by our joy in having him finally sign? Quote
BigP50 Posted September 22, 2014 Author Report Posted September 22, 2014 He CAN play right away, I think the bigger issue will be the people that are currently on the team, and if they stay or go. Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Honestly after watching the Global Challenge games online, so seeing a couple whole games, he reminds me of a very young Dennis Rodman. Physical and powerful but limited on the offensive side of the ball outside of inside moves and dunking. He will be the enforcer off the bench next year and be the worm for Nu on the glass. I wont expect a ton of points and expect most will come off rebound put backs. Quote
BigP50 Posted September 22, 2014 Author Report Posted September 22, 2014 I would expect to see the offensive rebound numbers rise with him on the court. Quote
MandRHusker Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Hmmm, the comments about Ed Morrow are interesting. I thought I read a comment from Coach Miles that he thought Ed's eventual position would be as a SF or wing. I assumed this is why we will sign an obvious PF like Mike Jacobson and are still recruiting a true center. What are your thoughts about Ed developing into a SF? Quote
BigP50 Posted September 22, 2014 Author Report Posted September 22, 2014 If he gets even better at ball handling, he just becomes an even bigger threat. With the length of his arms, and body size, driving from the wing to the basket would be very hard to stop. Quote
MandRHusker Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Thanks BP! What about his shot from 15 feet & the arc? The film where he played Okafor last season made it look like he can effectively shoot from distance. Quote
BigP50 Posted September 22, 2014 Author Report Posted September 22, 2014 I think he is more than capable of knocking it down, but that is not where he will make his name. Ed will use his talents to score in the post. Quote
GATA Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 Anthony Davis comparisons?!?!?! I'll have what you're having! ShortDust 1 Quote
lanigan123 Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 If Ed continues to improve the dribble drive and can hit a few jumpers he will be a complete 4. Imagine him finishing at the rim after a shot fake? Do em dirty. He finishes so strong at the rim. That is something you can't teach. I think he can be a double double guy. Now, let's go to work and grab Barrett Benson next year. Quote
GATA Posted September 22, 2014 Report Posted September 22, 2014 For some reason I envision Morrow as a Nigel Hayes type. If we can get that kind of early impact, wow. billmann 1 Quote
