Creighton didn't look good at all. Never should have been sniffing the Top 10 but that's how early season polls go. Wisconsin's loss at home to Virginia furthers that point. Creighton likely isn't even the best team in their conference. Wichita State is pretty salty. Creighton has trouble playing defense against anyone remotely good on offense. In particular they cannot defend guards who can create and score on their own. Boise State had a great gameplan that really exposed all of Creighton's flaws, particularly their lack of athleticism. I still don't think we'll beat Creighton as they'll probably shoot the lights out from 3, but I would not be completely shocked if we did. Heck, we sucked last year and we were right with them on their home court until Technical-gate turned a 1 point game into a 6 point game and gave them all the momentum.

According to the most current pomeroy college basketball rankings:

#17: Creighton

#80: Boise State

#199: Nebraska

#220: Wake Forest

Boise State is a good team. Wake Forest is not

BJoe...just curious. Do you like NU at all? You gave us no chance vs Valpo, picked WF to beat us by 22 (then come back and tell us how bad they are). Look, I know some of us are "realistic", but I have yet to see any very positive post from you at all.

Its one thing to think we won't be good, but you always have us getting killed, having no shot, then we do and the other team always "sucks" just because we beat them. Lighten up man.

Bjoe is, indeed, a Husker fan. Some people just expect the worst. Look at all those loons with their bomb shelters.

I've been telling you guys all along that you could take the Jays. Although, I think you failed to mention a possible "Las Vegas Hangover" in your assessment. Although, Boise State just schooled the Jays, hangover or not. Good teams don't let that happen.

You guys beat a BCS team last night and the Jays lost to a mid-major. And we all know that BCS schools are always better than non BCS schools. Heck, I think Creighton will be on a two-game losing streak when they come into Lincoln next week St. Joe's will be tough this Saturday and they're not a BCS school either. And the Huskers will be on a two game winning streak after beating USC (two BCS schools). Jays are on shaky ground.

Let's not get too far ahead of ourselves. We very easily could lose to USC, and Creighton could just as easily rebound with a win over St. Joe's, which I expect they will. Let's not sugarcoat it...NU still only plays 6 scholarship players. One is a true freshman. One a sophomore who has hardly played. One who can't go more than 5 minutes without a breather. NU has their fair share of faults.

For one, this should be moved to college basketball forum. For two, my god people overreact sometimes. We will be sizeable dogs against Creighton. They are far better than we are this year. And that won't change even if we upset them. It is a game of basketball and shooting is dramatic on any given night in a one game situation. Creighton is better than Boise. We are probably better than Kent on our home court. We would often lose to Wake on that court. Lets not overreact folks. And really no need at all to discuss Creighton basketball on the main forum at our Husker Board. That is exactly what moronic Creighton fans like to do here since they don't have such quality boards of their own and for some reason feel very threatened by our program.

Creighton is gonna boatrace us.

We could keep it respectable if Rey can shoot lights out from 3, and Andre and Ubes can stay out of foul trouble. But the percentages are really in the Jays' favor this year. Add to that the fact that perhaps half the folks in Devaney will be wearing blue sweater vests and I'd have to say we'll be doing well to keep the game within 20.

As for Southern Cal, I honestly believe we have a shot. It'll probably be close, but it always is between us and them.

Anything can happen, but I'm not seeing a win vs Creighton this year. Creighton struggles against athletic teams and we really only have 1 guy who I could see drive them fits...and thats Gallegos. And hes hit or miss. Obviously, add in Biggs and the transfers and its probably a different story. Creighton will continue to play crappy defense and live and die by the 3 it appears. They have alot of shooters no doubt, but nobody no guards who can drive and score. They always talk about "getting over the hump" and IMO this method isnt going to get it done. Bad news for them is their recruiting isnt any different. They are recruiting a bunch of shooters who athletically look pretty subpar. They will get their wins this year thanks to a mediocre schedule and they can fill up the basket with 3's if they are on. But if they really want to get to the next step they all love to talk about they need to start recruiting a different type of player. And so far, McDermott isnt doing that. They don't have one athletic guard/forward in their recruiting class, but they can shoot. I like watching Doug play because hes a solid kid and a good basketball player but he seems to be kinda pressing so far this year. Hes putting up his stats still but I feel like watching him it almost appears he thinks he needs to take over games. Boise was doing some pretty simple stuff on offense and they just out athleted Creighton coupled with some pretty bad fundamentals on that end by Creighton. I almost wonder if they are SO much of an offensive minded team that it cripples them on the defensive side of the ball. Guys like Wragge, Dingman, Manigat only really care about one thing...and thats standing behind the three point line and jacking up threes. I would love to have some of their shooters on our roster right now...but I hope Miles can find some shooters, to go along with some athletic guards and bigs who know how to defend down the road.

Horrible defensive team last year. Not sure if they have the intestinal fortitude to improve it enough to be dangerous.

Their defense has alot to be desired, but, believe it or not, it has been better this year. The Broncos also shot lights out last night, also. (I know some of that was poor defense.) But, I would rather lose a game every once in awhile 83-70 than by 50-48. Apparently the fans, according to numbers, also prefer that.

Id much rather just win games....no matter how you have to get them. Like I said in my initial post...Creighton will win plenty of games this year, their style of play is just fine for the Mo Valley especially because as a whole...the Mo Valley doesnt have very many athletic teams. I'm not so sure the Jays defense has improved, despite their wins in Vegas they let a mediocre offensive Wisconsin team score over 70 points and let a kid from ASU go off. Both teams will probably finish middle of the pack in their conference. But, in order for Creighton to get to that next level that I've seen many Creighton fans talk about I don't think they can keep recruiting the same type of players Mcdermott keeps bringing in. He seems to be content on living and dieing by the three ball and hoping to just play average defensively to get the win. You can certainly win games with those type of players but Creighton will continue to play lack luster defense, and get out played by more athletic teams. But, if they are on that night they can stay in the game or even win by shooting the three ball. 2-3 years down the road I'd like to see a roster of Miles players that has some athletic guards/bigs and a couple guys that can shoot the three ball. We will see if he can get it done.

It's not easy to do when you are a Mid-Major or lower level BCS school.

Who do you think you are? Your attack on me was your 23rd post as a member. I am one of the most dedicated Nebraska Basketball fans out there. Since you apparently have a lot of free time to look at all my previous posts, why don't you go back and find some of the positive ones. I am entitled to my opinion just as you are. What do you want me to do? Predict Nebraska to go 32-0? Get your facts straight then come back and say something. And don't tell me to "lighten up man."

That's probably true. It just seems McDermott is focued on recruiting shooters first....and that's not a terrible thing. But the Jays seem to want to fill up their whole roster with them. I know Jays fans were counting on Nevin Johnson(???)...not sure if thats his last name...to provide some athleticism and defense this year and the next few....but from the limited amount of time I saw him in the summer league I was not very impressed. I think the series will start getting interesting once again next year with what NU will add and return. I think the Jays get them this year(probably by 10 or more)...and next year at home. After that it will be interesting to see where the two teams are at.

I look forward to the day when the series starts getting interesting, again. Not just that one game, but the season as a whole, for both teams. It will be great when both teams are competitive (NCAA tournament teams) in their respective leagues..The Jays number one objective HAS to be winning the Valley first. Then whatever else falls in place makes it more interesting. I hope Miles gets the Huskers to the same point.
