Section_316 Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 We played 90% man in the first half with occasional zone mixed in. We started the second half in zone and they scored 6 points on 3 possessions. We went man to man and really locked in, including back to back shot clock violations and than I think in an attempt to save legs/fouls (Petteway/Tai) we went back to zone with like 8 minutes left and rode it to the finish line…. (went man and switched everything last 3-4 trips) Quote
hhcmatt Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 I think he needs to go in any time a team is purposely sagging off of players. It looked like Indiana gameplanned that you only cover certain players beyond the arc and otherwise guard the lane. They didn't know who Hawkins was so they didn't guard him. That's when you make them pay. Shuttlesworth 1 Quote
roscoe Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 Thought Hawkins played timid at first but he probably didn't want to make a mistake go back to the bench. After relaxing a little it appeared he knew to keep moving the ball for his team mates. Quote
bball23 Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 Miles had some high praise for Hawkins after the game. He said something to the degree that NU fans are really going to like him. Is a smart bball player, passes the ball well, and notices the open shooter. Once he gets more confidence he can shoot the ball well too. Plus he has good size/length. I was happy for him last night. Especially hitting that big 3! What a fun game though! Quote
Huskerpapa Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 There appears to be a favorable pattern that is emerging with this team. Practice is important and game execution is a must. Coach Miles talks about it often, and Rivers and Hawkins are good examples. I am happy that both of these players have earned their ways back into the rotation. Quote

throwback Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 Even though he passed up that shot a couple of times, it was great to see him set himself up to shoot after making the pass, so he was ready to shoot off the return pass with good rhythm. Stepped up with a lot of confidence on that shot. I was thinking we might need to recruit another couple of shooters for next season with Gallegos gone, but they may already be here in Hawk and Fuller Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 Wait I thought Hawkins was transferring back home to be closer to his girl friend. So how can he be good for us next year as a large athletic 2/3? I can't all these rumors straight. Quote
kldm64 Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 I really believe that Nate will start for us next year. It's possible but with 4 of our 5 starters returning next year, it will be very difficult for him to break into the starting lineup. My guess is that Hammond will start to give us a post presence but that's not to say he won't get significant minutes. Quote
bobcat402 Posted January 31, 2014 Report Posted January 31, 2014 i loved nate last night, he did so many great little things, that first shot he passed maybe wasn't in his rythm, so he kicked out got it back in a better rhythm and fired, they way he spaced the court, pulled the ball back when their was a lack of numbers. im going to like the future of Petteway, Webster, Shields, Pitch, Hawk, and Fuller Quote

Should be a fun time to be a Husker Hoops fan in the coming years! Quote
