Mr. Miles

Let me start this with my love for husker basketball. 

 

In the fall of 2007 I really got into husker basketball. I moved back to Lincoln after being in the army and being deployed for too damn long. I figured I'd get season tickets as I didn't want to be a person that complained of "nothing to do" in Lincoln. I was hooked and still am to this day. 

 

Anyways I got hooked and had season tickets until 2012 when I moved out of Lincoln. I liked Miles from the time we hired him.

 

I went to the game today and the PBA and loved the new arena and everything.

 

However, as a veteran, Tim Miles earned my respect because during the National Anthem He stood with his hand over his heart and his left hand at his side. I'm not sure if he was around the military or is just sharp enough to realize  what in means when they say stand at attention. I'm not sure why this didn't catch my eye last year. 

 

I know not everyone will be as respectful as I would like but I honestly would be happy if people would just take off their caps and not look at their smartphone during the thing. 

 

I guess I'm ranting now.

 

But, the head coach is a MAN in my book no matter how you cut it.

Careful, dt14, I made a comment a couple of seasons ago about wishing the players would show respect and put their hands over their hearts and some people on here took a little exception to the suggestion.  Didn't like the idea of me saying anyone ought to put their hands over their hearts during the anthem, players or otherwise.  So, I guess we'll see what kind of reaction you get.

Totally agree! He also seems to make sure the players are respectful. I liked Doc but the one thing that drove me nuts was how his players acted like the anthem wasn't important. I remember them playing Indiana a couple years ago and Crean made sure his players stood tall and showed respect while ours were slumped over and looking at their shoes. To me it showed a lack of discipline and respect. Thank you for your service!

I get your point about the anthem and wish the announcer would ask people to turn off their phones as well as remove their hats when the anthem is played. Otherwise I am ok with whatever other people do to respect our anthem before games as long as they stand up and don't talk. Someone behind me belting out a heartfelt but off key rendition of the words is just as distracting to me. Maybe it is just because I spent my seven years in the military during the Viet Nam era when we were told not to wear our uniforms on city streets because it might lead to confrontations with civilians. I'm unsure of what you might have posted in the past, but commending someone for how they stand during the anthem isn't the same thing as recommending how they stand during the anthem.

I do believe you deserve my thanks for those tough years . I can't imagine what that was like especially the homecoming or lack of. You also have all the right in the world to tell that person behind you to shut the hell up.
