FredsSlacks Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 Miles seems to be really good at finding talented freshman who aren't working out at their school. Do you think we can afford to let a guy sit out and bring in a Petteway/PItchford type of transfer? I would say yes considering our expectations for 2013 probably are not going to be much greater than 2012. 2014 is where we have to put a contender on the court. Quote
Norm Peterson Posted March 31, 2013 Report Posted March 31, 2013 I'd say better than 1 in a million. Quote

I would think it is a possibility, but I think the most advantageous road to take would be to take a grad transfer at the Center/Power Forward spot. This works out best for all parties. The player gets to play right away without sitting like a transfer would. Nebraska gets a player at a position of need that has years of Division 1 experience and it is only a 1 year scholarship, so it opens up another spot for Nebraska's 2014 class. Quote

TheKamdyMan Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 though he's a guard freshman SG Rodney Purvis announced he's leaving NC State. He was a 5* player last year. Unlike our other transfers we got last year, he averaged 25 mpg and 8 ppg. Would be a whale. Quote

Coming out of high school, Rivals had him listed as a 5-Star, #4 SG in the country, #12 overall prospect in the 2012 class. He is listed at 6'4", 195 lbs. http://rivals.yahoo.com/ncstate/basketball/recruiting/player-Rodney-Purvis-105796 Quote
TheKamdyMan Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 yeah hes got a lot of schools he cant transfer to due to conference realignment and future opponents so there's a chance. Quote
hskr4life Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 Similar to Shabazz and Archie Goodwin... would be awesome, and we can not pass on him if he wants to come, but what if Sai commits too? Time to pull the trigger on someone already on the roster? Quote
Nebrasketballer Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 Here is some Rodney Purvis highlights (multiple seasons of highlights): http://ncstate.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1356206 His junior and senior highlights on the second half of the video are pretty sick. Quote

Nebrasketballer Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 It will never happen, but Purvis is the caliber of player that is good enough that if he came to Nebraska, he could put the team on his back and get them to the NCAA tournament right away and probably even win a game for them when they get there. He would be a program changer. Quote
GATA Posted April 1, 2013 Report Posted April 1, 2013 Pulled from the AP story... The school has granted Purvis a release to transfer to any school outside the Atlantic Coast Conference except Missouri and Cincinnati, which the program plans to add to its nonconference schedule. The ACC ban includes eventual new arrivals Syracuse, Pittsburgh, Notre Dame and Louisville. Quote

Well, if we can't parlay THAT into a commit from him, then I really have to throw out some red flags about our coaches' recruiting abilities. Quote

Nebrasketballer Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 I touched on this in another thread, but I thought this might be a better place to post this. With the coaching change at Minnesota, and Nebraska's desperate need for big men in the paint, what are the chances that a guy like Elliott Eliason could get released from scholarship at Minnesota, if Miles wanted to add him to Nebraska's roster? Does a player have to sit out a season if he transfers when there is a coaching change at his current school? Elliott Eliason, RS Soph, 6'11", 260 lbs, from Chadron, NE Also, would there be a better chance of him being allowed to transfer and stay within the B1G conference, if he were going to a place closer to home, within his home state of Nebraska? Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Even if he is released, wouldn't he have to sit for two years and he has already red shirted? Plus in might be hard to play for a fan base that has yelled "you suck traitor" at you for 2 years. Quote

Norm Peterson Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Eliason has an issue if he wants to transfer because he already sat out a year as a redshirt. Now, if there was some medical issue with his mom or something, I believe he could get a waiver to move closer. Aaaaaand, we are closer. P.S. I'm no expert (nor an insider) but I believe Pitchford looked into that waiver issue last year because of the health of one of his parents and it would have allowed him to be immediately eligible. He ended up choosing not to do it. P.P.S. While I'm praying for the health of Eliott's parents, if they happened to get foot bunions and needed occasional treatment in Lincoln, I wouldn't be opposed if Eliott wanted to try to gain that waiver. P.P.P.S. OR if they just think they MIGHT be getting foot bunions. Quote
Swan88 Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Or . . . a player can transfer from one B1G team to another B1G team, even without a coaching change, if his name is Uthoff and he makes a really big fuss about how unfair transfer restrictions might be and makes his former coach (at Wisconsin) look like an unreasonable jerk -- which then allows him to transfer to Iowa with everyone's blessing. Just gotta know how to work the PR machinery. Quote
Silverbacked1 Posted April 2, 2013 Report Posted April 2, 2013 Hang nails- everybody gets them- but they can get bad if left alone. Oh wait no PAPER CUT. Any where else and its just 1 year of eligibility. Quote
