Nebraska (3-3) vs. Grand Canyon (5-2) Series Game Thread

Shows what I know 😂 - helluva win and that's an understatement - to take down their ace and to have Christo put that performance out there is beyond unexpected. This is the Christo we've been waiting for, and he picked the perfect time to do it. Sets the tone for the entire series.

It wouldn't shock me if Childress decided to put Christo up against GCU's ace as a challenge to him, showing him just how good he can be, as long as he trusts himself and challenges hitters. Whatever they did to get him going tonight was the perfect choice, and you could just feel his confidence growing with every inning. Considering what had been going on with him over the past several weeks in workouts, this was simply amazing.

Too many Ks on offense again, but we made up for it with clutch hitting. Defense was nails again. Time to get greedy and get at least 2 wins more now.

The GCU ESPN+ broadcast team acknowledged the steady Husker fans, and hoped they would be back for the next 3 games. I thought that was pretty cool to mention.

Be back?  There may be even more as weather looks to be awesome and that was a Thursday night game!

While we had a lot of K’s, I liked our aggressive swinging approach better last night.

One thing I noticed our pitchers doing so far this year is attacking the zone.  Daring other teams to hit us.  I like it.  There may be a game or two where we just give up a whole host of hits, but at least they aren’t walks.  MAKE THEM HIT IT TO BEAT US.

This is all Childress - work fast & attack the zone. Trust your stuff. Trust your defense. Let me call the game and focus on executing your pitches. There's no time for overthinking it and other nonsense, whether it's in practice, warming up in the bullpen, or with in-game situations. When it's time to work, we're going to work.

It's paying dividends so far with most of the guys we're putting on the bump - newcomers and, after last night, veterans alike.

And it doesn't hurt when you can teach kids how to throw the slider like almost no one else in the country. 😁

And I'm not trying to disparage what Christy did last year - what he did worked for some guys. Overall and staff-wide, though, it's just different with Childress in charge.

Yeah— I’m not surprised that we usually get our pick of early season series down south.  Anyone would take the revenue Husker Nation brings for baseball (and all non-money making sports).  We just travel so well.

Cool to hear an opposing broadcast team praise Husker Nation, basically that's it. And, Phoenix is rather notorious for having A LOT of Husker fans already living there.
