royalfan Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 Just want to remind everyone that we are going to go through our fair share of dastardly scoring droughts. It is going to be very ugly at times, especially with the great defensive coaching in the Big 10. These guys don't deserve too much bitching and moaning when it happens. They are battling their asses off. Let's appreciate them for what they are as much as possible. Expectations might be a bit unrealistic after a great performance. We are probably going to get beat 70-45 a time or two. As long as they keep trying it is extremely refreshing compared to what has transpired the last couple of years. I expected Hoiberg to take a defensive approach this year, and I was unsure how well he would be able to coach that style. He is battling his ass off as well. Let's stick with them through the trials and tribulations and see what happens. HuscurAdam and Silverbacked1 1 1 Quote
Huskerpapa Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 Without mentioning names, we have a few defensive liabilities on the floor. That said, we are schematically hiding those liabilities pretty well. Over the past couple years, we had a portion of the players working hard on defense; but a couple players would be lazy and easy baskets would be given up. Point being, our defensive scheme appears to be our biggest improvement along with basketball IQ and effort. Our offense is still a bit offensive yet. What is positive is that we have a number of players who can score. If we can work the ball to the hot hand, I hope we consistently score in the 65 to 75 point range. Quote
uneblinstu Posted December 7, 2022 Report Posted December 7, 2022 The other adjustment they've made is to slow way down. According to Kenpom, this year's is exactly as efficient as last year's. The offense was horrific the first month or so of the season then really pick things up. Hopefully that happens again. But last year, they were top 20 in tempo. This year, they're 291. Creighton made adjustments to take Tominaga and Wilcher out of he game. Walker and Griesel made them pay big time. I'd expect future teams to adjust to try to slow down SG and DW. That should open up things for the shooters again. It'll be up to them to knock down those opportunities. We're not going to do this with a regular guy who makes dynamic plays for himself. Walker will probably be the closest thing we have to a steady scorer, but he's not going to create his own offense like Bryce did last year. It's going to be by committee. Jacob Padilla Posted December 19, 2022 Report Posted December 19, 2022 Forgot to share this, and I don't want to start up a new thread just for a link, so I'll put this here. Tominaga had a rough day against Kansas State (as did almost everyone else) but what he's done so far this year has been quite impressive. I broke down how he was shooting 50-43-100 heading itno Saturday's game.https://hailvarsity.com/basketball/nebrasketball-film-study-keisei-tominaga-second-season-leap/ Art Vandalay, HuscurAdam, thrasher31 and 3 others 4 2 Quote
