Why can't we have nice things in any of the sports I cheer for.  What a joke this is all turning out to be.  Surprised we made it to the R16 with all of the crap that was going on.

It's just sooooo bad. Like really? REALLY!?!

MLS schedules opening weekend in February and then acts surprised that there's snow.  SKC@Timbers now happening on Monday night rather than tomorrow.

Not completely surprising.  I also saw our home opener was scheduled for 7 PM.  BRRRRRR

It appears Sporting has filled the gaping Kortne Ford sized hole in the backline.  We were fresh out of right-footed center backs, but found one in his prime with lots of experience.  Never heard of this guy before but that's true of most of our international signings (excluding Pulido).

Hopefully he can join the team quickly.  Whatever procedural delays kept Thommy and Agada from being able to get their green cards last summer ultimately kept us out of the playoffs.  Would really be awful to see that happen again, especially since the team looks highly competitive at the other 10 positions on the pitch.  Need to get him to KC ASAP

It broke. They did nothing special. Last goal had 5 defenders guarding 3 and our FB was ball watching, had no idea what was behind him. That’s a U12 mistake. Pulisic and especially Wight missed sitters.

Out managed. They knew we would struggle in possession to break them down so they allowed us to have the ball and hit on the counter. While our manager finally put Aaronson and Reyna on the field together but knows so little about his own team that he had them each playing the other’s position compared to what they do for their clubs?

Need a 9 badly. Google Flo Balogun. He’s the obvious answer. Throw the kitchen sink at him to convince him to play for the US and remind him Harry Kane ain’t going anywhere.

Have seen reports that Balogun might be Orlando currently.  He was not invited to England camp and dropped out of ther U21 camp I believe.  Will be interesting to see how the boys do this next week back on the pitch together after that R16 exit in Qatar.

Also, SKC has stunk so far this year, so there's that.

It's 100% confirmed that he is in Orlando.  The Magic gave him a custom #9 jersey before their game last night.

Word is that he's been in talks with the USMNT.  Unknown whether he'll join camp, but probably not.

Boys look really solid tonight.  I know it's just Grenada.

I remain cautiously optimistic about this team's chances of making a run in the playoffs.  We may be the biggest beneficiaries of the expanded playoff format, as I expect our team to steadily improve as the season progresses and we finally start seeing healthy first-teamers on the pitch.  Offensively, I think our biggest problem is that we only have three ways of creating chances:

1. Cross from wide left (Salloi, Thommy, or Sweat)

2. Shot from distance and pray the keeper spills it in front of one of our attacking players

3. Cross from Zusi

That's really it.  As much as Thommy looks good taking a defender 1v1 off the dribble, he hasn't been able to break down a secondary or tertiary defender like Russell can.  He also hasn't been able to find a runner in the space that has been vacated by the helping defender.

Salloi is still himself.  He can do some marvelous things when surrounded by more talented players, but clearly is not "the man" nor do I expect him to be.  Great complementary piece, terrible centerpiece.

Agada requires good service, but also doesn't have the height and jumping ability to put a head on those crosses being snapped in from out wide.  He's more of a poacher, and needs spilled shots and Russell-esque touch passes in the box to be effective.

We know who Shelton is.  We know who Roger is.  Walter is having to play too deep to be expected to contribute to the offense.

And that's it, all of our current forwards and mids.  The way we are playing requires a striker like Pulido on the pitch.  Agada needs players like Johnny around him.  Kinda could unlock that attacking run from the middle of the pitch, like we used to get from Feilhaber.  But we are seeing just how limited our offense is with Pulido, Russell, and Kinda out.  and it is very very ugly.  Throw in Ben Sweat-gifted goals for the other team (4 on the year, by my count) and it's no surprise that we are bottom of the table.

Any body watching the US vs EL SALVADOR game.?

We just a a flurry in front of the El Salvadoran goal.  Defender from El gets hit square in the chest with the ball (saves the goal) goes totally ridged and falls to the ground. Looks dead.  Then jumps up to head away an own goal shot and again goes completely stiff on the ground.  Looks dead again.  It was hilarious.

It didn't happen to be this guy, was it?

I must admit that I actually get pretty excited for US Open Cup.  Just something about the David vs Goliath aspect that is a lot of fun.

Would've been nice for SKC to take care of business quicker against a far lesser foe, but in this season any win is a good win.  Also good to see a bit of Ethan Bryant on the pitch, who looks to be a promising young player in the midfield.

On the other end of the spectrum, Union Omaha won't be replicating last year's US Open Cup magic.  Complete drubbing in St Louis.

We finally put the ball in the net.  Good things happen when you can do that.  Ha!

Did you see the match?  Not to rain on the parade, but of those three goals only 1 would've gone in against an average MLS keeper.  Maybe none of them.  It was another 30+ shot performance with nearly all of those shots ending up off target or straight at the keeper's chest.  We dominated possession as expected against a semi-pro side, which created tons of shot chances.  But the issue remains that no one seems to be able to put shots on frame that make the keeper actually move his feet.  Hopefully seeing a few go in the back of the net will be a confidence boost though.

I did watch a little bit.  While the goals weren’t anything spectacular, they were much needed for confidence as you mentioned.

For a team with the season we’re having, playing in these types of games can only help for the most part.

It was definitely helpful as a way of getting a bit of mojo back, as well as getting Kinda back on the pitch in a low risk situation.  Was happy to see Vermes start his A Team in this match, even though at face value that seemed like overkill.
