If we can find a starter, use it for this year.

If we can't find an immediately eligible starter, but can find a top 100 kid to sit out a year, any position, use it for the transfer.

If we can only find a late-available non-elite incoming freshman, save it for 2017.

But only use it for this year, at this point, if we can find a guy to come in and start right off the bat somewhere in our lineup.

Otherwise, I'm comfortable with who we have.

I don't actually have a problem taking a risk on a freshmen because it's not like guys stay and clog up scholarships anymore.

People transfer out pretty quickly if they don't get playing time.

We have 1 scholarship for next year, 2 for 2017-18 ATM.

We're probably looking at a post player and a guard for 2017-18. Given how hard it is to land a post player, we should look for the post player this year and be prepared to eat the scholarship again while assuming that next year is a NCAA tourney team that gives us a recruiting push. The caveat is if you can grab a top 100 type player like Matthews.

The big man grad transfer list is fairly sketchy. If you think of our scholarship in terms of eating it for this year, even grabbing a good post player who sits for a year and has 1-2 years left seems like a good investment.

Good investment for 1-2 years?

The title made me spend the last hour listening to one of my favorite albums!

An all time album for sure!

Now, if you just would use your old avatar or somebody like her. I'd be out of my brain.

I think the transfer is someone who's season isn't over yet. At least that's what my source is telling me.

Expand please I must be too dumb. Season not over? As in playing another sport?

Just used the line that is used when we were discussing transfers in the other thread. Nothing but a joke that appears it was bad.

Lol...I was wondering if there was a 7 foot tall baseball player on the Huskers team that might make the jump to basketball. We've had huskers football players. Have we ever had a husker Baseball player on the team?

My first college rommate, Adrian Fialla, was a catcher and a linebacker in the later 60's.

Coach Erstead played a little baseball and was the punter on the 94 team.

Those are the 2 that immediately come to my mind.

yes...but when did they play basketball.  We have had Football players transition to Basketball...and looking and yours...we have had football/Baseball crossovers.  I was talking Baseball to Basketball.  :)

Maybe some in the pre-WWII era? Some of those guys played 3 sports I'm sure.

Can't really think of an NU baseball player in the last few decades who would've been able to contribute in hoops, but Strickland could've gone from basketball to baseball at the D-1 level successfully.

Well I screwed up your question with the wrong answer...just like the following interesting cross over but I can't find going to basketball in my brain.  I see Mark Mauer played quarterback in the early 80's and used his senior year, after football eligibility was used up, to play catcher in 1982. No basketball help.

Ike Mahoney.  I don't believe he was a Husker, but he was one of the most gifted athletes to come out of Omaha.  He played three years for the Chicago Cardinals in the NFL. George Halas signed him to play pro basketball for his Chicago Bruins. The Pittsburgh Pirates also signed him, although he never made it past the minors.

But the man was Bob Gibson.  I despise the Cardinals, and obviously he was a HOF pitcher for those guys.  He also performed for the other Nebraska team...Creighton.  But believe it or not, he was a Harlem Globetrotter.
