Question: Will Connie be leaning toward another big, or maybe a shooting forward, since now we've got 3 guard commits for 2016? (Eliyla might be considered a forward) ......that's assuming Yori will take 4 - 2016 commits. The Arkansas guard Jackson is good one for sure.

Looks like the entire squad will be ready to go ! Cooper was a 5 star rated quard out of Indiana. Losing her will sure hurt ! Purdue had a real good redruiting class, the new 3 other recruits staying are excellent anyway.

Believe me Dlrrk we noticed the "young guns" during NUs trip to aussie land. The fans here definately took notice of the teams games and performances....let alone the wonderful trip. Ms Blackburn, Simon and redshirt Ms Washington...were very evident in their contributions. It was great to see them get started on the right foot. Wins or not....really didn't matter. Just as Yoru said...the playing experience puts the team well ahead of last years progress. These three will be a lot of the nucleus of the team for several years to come, let alone this fall. They're off to a great start ! Any good words of wisdom from the 43 after her trip?

He'll have to find another line of work.......after some time living with a few gentle fellows in the big house.

The make up our team should be much different than last year. The good start by the freshman ..... and the add of Clark and Ostrander...makes for a real interesting mix. We played most of our freshmen last year not totally healthy, and they missed things early....but we had to use them. Will Yori stay with what was essentially 3 guards like last year, or go to a post and 2 forwards, and 2 guards? The potential's there for either set up...(or a mix of both at times....if she can coach that senerio) Also we probably can press more, with a deeper guard presence. Two straight years of outstanding recruiting classes will start to show this year...even after losing a couple commits. If all things are in place by the regular season I agree with whoopdeedo on starters... Shepard, Havers, Rachel T, Jazz, and Romero No doubt we'll have a much better bench that last year.....many will play alot...at least I hope so.
-
Yes, everyone currently playing seems to be OK, (except Esther)....and the others healing from surgerys apparently are doing that too. Rachel T and Clark are playing (lightly) in practice..... they and Shepard are riding stationary bikes, so quite possibly everyone may be ready by the exibition season....still months away. A lot can, and will, change by then

Check out all the different series of pictures. The snorkeling makes me want to go back to Hawaii and snorkel again...love the Ocean. And..... the determination on the game faces of the Huskers. Some improvement shown in the stats...more balanced scoring...balanced and tough rebounding.. about doubling the opponent 50-32. Freshmen Blackburn and Simon both seem to be really getting up to speed. Havers is stepping up a notch or two. Jazz played very well. Nice 3 shooting from Romeo....plus more good stuff from others. "Allie Havers, a 6-5 junior center from Mattawan, Mich., pitched in 14 points and eight rebounds, while freshman forward Rachel Blackburn rounded out the Huskers in double figures with 10 points, seven rebounds and three assists." "Freshman Maddie Simon contributed six points and five rebounds, while redshirt freshman Darrien Washington managed five points and a game-high 12 rebounds"
-
We'll also have 6-3 Ostrander in the post...for rebounding more than likely. I understand she was practicing with basketball team before they left for Australia. (as well as practicing with the volleyball team) I see she was just named as co captian of the volleyball team.

This Aussy trip is obviously doing some good and important things..... Getting a head start and real game experience for the freshmen. (Plus the summer workouts before the trip.) They'll be in a better place come the exibition season, just because of this summer. (better start than a freshman on another B1G team) Sheppard's the exception to most everything. If she's (like any player) healthy....she will be a factor very soon. Freshman "stuff" dosen't apply in her case. Another of my optimistic predictions.....she'll start... at least... by the beginning of the regular season. Another LJS article on first game: http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/womens-basketball/women-s-hoops-romeo-scores-but-huskers-drop-australian-opener/article_3f9d32d5-68ab-55c8-b875-c6e9770984fe.html "Freshmen posts Rachel Blackburn (nine points, nine rebounds) and Darrien Washington (seven points, 10 rebounds, two blocks) added presence inside."
-
Yes, not sure who will start, but we will be a lot deeper, and stronger in the front court. The addition of Sheppard, Blackburn and Washington will really change things for us.....adds lots more scoring potential, let alone rebounding .....last year we couldn't let Cady take a break much....wore her out lots of games. The key to even greater success could be at the guard/wing positions. Rachel T and Romeo...and Clark? ...(all scorers) ....could be a very good combo...plus Jazz, Maddie, and more. Premature (and optimistic)...yea..... but we might just well be stronger and more complete than last year.
-
Really need to get Rachel T and Clark on the floor. That should change the backcourt picture. We were real thin last year with all the freshmen...then losing Rachet T And ....we lost the two better recruits in what was an excellent class.. both backcourt players....has to hurt.

News article from OWH - Maddie - Austrailia http://www.omaha.com/huskers/husker-women-s-basketball-trip-to-australia-to-provide-opportunities/article_d3bd1862-2d2a-52d9-97b7-2a124f69ae01.html

Will the saga ever end ?
-
My guess.....to start season If healthy... Jess and Rachel T (Jess is doing some limited on the floor stuff now...don't about R.T., or Clark) and these Havers Natalie Romero Jasmine Cincore The currently healthy list for Austrialia Havers Natalie Romero Jasmine Cincore Washington Esther Austrailia: We'll probably see a lot of action from the newbies..... Rachel B & Maddie. Clark fits in if healthy (anyone know her status?), as well as Esther, Emily, & Anya. There's still a lot of time until exibition....Nov 1 ...3 months time for more healing. The the lineup would be wide open. Just hope Jess, Rachel T., & Clark are ready. Then add Ostrander. Get all those 4 in play...and we'll be real deep and a different team from the Australia squad. Better depth than the last few years, both in the paint, and at guard.

Didn't take long...must have been looking at her options for a while this summer, as she should have if she was ready to change. Good luck to her, and hope all goes well for her. She will be a huge help to Gonzaga.
-
Don't mean to repeat everyones elses thoughts.....but.... Yes....very high potential....really too bad she's leaving. Will always wonder if she'd had a better (and injury free) first year...she may have stayed. Good luck to her in the future. Seemed to be a great young lady. Dang !

5 State Hoops recently updated class of 2016 recruits...
redsteve replied to whoopdeedoo's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
Anyone know if we're looking at anybody on the list? -
Just hire the right assistant coach and all would be OK
-
Kind of saw her last years progress as an uphill grind, because of the injuries. Unfortunately she missed maybe a third the season, and importantly lots early freshman practices that would have gotten her started the right way. Wouldn't be a bit surprised to see her really take off this year. She just seems to need one or two positive things happen, and she will relax.... and just play. Even last years playing time should make a huge difference as we move along this year. She has the lots of the necessary skills.....she will excel this year.
-
diirk...do you know the Austrialian schedule? When they leave and get back? It should be a great experience for Rachel...getting to see that part of the world....let alone playing internationally with her new NU team.
-
Dirrk.... is there a chance you might know #43 in the pix ? She looks to be an awesome add to the team. How's she liking her new environment at NU and the Bball team ? We're sure excited to see her here !
-
Add in Havers and our play in the paint should be much stronger overall, with much more depth. Some are young, but the nucleous is sure there. Let the fun begin

That's an early Cocker "Letter" video....he passed away recently.......a 60s and 70s legend that had along carrer.
