So what's the story on her leaving NU ?

Ohio State NW Rutgers Purdue Minnesota Iowa Nebraska ---- why not Ohio State Maryland

Why would Kalenta leave? She only has one year left. She should be an important contributor next year. No guarantee that Shephard will be ready at the start of next season and we don't know how Washington has developed as a redshirt. Kalenta was a 40% three shooter in JC, and she's shooting 3s higher than 50% now, but rides the bench ? The young kids stayed right in the middle of the fight tonight...and it looked like they were up for it...very competitive kids. Bids well for them later on.

One has to wonder what game the refs see that we don't. Fouls get called and we win the game. We got beat up litteraly...
-
They're a little like us in that they do use their bench....maybe a bit more than we do so far. One thing I've noticed is they foul quite a bit....the whole team. This could be a game that gets won by the free throws. And some fouling out...like a game or two ago. Maybe they will get into foul trouble ? We'll have to keep our composer, and bring our A game. I like our chances.

Auburn news..... brawler dismissed Auburn coach Terri Williams-Flournoy has dismissed senior forward Hasina Muhammad from the team. Muhammad had been scheduled to return Sunday after serving a two-game suspension for fighting with Alabama's Breanna Hayden during a game. But Williams-Flournoy cited violation of unspecified team rules for the decision, saying Tigers "student-athletes have to be held accountable for the choices they make." Auburn announced the dismissal just before Auburn played at No. 12 Texas A&M.

Don't claim to be in the know on Jess....but you could say she is a bit like Cady and Sample combined...offensively. But probably has better moves with the ball.....can drive to basket from clear out by the 3 arc, and can shoot 3s too. She'll probably be one the better overall bigs we've ever had. Has a complete offensive game. She's not shy about mixing it up. High bball IQ And Jess can run the floor too. What can be said, but... size with skills. Watching her play on the USA team, she was a scorer there too. The coach had her playing a little out of her normal position, but she caught on quickly. It will be real enjoyable to watch...hope she heals up, and can get in shape before next fall. Playing defense will be the biggest challenge for her....just the constant and quicker speed of the game. Watch for her getting double teamed right away.

The obvious elephant in the room is next year. Havers will be back with two years experience. And of course...Jess...but she will take some time to get into B1G playing shape, and learn the system. Washington will be a new RS inside. Blackburn may well enter the picture. The "system" next year will probably be different....haven't really thought it out...but we'll be different looking team. We should be fairly deep in the guard/wing positions, with Rachel leading the troops

You're right about Brandi, Row 6. Only played 16 minutes, and she clearly isn't herself. Hope she can return to full speed in this her senior season. She had been having such a good year. And I agree on Natalie's cross-over. Total ankle-breaker. She can play fast with the ball; gotta like that. That will be huge next year....having some speed. We've got some height coming in next year, but no speedster. But Jazz will probably offset some of that too. Don't you suppose Yori will try to find another quick guard since we've lost a couple schoolies?

Not completely off base..... Not just Rachel.....we at times have looked tired. And sure it hurts about every phase of a players game. Yesterday playing Mich. they seemed to have more energy...especially in the second half...obviously. I think Rachel played 40 min.....she's got to get rest. She may seem like Super women...but with Romeo and Smith getting up to speed, give Rachel a couple of breaks. Easy to say.....we've got some tough games ahead on the road.
-
Hailies's shooting percentage is very high (maybe the team best?), from all the inside shots...but she's better at getting in position to make some offense happen. She and Cady are working together real well in the paint.

Power's been out since about 8:00 this morning......just came back on...NET1... with about 4 min. to go. ...NU wins ! I had an old portable radio, but batteries ran out at the half. Ne was behind.......so what happened in the second half? Must have really turned it around. At the end of the game there was an ad for a recruiting show Thurs at 7...NET1...womens?

Havers put in excelent minutes, both on defense, and offense. Scored well, got rebounds, and again, was successful agravating the bigs inside. Driving to the basket dosen't seem to be part of her game.....is it by design? Turnovers drove me crazy. But we were determined and slowly (very) we caught up. IL fouls finally worked in our favor. They had to back off in the second half, and that kind of opened the door. Rachel is in a funk.....no doubt, but she'll overcome it. Il has some good players....if they get a little deeper they'll be even tougher. Our bench (verses theirs) was the difference....finally....and it was good to see.

Some may disagree, but I think we were out coached. To Iowa give credit ....they had a bench they had developed, and used them. That was the difference. They were focused, and played aggressivly...maybe a bit over agressive, but it worked for them. They ran us out of gas....intentionally. Three of their bench players, played over 10 min. each. ...and contributed. The lazy passes killed us in the second half. That was a big deal...may have cost us the game. Right at the time when we needed to focus....we let ourselves down. Sorry, and may offend some......Our bench has been weak, (and/or under utilzed) for a couple of years. That's on the staff...recruiting, coaching..... what ever, whichever. I see Iowa already has 4 - 4* recruits for 2016. We....none. Are we behind the recruting curve?...even with a couple of good classes? Did we play our hearts out...yes...without a doubt. Were we fouled a lot, and pushed around...yes. Was Rachel's block a foul...no. But we just had very little in the tank, in the second half. We got outran, out focused, and out gunned. All of our losses have been like that in the second half. Other defense's have figured out how to defend against us. Shut down Rachel & Cady to some extent...even slow them down....and it will effect us a lot. (We do the same thing to other teams, and did in the first half of this game...but couldn't keep it up) In some ways the loss exposed our weaknesses. Which is OK if we solve some of those problems. We all keep saying it...get the bench more involved, and give the starters more rest. If we can't solve the problem....it's going to be a long year. I just hate it for our girls.... they gave it everything they had.
-
This will be a tough one. The bench will have to step up, and play in all phases. Scoring, rebounding, no turnovers, ...you name it. We can't let our starters run out of gas...but I'm sure they'll be up for it. They'll need to go hard every minute of the game. The fact that we've had multiple players scoring well (3s)...should help make the Iowa defense play more straight up.....but they still may have a shadow for Rachel. The inside could be a little more open if Iowa is defending the 3 I'm pickin the Big Red

BRAWL !! .......It's a left....an upper cut to the face,,,,,,,,and a right to the jaw......opps that was the ref's jaw I would toss the three of them off their team(s), for several games, or the balance of the season. If the school dosen't do it the SEC should get involved....Na...the SEC.....nope Great pix by the way

Shootin the eyes out of the basket !

Might be a little like the Purdue game...not a easy one, we'll have to be ready, but some of the bench could well get some chances. We're healthy now...maybe Cincore will get some floor time. It might be her turn. Want to see more of what she can do......has good quickness from what little I've seen her play. Wisky has some size inside like Purdue.....we've been able to be competitive in the paint for the most part. Maybe Kalenta?
-
I quess this is where I'd hope we would be.....getting the newbies involved. (maybe a little sooner probably...but...) Just seemed like the skills they all demonstrated, before coming here...would come into play......litterly. Too bad we (they) lost about half the season because of all the issues. This is the nice problem I thought would happen...to Yori. Getting them on the floor. Most seem to be able to shoot and score...that may be one of the nice surprises....if you can call it a surprise. Maybe the last couple of games....we are seeing there is depth on the bench that can contribute. We just couldn't score effectivly for the first few games of the B1G....now we're getting on a roll. It seemed Havers defensive play in the paint these days may be intentional...maybe that's the roll Yori wants Havers to play......tough play in the paint, ....harrass the othe post players to the extent they foul a lot....Penn States big girl foulded out after wrestling with Havers through out the game. Purdue gilrs also were called for some fouls with Havers. Havers made their bigs works for every rebound/point. Just an observation.......
