  1. They would have have Chandler Smith at Point also.I don't know if the Cincore girl would be a point guard or not. Agree.....Looking beyond next year, and when Theriot leaves, we may be short a point guard for the future. So maybe an emphasis on PG in the 2016 & 2017 classes, for the future. (beyond Romeo & ?) It will depend on how Romeo and Smith progress, plus any other guard we have, that could run the point. Both have to learn the position, and remain healthy. It sure would be nice to have two capable PG's all the time. It gives us way more flexibility. Numbers: We lose 2 guards and 2 forwards next year, and a PG and F the year after that, so maybe we can use another F or C this 2015 class? (there's one F (wing) and one C in the 2014 class) It might depend on who else might want to come this year......could take an excellent guard too, for what may be the last commit for 2015? I see 5 max. taken this year. This is not to mention any attrition that happens almost every year, which can change things in a hurry. Yori has turned the corner to a higher level as a Top 15 team. If she can continue to have 23-25+ win teams, get into the NCAA's..... the recruiting will continue to be very good, like the last couple of years.
  2. Thanks dlrrk for your information and input to this board........and another husker player, soon to be in a red uniform. I haven't followed Johnson to closely. Has Tyler taken an offical visit to NU ? I'm assuming she probably has, but....... Only the coaching staff know where they're at in terms of need at F or G...or.... got to think they could use a player of Tyler's calibur. Good luck to her that she finds what she's happy with in the long run. But NU may not take more than 5 this year, but as been said.......depends on the situation.
  3. Hooray !!!! Wow....Great to have the Page sisters and Rachel coming to NU ! I'm sure the boys will still be the practice team of choise......just adds a ton to practice for the girls in terms of speed and strength needed at the college level...both offensively and defensively. Another great class coming in 2015. Will Yori take one or two more ? Need another guard? It kind of depends on what Yori see's as the need...and even the calibur of the prospect, no matter the position.
  4. One newbie we haven't talked about is 6'-1 guard Chandler Smith. I listened to an interview with Smith one time, where she discussed her talks with Yori, and apparently Smith may get a shot at the point, as well as shooting guard. Smith played the point a lot in club ball, and H.S. too, and is a playmaker at the guard spot. She can score with the 3. She taller, and plays longer than one might think...about the same as the Page girls. Also read where one recruiting service said Smith may one of biggest sleepers in the top 100, and Nebraska got a good one....(for whatever that opinions worth.) Under new NCAA rules, Coaches are allowed to workout with their players for eight hours a week — including two on the court — if the athletes are enrolled in summer school or have met certain academic benchmarks. Anyone know if Yori's doing the summer workouts? Does the B1G allow them?
  5. Thanks for your post Dlrrk, Your comments on rankings is spot on. Yori doesn't place a great deal on them either. The important thing for a new NU student athletete, is high character...and it's highly valued in these parts, by the coaching staffs and fans alike. Rachel has it or she wouldn't have been pursued by NU. As along time fan....I have to say we're all very excited that your daughter has committed to Nebraska. And as a fellow dad....I think you have to be thrilled your daughter has taken the next big step in her life. Congratulations to both of you.
  6. Actually, I thought more about Havers this morning as the probable 5th starter. She's got a year under her belt, and I'll bet she'll be much improved. She's very athletic.....Yoir's kind of player....and Havers now knows the "system" Didn't mention her in my previous post about new players as I assumed she would probably be starting, and which of the new players will be getting more court time as the season goes on. She didn't get extended minutes too much last year, with Hooper playing, but will next season. Havers can rebound and score, so she has to be in the lead at the forward spot. She was usually the first off the bench last year. Actaully the forward (4) spot will have several options this year....good options. Havers, Kalenta (40% at the 3 shot in Jr Col), and Paige.... all can move well. Cady may get some rest as the season rolls along. And who may redshirt? Maybe the P from Calif. and ? Do you think that the 6'3 center Darrien Washington girl who is a post would get some PT and not redshirt ? Or do you think that she would need the year to get up to speed ? If my memory serves me right...my understanding is that Washington is fairly new to basketball (compared to a Romero for example that has played years of club ball.) I haven't seen any video on Washington.......anyone else? She could come in and dazzel the coaches...we'll see. So redshirting (with any new player obviously)...is probably dependent on...does she want to redshirt, and whether or not she's appears to be ready to play now (when she practices with the team)...so could it be to her benefit to redshirt? This is a big class coming in, so there's a greater probability one or some might redshirt. And in 2015, Shepard and the rest of what may be another nice class coming.......Yori's got to see a problem...a real nice problem coming of getting playing time sorted out. Kalenta's only got two years to play.....I'm assuming she can't redshirt (she's from outside the country)... or could she? If she can't redshirt...then she'll play of course. In 2015, NU will be loaded....maybe more so than ever before. But we'll be awfully young. Next 2 or 3 years will a lot of fun to watch. This is the only video that I found of Washington, And I'm not sure as to which one she is. Maybe it's #50 in the video. Washington can play the post with her back to basket, so maybe that's her ? #50 looks tall....Washingtons about 6-3

  8. And now, because of all the puplicity, she now has nation wide exposer. I imagine lots of schools will be calling.

  10. Hailie Sample has picked up her scoring every year.......her knowing that she needs to score...I expect her to improve next year. Pressure from new players to get playing time (not right away, but later) will add to Sample trying to get more scoring. Her defense keeps her in the game...it's not a mistake she's All B1G defensive team. But another inside that can defend will allow some subbing.
  11. Delete this post ?
  12. With at least 4 starters returning, Yori's in pretty good spot. I see the 4 that started last year, as starting. Then who will be the one to step up and be able to start? And equally well, Yori's got excellent talent coming in. The early experiments (rotations in and out) will be interesting. It really depends obviously, on which forward will be ready first. (assuming the need is to fill Hoopers slot as a forward.) I'm guessing the new Jr College player Kalenta, will be in the mix since she's had All American college (and international) experience. And is 6'-3" for defense in the paint, rebounding, shot blocking, etc. She can score too. (20 ptg in JC) Don't really view her as a "new" player. Totally a guess, but initially Yori will go with experience, then blend in the new girls as they develope. Some more quickly than others.......probably Romero and Page earlier....but who knows, as time will tell. Later on, more newbies may get to play. A scorer may get the call should one develope at any position. ....but they'll have to be able to play Yori's defense. I see a second guard set that can substitute, and forwards to help rotation too. But wouldn't be too surprised if one or two newbies develope real quick. The first part of the season will be really interesting. Over all, Yori may get to a faster game, with more subs (that she didn't have last year) that can run a faster paced game. My quesses anyway.....having not seen any of the new players even step on the court.
  13. I see she's on the top 100 list of ProspectNation at the post position. She was on the All Central Texas top 5 team last year as a Jr. Would be a nice recruit to man the paint, get rebounds and block shots. Pretty athletic from what I've read.

  15. Got my fingers crossed that she'll be a Husker !
  16. Those are some great prospects....very good "resumes" in deed. Way to go Row6Seat10....great resumes to think about. To replace a defensive coach......the defensive knowledge is critical of course...but in this day and age, recruiting has become very important too. Like all NU teams......we must reach out to all areas, all over the US, to get the best most qulaified players we can find. This is a super opportunity to find some "new" blood, as they say. Connie has opportunity to add to the program, in many ways. I'll have my fingers crossed......I would think a replacment should come fairly soon.
  17. My question is how did IU & PU miss on her or was she just not interested in them. But Hopeful she can add some punch and depth to go with iot. From what I have heard is that the first JC she was at (Broward College in Florida) really jerked her around and had her taking underwater basketweaving type classes. In the article it said she wants to pursue a career in Pharmacology- "jock" classes will not get to where she wants to go in life. So she moved on from Broward to Vincennes. At Vincennes she has had a lot of work to make up to be able to move on to NCAA next year. I don't know if this is 100% correct but she had like 28 credits to take in this current spring semester and this summer to be able to qualify. I can see schools just not wasting their time on someone that has so much work to do to be able to qualify. Maybe PU is set at that position? I see at least IU had her in and was interested- obviously she was not interested in them. Kalenta seems to be a high character young lady, and wants to move forward and improve her life. It would take a strong person to leave her home country and pursue her opportunities in America. We, as NU fans know ......It's very, very important to UNL that they offer all the opportunities to help the student be successful in school, and life.... not just a given sport. Yori's said (somthing to the effect) in the LJS article that Hanna is smart, and is a great person, with a wonderful sense of humor......not just a good basketball player. Just the type of person NU, Connie Yori, and UNL's fans, love as student athletes. I wish for her nothing but sucess at UNL in her two years here.
  18. Just guessing...but her JC is about 100 miles from Indy where the B1G tourney was held. Who knows ....could be Kalenta (and her coach) watched NU in tourney..... and contacted Yori ??
  19. Just saw where Kalenta was recently named 3rd team Jr College All-American. Her coach didn't really agree saying ..... “I find it hard to believe that there are 20 better junior college players in the country,” Meeks said, “but I want to congratulate Anya on being an All-American. She had an incredible season and I’m very proud of her. VU certainly appreciates everything she has done for our program.” _______ Also found where she played on the Belarus national U16 team in 2010 The 2010 FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women was the 22nd edition of the FIBA Europe Under-16 Championship for Women. 16 teams featured the competition, held in Greece from August 12–22. She was the top shot blocker (3.9 per game) in the tourney, had as much a 24 pts in a game.
  20. ANYA “HANNA” KALENTA I googled her and saw a little video, from her freshmen year. Played there and at another school in her Soph. year. By the short video it appeared she moves fairly well. Could drive to the hoop.......and did hit a 3 too. More than just a post player probably. Looked tall and long...good hands. Not as strong as Hooper probably, but not as thin as Havers either. No way to tell how much international play she may of had......at least I didn't find it in a quick search. But she'll have some experience beyond high school. She may end up being a nice add. As a Juco she'll play this fall....making this a large class coming in. Unexpected get.... but her inside presence could be a big benefit, if she can quickly grasp Yori's schemes. http://athletics.vinu.edu/players/kalenta-anya
  21. I notice that none of each teams new comers are included in the rankings. It would seem that the strength of new freshmen could make a difference.....but their rankings are a place to start I suppose. No Penn St ?
  22. Yori's comment ...while blunt and maybe make one cringe...is right on. We don't have an answer for someone like UConns center....6'-5" and I'll bet nearly 200lbs......but no one else does either. (she was no speed demon down the floor though, but very tough in the paint.) BYU's 6-7 center was a force in the paint...but not much else....the 3 shooting was their killer as stated above. Sample is obviously one of the best defenders in the B1G...but to win in the NCAA's....she must be a scorer too...maybe 10 points/gm would work. BYU didn't cover her at all....just let her open to shoot. That's opens up their defense to double teamimg, and two down low at the same time....that hurt us. Everyone knows we need depth and the ability to run, hopefully with the added depth next year. We couldn't do it much this year because we're playing 5 ...or 6...maybe 7. We can negate the big posts somewhat if we can run more. On paper at least...we look to be deeper next year....if the "newbies" can get a feel for Yori's scheme. Got to think the coaching staff is drooling at the thought of the new talent. Next year seems to have real chance for an upgrade to the team overall. Recruits in 2015 like the 2014 bunch could elevate the team to another level.....wishfull thinking maybe?
