  1. More news: LJS Women’s basketball faces heavy roster turnover, finds hope in freshmen http://www.dailynebraskan.com/sports/women-s-basketball-faces-heavy-roster-turnover-finds-hope-in/article_88b754f6-7ea5-11e5-bfb7-97927ee06b4d.html
  2. Didn't I hear Clark was a pretty good shooter ? Many of our injuries are getting healed up at the perfect time. Will help a ton, with just a few real games (Aussy) played early, with Clark, Shepard, and Blackburn on the floor too.... is huge. Just need a couple more guards to get up to speed.
  3. Feel good article. Jess and Blackburn may start ? .....two freshman ? http://www.omaha.com/huskers/women-s-basketball-jessica-shepard-cleared-to-return/article_50455646-7db9-11e5-bd32-6b5f64adc195.html
  4. The ability to (legaly) put forearms./hands on oponents back will change the inside play some, if you have more physical players. We have a good set of bigs that are physical, and kind of plays into their hands...so to speak. I'll bring my ear plugs for the last one
  5. So here we go ! Let's have a little fun with it.. First exibition game with Nebraska-Kearney. I guess a 75(NU)-55 score with Jess at least 15 pts if she plays about 2/3 of the game. (but may not because of her recovery.....staff may still be a little cautious about her playing too much right away. ....plus Conie may want to get the bench more playing time.) Rachel T & Romero 15 each also..... with maybe 2 others with 10+ ..Havers & Clark, and one of the posts....Blackburn maybe. So what do you think ?
  6. And will play sunday. Who is going to the game?Sent from my SM-G900V using Tapatalk Aleady know I can't be there. How about some serious reporting from you guys after the game?
  7. Maybe it's already been reported here,... Don't recall where I got this from, but I understand Clark is getting up to speed pretty well, as is Rachel T. Jess still a little behind maybe. (Just don't see any need to push her before she's healthy and ready. She'll mean to much in the future to have the injury be bothersome long term.) We should field a pretty good squad come this weekend. Maybe a little green in spots....but that's the deal most everyone has in the "pre-season". Austrailia experience gives us a big jump start. Real games in a few days !!
  8. yes, should have added a sidenote stating that the possibility of seeing those three on the floor at the same time is almost nil. just something fun to think about. I wouldn't be surprised if we do see those three on the court at the same time quite a bit. I hope we do, it'd be fun to watch. If you remember last season we went with a three guard lineup. Rachel, Tear'a and Brandi all started and Natalie took over for Rachel when she went down with her bum ankle. Rachel, Nat and Kyndal C. are our three most experienced players. I think all that experience will be really hard to keep off the court. And I think as long as Kyndal stays healthy and painfree she will get 20-25 minutes a game. Now had Chandler Smith still been here I think she would have been one of the starters and received quite a few minutes. I think the major substitution patterns will be made with the big girls underneath. Basically the only big girl with any sort of playing experience at this level right now is Allie. Jessica, although will get a lot of minutes providing she's healthy enough to play them. I see a liberal 4 player rotation among Allie, Jess, Rachel B, and Darrian in an effort to keep them fresh and gain experience. I think the guards will sub when the time warrants. Right now I see NU going with two big girls on the floor along with those three experienced guards at least in the non conference or until we get some good contributions among the big girls. Pretty much the way I see it might happen. We just have too much in play now, in the front court, to not use two inside most of the time. But Jess isn't just a post player. Her game is way beyond that. All of a sudden we're big. So maybe Blackburn, Washington, Ostrander as more the true post, with Jess of couse a bit more free to play her game. Havers plays away from the basket some of the time, and with the "new" post players, it may help her 12' to 15' game. (would love to see her drive to the basket more) Plus we can sure clog up the paint with two bigs on defense. Actually, right now, we're a little short (pun) on guards, with two out due to injury. Granted we have three excellent probable starters in Rachel, Romero and Clark, but Maddie and Wood don't yet have near the experience. Need to get Jazz & Esther back into the mix. Like has been hinted at previously... we could see early, more "called" plays offensively, until we can come together a bit more. Called plays can help get the offense going quickly, with a not so experienced roster. Many new possibilites. It'll be real interesting to see how Connie puts the schemes togetther.
  9. Kind of depends on how soon Jess might be able to dominate inside. (assuming she can) Other teams may have to pick their poison..... on how they try to defend her and the other strong shooters (I think we will have other scorers this year,...both Rachels, Romero, Clark, Havers+ more) Jess and the other posts must learn to play together.....pass...and shoot.....give and go If Jess turns out to be what we hope she will develope into....other defenses will have to do some double teaming on her. If so, it will really open up the inside for open shots by Havers, Blackburn, Washington etc. Plus it'll make man coverage more difficult for covering the other 4 on our offense. Probably go to zone, with double team of Jess. (it's all assuming Jess gets up to speed) Jess may help to get some defenders to foul out....she no wall flower...will take it to the hoop. We have the potential to be very troublesome to other teams....for Jess's next 4 years at least Ain't it great !

    Jess

Might just only be the beginning....stay healthy Ms Shepard
  11. You guys do realize .......the games start in a little over two weeks..... .....
  12. More stuff is starting to show up in the news as seasons about to arrive. Height no issue for Yori's team (LJS) http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/womens-basketball/women-s-hoops-height-no-issue-for-yori-s-team/article_2dd5a166-f9b7-55c7-8262-616243a0891d.html
  13. Might be able to add Washington as bit of a surprise.....it will finally be her chance, after sitting the pines for a year. Curious how Ostrander might do too. Well I think.
  14. My uneducated guesstiment.....optimistic as always.....who needs to be, to real at this point. Like huskercode said...around 21-8, 20-9....maybe better? .....and optimistically, I hope they make the NCAA tourney. Still believe if Rachel T and Shepard are full speed we will have a great chance at surprising some teams, ...and prognosticators. The couple of current injuries hurt the guard spots. Got to get 3 or 4 more of the newbies to contribute ASAP.......Rachel B, Ostrander, Washington, Clark, Maddie. We'll probably miss Jazz, Her experience, if only a years worth, would have helped early. How the young ones gel is pretty much key to our success. I really hope we can get floor time for the rookies, in the preseason. B1G Starters: Rachel T. Havers, Romeo, Shepard, Clark (maybe)...Cincore probably would have started ? Could have used the players that left, only in the sense of filling certain spots on the court,,,,otherwise we'll move ahead. Looking at the roster it's apparent why Yori's recruiting for the back court. Just need more bodies to add to the competition. Some good guards will graduate in next couple of years.
  15. Great recruit from Wisky, and welcome to HUSKER land Hannah ! Connie seems to be looking for guard and wing scorers this class. Connie feels they're pretty well set for bigs ?....at least for now. This is probably the last recruit for this class?
  16. Whitiish video clips: (she's #24) http://www.hudl.com/athlete/4793327/hannah-whitish She's an excellent 3 shooter...shot 45% from the 3 pt line. Hit 87 last year....3X All State (gezzz ...H.S. ball play seems really slow after following college ball)
  17. LJS article on Shepard and Rachel T getting ready for season. http://journalstar.com/sports/huskers/women-s-basketball-theriot-shepard-coming-back-from-injuries-together/article_b8e65ffa-f442-5729-89c4-537c42d8c95f.html
  18. Agree. We will be much deeper in the post. Granted there are newbies, but they're very capable rookies....with size. While some are rookies, Washington has practiced with the team for a year, Havers is an experienced junior, Blackburn has the nose for the ball as shown in Australia, Ostrander has years of experience playing college athletics (was an excellent rebounder in HS), and of course...... Shepard...if she's healthy, and can get up to speed by B1G start...lookout ...best Ne. HS womens Bball player I ever saw in person. I really like the potential this team has going in to game play. We'll need a few games under their belt with all hands on deck, so we can gel.
  19. From OWH on up coming season, and some info on individual players...freshman, etc http://www.omaha.com/huskers/rachel-theriot-s-return-gives-husker-hoops-a-major-missing/article_982e4b5c-6d56-11e5-bd08-fbd56fadffd6.html
  20. Good article......but #39...too low for our mighty team !
  21. Certianly can't argue against. The simple fact we're discussing it means there's a void there, and it's apparent. I guess Connie simply isn't a "hype" coach. but your point about wanting to build fan support and attendance, make since. I know the Aussy trip took a lot of her time this summer, but even more noise about it could be benefical. Connie thrives mostly it seems, on being the coach, and the art of coaching. (Proven to be sucessful by the way.) And there's the sports media people that don't go too far out of it's way to pump up the team in the media...are there any womens media people specifically reporting NU womens Bball?....can't think of many
  22. Starting practice article http://www.huskers.com/ViewArticle.dbml?DB_OEM_ID=100&ATCLID=210397135
  23. Yea, it's way far out in the future, and jumping the gun so to speak...but... Anyone know if 2017 6-2 forward Lauryn Miller of Kirkwood, Mo. is on NU's radar? She earned a spot on the Under 16 USA Basketball team, before she had a knee injury. Top 50 recruit probably Have a friend in KC that says she a super capabile young prospect from the St Louis area.

    Deja Vu

Not to be a downer, but geeeez. There has to be some issue (many posibilities) present for this to keep happening. Hope Jazz can get back before B1G season. We'll need her.....she'll add more this year than last, with a years experience she's already put in. Really like her hard work ethic, drive to get better, and improve. Seem's to a great young lady.
  25. There's good multiple picture galleries on that site of the new 2015 recruits too..and Ostrander is shown now too.
