  1. Geno was into his about 39th straight sweet 16 (if not better...maybe elite 8 ?)....(if I remember the numbers correctly) He get's the talent no question. But to win that consistently, for decades... is the measure of top level coaches in any sport. He gets the most from his players. Watched them yesterday. They don't look like world beaters, but they efficiently get the job done....control the flow of the game. Some one scores 40 and it helps :) Yep, I'm a fan. Just like to see any team execute and play well. No trash talking, knocking people over....just playing the game.
  2. If you have a team deep enough.....basically two starting teams (or three ??) then go for it. Wear the other team out is probably the focus. But it takes a deep, deep team to go to that scheme. The women's game is becoming a faster game. More like the men in some respects too.. (physical)
  3. Watching some games today (Sat).....geeezee.....the refs are not calling fouls ! Last night UCLA...Betts was getting brutalized ....beat up...very few fouls called. Seems like teams that likes beat you up, has a chance to win in the tourney. That's what it seems to have come to.
  4. From another board.....portal players. Confirmed by Amy Barmore (HuskerOnline) Other names linked to Nebraska have been Sophie Swanson (Purdue), Catherine Abden (Charleston Southern) and Haleigh Timmer (South Dakota State), .....NU seems to be going guard heavy so far.
  5. Make no claim to know all the inner working of WBB ay NU..... Big issue...hope Potts can be at full speed next year. Weidner may retire ? Not many committed recruits in play so far, kind of troubling considering the reduced numbers after graduation this year. Just keep thinking Amy might surrender (so to speak ) and kind of revise her thinking about use of the portal. While we fully get her desire to put together a "family" style team (and there's no question there's value in that), maybe, just maybe, there's also value in what we can recruit using the portal, with greater emphasis finding players out there in the portal. Where is the future of obtaining players? Recruiting HS players, or the portal, or like most are doing these days...a mix of both. It's getting so some teams wholesale assemble, nearly complete teams through the portal...Michigan, Maryland, TCU etc etc Which is sort of freaky (too old school I guess) We're going to be a much different team next season. And certainly a lot can change by then.
  6. Iowa got beat by over 30...Oklahoma was a lot better than Iowa....at lease today anyway.
  7. Watched the game too. Impressed with SDS. Just no mistakes, very few turnovers. No fear, just taking care of business. Played full tilt the whole game. Looked a little like Creighton, but didn't rely on the 3. Like said...you could see how well coached they were.
  8. 3.5 pts......Yep, hoping it is a toss up game in reality. And looking at their schedule results this season, they have seen ups and downs, similar to like we have. They got spanked by UConn. They've got some good size....so productive business in the lane may be at a premium. Have a Nigerian big at 6-5, and a couple more at 6-3 +. We'll have to fight for rebounds. Another of their big's is an Aussy. And some quickness at the guard. Going to be a tough one for the first game. Our bracket is not a easy one anyway. But we've been playing together real well recently. Hope we can pull out another one. 9. From confused......It's in the news that she has committed to South Carolina,,,so which is it ???
  10. Watched her game yesterday. She's really young...a freshman. What 13 or 14 ? But she has the tools to be an athlete at the college level. Tall already... ...6-3 I think. Long legs and long arms. Runs the floor well....good foot speed. Coordinated movement. She reminds me of an Andi Jackson.....only 5 years +- younger. (maybe that's a stretch) but you get what mean. I think I read that she had 300 kills last season on Mllfords volleyball team. And Mom was an All-American volleyball at NU
  11. Sorry already we didn't get her...Neleigh (sp) may well start as a freshman for Creighton. Deadly 3 shooter. Exactly what they recruit.
  12. Shaya Rautenberg ? of MIlford. (think that's how it's spelled)
  13. Betts.....such an athlete.... in the sense she is so huge and strong, but her moves are so natural and smooth. Obviously one of the best women "bigs" playing the college game. It would take a twin to be competitive against her. Refs helped her a few times....she does have a tendency to make a slight double hop before shooting. We could have focused more on a double team, but may not have made any difference. But was impressed with our overall efforts....... played aggressive and tough. Not afraid of them this time. We haven't been hesitant or nervous most of last several games....it's almost like a kick a** switch was flipped, and it's go time. Really fun to watch.
  14. Unless a big is brought in....the inside will have to be done by committee. If Potts can come back nearly full speed, alone with the "bigs" we have now, then we may have a good portion of what we need. It looks like all those coming back actually have the potential to be better scorers. Last night teams are double teaming and got real physical with Markowski, and the refs seemed to be making a point to watch every movement she made. So everyone else must produce...which we did. Anyway.....losing your top rebounder, and an offensive threat, is always hard to replace
  15. Emma's on the Australian National team...or was anyway. Surely we're talking to her ? She's about the same size as Jessica.
  16. Bozan (and the other freshmen too)...she's now playing without the deer in the headlights look. She was really out of her element at first. Even with a lot of important European classical post play training...the US college (& B1G) game was over her head at the first half of the season ...not to mention her moving to a new country, and new life/language/team mates. Most noticeably, she is playing a lot faster now. More creating the play and not just letting it happen around her. Just would help to now become a tough rebounder, and she'll be a complete package. Next year may well be a breakout year for her...and the other freshman as far as that goes. Looks good for the future !

  18. This was a game of team balance in play and in mental focus . May be what we haven't always been so great at. Everyone was unselfish, and wide open in helping each other. Maybe most of all they have learned to have confidence in themselves...and each other. That's my kind of basketball. The commentators said after the game...the players listen to Alexis...they heard her say in a huddle..."you can do it...you can do it"

  20. Alexis Markowski is a First Team All-Big Ten selection by the media and a second-team pick by the coaches. The senior from Lincoln is a two-time First Team All-Big Ten pick. She is the... first ...Husker to earn four first- or second-team all-conference honors. https://www.on3.com/teams/nebraska-cornhuskers/news/nebraska-center-alexis-markowski-named-all-big-ten-first-team/ Brett Prince was also named to the Honorable Mention team, as well as on the All Freshman team B1G Conference WBB All Star teams https://assets.contentstack.io/v3/assets/bltca750cef518bc6e4/blte5c04fb400fbb087/2024-25 WBB Postseason Honors.pdf

  22. Markowski 2nd team All Big ten Even tougher calls here! Alexis Markowski and Kaylene Smikle were very nearly first-team selections for me, especially with how much of the volume Markowski has shouldered down the stretch of this season. 23. Good win, against a decent, not great team...but will take the win. Markowski "player of the game" with 30 pts. I'm a broken record...Rimdal should start.
  24. 31 pts first qtr !! Markowski and Rimdal are focused today.
