Players pretty well spread-out from all over the US. Only a couple from the B1G conference, let alone none from Nebraska. But we have a couple that can help us this year, at the 4, given the opportunity.

Hoopla's preview for the Big10 condensed....
redsteve replied to whoopdeedoo's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
They have us mid pack, which is an OK spot to start. And what they said about the team may be fairly accurate. Even without Weidner (if she can't play), we will have a pretty solid squad overall. Some new blood to integrate that looks good from what little we've seen so far. The key may be how can we replicate the versatility of Bourne ? She very valuable scoring and rebounding and many other ways. -
Have heard that before.... last spring I think it was. And yes, think it's just rumor stuff. Don't have a real clue, where Britt will go. Her choices are too many to try to figure out a winner. It's nothing but a guess for fans. But.. hoping it could be Nebraska. But if not, she'll probably pick a high level nationally ranked team.

Already have Peacock so may be a nice deal. Will check it out.

Markowski and Jazz named to preseason team. https://bigten.org/news/2023/9/30/general-iowa-and-caitlin-clark-lead-big-ten-preseason-womens-basketball-honors.aspx (Nebraska and Ohio state only team to have 2 players on teams.)

Yes, it was just a practice scrimmage really, so it's not an indicator of too much. Continual subbing, mixing players all the time. But the whole squad played. No one on crutches, or bench ridden. The intensity wasn't game like, but kind of to be expected given the circumstances. Simply have a fun night on the court. Weidner was moving pretty well overall... like said...she looked rusty. But it was encouraging to see her not hesitating to play. No limping, etc. Petrie seemed to have a good BBall IQ, and good moves around the basket...she had good experience in Australia, but didn't play enough last night to see too much. The new kids were getting their feet wet to the overall environment of Nebraska college basketball. The shots were falling fairly well for the "veterans". Their comfort with the setting was obvious. One thing noticed, is the inside game. We might be stronger at the 4's and 5's.....and going at the basket by guards. Both the Kendal's looked comfortable. There will be quite a few preseason games for the newbies to get some on the court exposure and have the game slow down. Last night is a start. Lot more practices to come. I've kind of taken the women's game...taken the summer off for the most part. So it's about time to renew my BTN+ and get with the program. It should be a fun season. And filled with ups and downs. We've got more experience, but a lot of newness too. Good depth overall. Will be interesting to see how the lineup develops.

Cook also has 3 more commits for 2025. With 3 in 2024 there's a natural log jamb in numbers. All the current volleyball starters, will be back next year too. And most are freshmen (no seniors). They look like their having fun, so doubt any leave. So obviously there will be some "attrition" among those not playing consistently now. Like has been discussed at length, Maggie may be one of them unfortunately. Cook really has it tough finding recruits.

Watched Stanford match last night. The new freshman are a very special group. ....No. 1 recruiting class w/ no. 1 player out of H.S. Defense, quickness and speed are amazing. Maggie watched the entire match. It will be tough for anyone to beat out our other mids playing now. The starters seemed to be established, and probably won't see to much changing now. ...baring injuries. Maggie will get subbing time most likely. Anyway...Like someone mentioned before, Maggie might give some thought as to what she want's to do next year. Hard to say for sure. She has several options. We need her on the BBall team for sure.

More too early for predictions...BUT my genie in the bottle says.... That's probably close as I see the starters too. But not sure about Weidner. If she's not ready to play now, then hard to say she will be fully ready by Oct games. (Doc's probably know) Just hope she recovers fully at what ever point, and is game ready with no issues. If that's this fall... then great obviously. Will have to see it in person I guess. If she can't go early then expect Moriarty or Krull to start. Lot's of options at guard though. We'll be in pretty good shape with the 3 shots....#2 Nissey will add to the production. We actually could be better at guards driving to the basket. (White and Moriarty...as well as the last years guards) We should be OK inside and at the 4. Markowski, Stewart (seems to kind of hit her stride), Potts, Mendelson (expect more skills this season as she adapts to the college game), and even White scrambles well to get some rebounds. Potts may help offset for the loss of Issie. Hardly a scientific BBall analysis ...just food for thought at this point. (hope nobody else gets hurt : ( Like this team...so many possibilities at full court play, fast breaks, ...deeper and more versatile.

Hoped the Greek squads would have been more competitive. The trip has to be a great trip for the team..(I'm jealous) Markowski another double double.....think she did all three games. White may have the most impressive newbie...to the team. , and all the team looked real comfortable and ready. As had been said .. the freshman are impressive for kids just out of H.S. Potts had a double - double ! Box score ...sort of https://friendly-games.sportstats.gr/college/2022-2023/gamedetails/id/EF70B6E6-3AB9-4E31-B6FA-7420DF9F7957 Still lots of time before the season, and lots to do to jell in coming together with team concepts/schemes.
-
2ND Greek game: The girls seem to really like the faster play on offense, fast breaks, etc. .......and full court man defense sometimes. Newbie White is a ball court demon...in a good way ! Is a great add to the team. Moriarty looks really good today. She likes the quick tempo...most of the squad seems to as far as that goes.
-
Speculation: More full court pressing, for example, could be a result of new asst. coaches and their input to overall schemes. Hope so, and we might see some new approaches/opportunities. (pretty sure, from videos seen) the freshman played using presses in high school) Yes Karl, This "newest" roster may be part of the reason, but just as likely... just change, or adding to new asst. coaching thinking and/or philosophies.
-
Maybe I'm stretching and it's way to early....biased of course .....but from what little I've seen of the two new freshman, they kind of give off that same vibe Weidner had when she was a true freshman. Hustle, aggressiveness, High BBall IQ, and like I mentioned a couple of posts ago...no fear. What's not to like? High on them already obviously...look like good recruits......so we'll see.
-
Watched it ....the girls seemed ready to go. A nice warm up game to get into a flow. Looks like about the whole new roster can contribute this year.. Hope Weidner can recover and make a go of it. A good way to get some gym time as a new squad. We'll be a bit different next season. Really liked the two freshmen. Good BBall IQ's... and good skill sets. They looked like they will be able to contribute pretty quickly. Potts started, but probably means little. She's got some get up and go though... no fear....either of the newbies. Three shooting was prevalent, and we did pretty well. Lots of subbing as would be expected. Small gym....looked like a small school gym. :)

Bored with no games going on....... You'll may have seen this. Brief practice twitter blip. Trying to identify a couple of girls ...freshmen ? Is Weidner in there? s

Video of Issie playing now in Australia. Her playing experience at Nebraska really shows. This stuff has been said a dozen times but just read an article, and thought would provide some reading material one more time. We're going to really miss her this coming season. Not just playing on the floor, but what a great teammate and representative of the Huskers. ALSO an article from Hail Varsity you may have seen. https://hailvarsity.com/womens-basketball/isabelle-bournes-pro-career-in-australia-off-to-fast-start/

PER HUSKER.COM This not new or a surprise, but thought it was a good read: (maybe you all have seen it a lot already) The Nebraska women's basketball team will begin preparations soon for its summer tour of Greece, July 30 through August 9. The nearly two-week trip will include visits to the legendary city of Athens, the Gulf of Corinth and Heraklion, Crete before concluding on the Athenian Riviera.All-Big Ten guard Jaz Shelley and All-Big Ten center Alexis Markowski will lead the Huskers during the three-game tour, while seeing the sites of the Acropolis, the Parthenon, Olympia, the ancient site of Delphi, Knossos Palace and much more.Returning Husker starters Allison Weidner and Maddie Krull, along with significant contributors Annika Stewart, Kendall Moriarty, Kendall Coley and Callin Hake will be joined by graduate transfer Darian White and incoming freshmen Logan Nissley and Natalie Potts to complete Nebraska's roster on the trip. Weidner, who is recovering from injury, will travel but is not expected to play. In the picture it doesn't show Logan Missy or Natalie Potts (really want to see her play...has great credentials), but they are mentioned in article. Can use them in absence of Weidner. Want to see team play ! Wonder how we might see them play....Youtube ? https://huskers.com/news/2023/6/16/womens-basketball-huskers-set-summer-sights-on-greece.aspx

2024 SF, Amiah Hargrove, 6-2, Christopher HS (IL) is 'N'
redsteve replied to Red Don's topic in Row 6 Seat 10
Really like her size, and athlete mobility. Need more 4's ...she just might fit the bill. Yes also agree..... Could be.......Prince just might take notice of Bahl's return to UNL. It may well add to the conversation in her mind.
-
Noted in article she had visited Nebraska 3 times previously. Wish we could get updates on who's visiting .....like football news does. Plays the floor well. Very good overall guard skills. Nice pickup for the future. VIDEO
-
Yes agree...with all 13 as active players, that's probably enough. Maybe could take a four position, but not just to fill the bench. There's a really good mix of guards. Nice team coming up this season. Who might filter out as the starting 4 is interesting. Have to feel Coach will look to one of her experienced players...to start the season at least. She leans to experience many times. The blend has turned out well with incoming freshmen, and transfer. Next couple of years will keep on generating different squads. .

Sorry, thinking of men's basketball transfer guards I had just read about, among several other sports (and schools), that I was reading about while sitting waiting for an hour, in a doctors office (for wife). Sorry, one new guard transfer and one new guard, women's BBall commit recently.
-
The two transfers plus the new freshman, will definitely be of benefit while Allison rehabs, coming into next season. Already have some guards, but some reinforcements are welcomed. We're going to be a new land a bit different next season, will be fun watching them develop and gell once again. A new lineup is all guess work for now, but we will have a different makeup. Summer practice starts next month (I think), would love to watch the "goings on"....be the "fly on the wall"

New committ 2025 More stuff.... Really like her floor game https://www.hudl.com/profile/9401117/McKenzie-Mathurin https://prospectsnation.com/player/mckenzie-mathurin#videos

NIL fiasco.... Read something interesting today about the PAC 12 losing players to the portal. Lots of movement away from the Pac 12 by good players. A couple of coaches seemed to "think" their player was being offered big NIL money...maybe even before they go to portal. ...say it ain't so. Stanford has lost last years no.1 "pick' to UCLA, and UCLA just got the transfer of pick no. 2 from last year. UCLA of course goes to B1G next year. ....UCLA will be more than tough. Maybe we aren't buying enough players ?? Good read although a little long https://herhoopstats.substack.com/p/high-profile-pac-12-transfers?utm_source=substack&utm_medium=email
