  1. Stats: We outrebounded them 46-28. ....That is outstanding, and where a lot of Mich. issues come from. Also read somewhere (read lots of stiff on game) that we scored about 40% of our points from in the paint. We had lots of layup's and bunny type baskets. That will up your percentage normally.
  2. It's up to the head coach and offensive coach to set up plays, set up schemes, 1/2 court offenses, full court offense. Looks like Ruhle is changing his offensive QB coach to get better production out of the offense. Read somewhere that the Mich coach kept changing players to get a fire going under someone, because their offense was stagnant .
  3. Yes, a little variance in the offense would help get some points on the board. Speaking of Markowski there are articles in OWH and Linc paper today about Alexis and includes some info about her friendship with Britt Prince and recruiting Prince.
  4. Mich looks somewhat like us. Top half of B1G team. Watched part of one of their game couple of weeks ago, and was not overwhelmed, but they seem to be ready to break out and could have a good game(s) They're well coached, and organized. Have some quickness. Maybe a bit taller overall than us, so we'll need to fight for rebounds. Games on our court with our fans, so that's worth 5-10 points
  5. I for one, really don't care who it is, or starts, personnel wise, at a guard position......rather evaluate the performance. Not going to bad mouth any player. Just want to see scoring, defense, good ball handling, low turn overs, etc etc. Have a player at any position and consistently struggles, then look at others on the bench. We have options on the squad. This is B1G college basketball. We just can't afford low individual scoring, or poor defense, or what ever...and expect to have the team get to the next step. Still believe we have the elements of a pretty darn good team. GBR
  6. Agree with a lot you both have said about the efficiency stats. In some cases it makes some sense, in others not at all... to me anyway. Maybe I just haven't taken enough time to examine the process of developing 'efficiency stats' For my own ways of looking all the usual stat sheet, (and watching the game itself), I still just don't see a huge correlation to a players value to the team/game, or indication of value for efficiency stats. Maybe just to old school ? Defense or offense players selection: In basketball anyway, always thought you play your best 5 offensively, and then teach them to be defenders too, if they're not already. Sure there are exceptions in special cases. In a nut shell.....have a starter that isn't able to score proficiently, then give another productive offensive player a chance, and tell them/teach them, what you want from them (offensively and defensively) Minn was a good example of that, at least that in their case developing defenders in about everyone, and have a few that are your scorers. (I thought their coaches did a good job of using each players skills ....effectively Enough diatribe...on to the next one
  7. Markowski's charge: AGREE It's a block, and is a foul on the defender. That kind of play where the defender undercuts a player in the air (at the last split second of the shot at the basket) is getting into the area where the shooter can be injured. B1G should look at that. If nothing else to make refs aware of how to call an incident like that. And...It hurt us in an important part of the game.
  8. Got out played badly in 1st half. Guards didn't score well for three qtrs. At one point in 3rd qtr, I think, Markowski had almost as many points as all the guards combined. Just can't be that way and win consistently. The whole game guard play was weak offensively. We struggle driving to basket. (as has been said by everyone all season) And...we don't shoot the mid range well, or often At one point late in our rally, Hake hits a three, and is taken out ? MINN: And we got out coached. When Minn gets more talent ...watch out. Their new coach gets everything out of their players....and they don't have loads of skilled players, but they play up to their individual skill levels and they do it aggressively. They win by being well prepared and well coached in the game, along with a 2 or 3 skilled players. Looking at the stats...almost every Minn player scored. Playing there, helped Minn win. Home court is everything in the B1G. If played here, we probably win, but the final score is all the counts today.
  9. Braun (G) is their shooter. One big key will be shutting her down, other wise it may be a long day. Minny's loses have been to good teams. This will be a tough one.
  10. Not a huge Iowa fan, but..... Iowa didn't play particularly good defense for several recent years, but found out they couldn't get to the 'big time' without it. To their credit, they have improved defensively, and made it part of their game plan. Remember Yori putting Sample on the best scorer of the other team, and shadowed her all the game. Not really team defense, but it worked
  11. Noticed from the stats we won the rebounding battle 45-29 which is pretty dominate. And we also only had 11 fouls. So it was getting the ball through the hoop was our biggest problem...34%. Most times you lose at poor shooting like that. Funky game where we just were out of sync a lot. A win is a win.... is a win

Can't stay out of this discussion.....and yes it's just a forum discussion. But some peoples feelings do get hurt if someone doesn't agree. Not unusual in any public forum...with internet keyboard pounders especially. Agree with most of what everyone has said for the most part.....with some minor exceptions. Lots of stuff has happened via AD's etc. over the last few years For me, just hope for a better than 500 record, year after year. We just haven't done so CONSITENTLY, let alone substantial improvement for quite a while. (not asking for substantial change at all, not my decision to make by any stretch of the imagination) ....I look at the bigger picture It's a matter, I guess, of what one accepts as appropriate, from a teams overall representation of UNL. Have felt the same about football, men's basketball, baseball, etc etc
  13. Yes, she's now leaving. With Landfair (All American ) coming in from MInn. Batenhorst was facing reality, and is on her way out. Not unlike all the rest who are transferring. When Skyler Pierce gets here there could be another.
  14. She's Indy leading scorer, and we never double team her ?
  15. She's kind of trying to do it all by herself. Not much help on defense...or rebounding. Indiana is good in all phases....coaching too. They have players that fit their system.
  16. There really hasn't been one to speak of. Mackenzie isn't usually guarding Alexis.... looks purposeful...maybe Indy is concerned MacK will get in foul issues ??.....and may be concerned Alexis will defend Mack well. Indy is shooting the lights out. Their offense moves the ball really well, and operates fast in the half court. Drives to the basket. We aren't keeping up and guarding against their shots. Conversely their defense is defending our shots pretty well. Lots of game left. I too can't think they can't keep shooting so well....but we have to defend better. It's not over, we can certainly play better in the 2nd half.
  17. Agree, Maggie did what she felt best for her, and so be it. Hope it works out for her. She seemed to be a nice young lady. And like said.... watching VB matches, you could easily see she wasn't happy. And also said before, ....at her position, it just wasn't going to happen. Yes, WBB took it in the shorts as they say. We lost an opportunity to have a 4 year scholarship player. An experiment that didn't work.... we indeed are left holding the "empty" bag....pretty much during the whole process. None of this is Maggie's fault really. All the various factors involved just didn't let the "experiment" work after all.
  18. Half time: This merry go round of aggressive play, then sleeping at the wheel.......painful. Get on the boards and rebound. Two starting guards with no points. Wake up girls! Our 3's are keeping us in control, but don't mortgage the farm on 3's 2nd half upcoming
  19. Watched the Creighton-UConn game this morning on YouTube. (1-4-24) UConn blasted the jays by about 40+ last night on Creighton's floor. Just ran them into the ground. Creighton had about a record crowd, but were silenced by end of 1st half. It was women against the girls. UConn really exposed Creighton's weaknesses. (If that's a word), in about every way possible. Paige is back, full speed. She shot I think it was 60% and can shoot any shot. Very complete player. Really makes UConn go. UConn's defense was an exhibition in how it's done. Their offense is fun to watch. Everyone could do about anything needed. Excellent ball handling, passing, and movement on the floor. So if your not a Creighton fan, you can enjoy that one. But the big new is UConn's loss of Aubrey Griffin to knee injury. May be full season loss.
  20. Happy 2024 !! Been part of club team play and development of kids in athletics quite a bit. Just don't think college freshman burnout's an issue... hardly at all. These are kids (coming into college) that have played sports for years probably before they ever got here. They were more than likely were the best on their team(s) and were on the floor 95% of the game time. They love it. College freshman have to get used to the pace, and intensity of college ball of course. Mentality and physically. Some must adjust. Sitting the bench is a much bigger issue. Mendelson is a good example. Leigha (sp) Brown another. There's many more examples of Nebraska players that were only here a couple of years. In Potts case, she's probably not playing too much. A physical breather now and then is needed for sure. Next year and beyond she'll be stronger physically, will need to handle more play because of up coming team attrition alone. (We're losing about half the team in next two years) Moving on to Wisky, Indiana, and the B1G grind. GBR
  21. Very well played. Nice win !! A few hitches here and there, but they played hard every minute . Really nice...deserved win ! Focus focus. focus ! What a difference it makes. One of our better games we've played for a while.
  22. That is kind of a pattern. Not just with Potts. It really "bugs" me when a player or a group of players are pretty much on fire, scoring well, controlling the game well...and they get pulled. .........More of the same conversation about substitution patterns. ( I know they can't all play... all the minutes)
  23. Horrible percentages shooting. And yes, need to actually see what was going on.
