Which Sophomore has a "Breakout" year?
MandRHusker replied to Handy Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think it will be MJ. Watson will have a great year and will be one of our leading scorers. But I already expect this to happen. So, in the definition of a "break out year" I choose MJ. Some would say he broke out last year by playing extensively, but let's face it, he played because of dire need not because he was ready. This year he is ready. He has reshaped his body and will play the position where he is most comfortable. I expect 12 and 6 production from MJ this year plus solid defense. -
Hmmm, that seems like a smaller school close to home that I wondered if AW-III might head to, eventually. Interesting. I actually hope AW-III lands at Richmond, and does well. He seemed like a really nice kid who has aspirations that might be above his level of play, but at least the guy can dare to dream. Guess we'll find out the date of registration with the nature of AW-III's previous "transactions." It's not AWIII's aspiratirations on display here. Helicopter Dad wants his payday from the NBA.

I read that MJ is now 6'9" and has gained considerable good weight. I'm not sure we really need another center.

Last year's squad versus this year's squad.
MandRHusker replied to khoock's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
At the very least, Horne's body seems more B1G-ready than Morrow's was this time last year. Actually, will Morrow ever weigh more than Horne? Morrow is listed at 225 and Horne is listed at 220. Plus I'm sure Morrow is significantly stronger at this point in their careers.Morrow is actually the heaviest player on the team aside from Jordy. Horne is a strong rebounder who also has a fairly refined set of offensive skills. He and Morrow will compliment each other nicely. -
Good point, depending if he ate a brownie that day or not.

"Hes already gained 12 lbs since getting there almost to his goal weight of 220" 220 - 12 = 208 lbs

Roby is already here.

Jordy Tshimanga - Freshman Play Poll
MandRHusker replied to MitchMcGaryMunchies's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Watching Jordy's cureent film there is no way he plays 15 minutes a game, much less over 20. He will be good but needs quite a bit of work, big and tall or not. I hope I am wrong but will be surprised if I am. -

+1 That's what we need. If Jordy does that, he'll see more PT, and he'll score more off putbacks and occasional feeds. I just don't think he's a Maric-type player who will merit playing time early based on his offensive skills. And while I may be more cautious of Jordy's chances in freshman year, he has an NBA frame and will get every chance to develop. I believe it will all come down to foot speed. Is he quick enough to defend B1G centers? Height and weight are one thing but quickness will be the deciding factor IMHO. Guess we won't know until next fall. -
So here is a conspiracy theory for you. There is a big man grad transfer waiting to announce his transfer to Nebraska, but only if AWIII returns. See, a big man needs a 3 point sharp shooter to keep the middle open. So this theoretical big man will decide where he goes after AWIII announces his intentions. Now understand, this is not inside information, just a theory. Regardless, my reputation for inside info must be ruined after passing on a tidbit about a grad big to be announced the end of April.

Should Nick Fuller's role change?
MandRHusker replied to big red22's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Gil takes and hits 3s well, just don't know the % of makes. His shot is not as smooth as White's but he makes em pretty well from what I have seen. And with his athleticism he can create his own shot from anywhere. -
Jonesie, you know I respect your basketball opinion greatly so this isn't an attack. It's more of a question. And the question is: Do you really think it's all that far-fetched for a somewhat heralded true freshman center to beat out a fairly unheralded sophomore power forward who won the center job over a somewhat unheralded sophomore center a year ago? In other words, Jacobson came in as a true freshman (who wasn't even a center) and beat out a sophomore center (who, granted, only played like 30 minutes the year before). Who's to say that Jordy can't do the same thing? Jordy certainly has a size advantage. Significant size advantage. We'll see, but I don't think it's too far-fetched. It might be different if our returning starter was a 6"10" upper classman, but he's not. You didn't ask me Norm but I will answer anyway. The issues I see with your question/answer is twofold: 1. You are comparing Jordy to a freshman Michael Jacobson. I fully expect MJ to weigh in the 230s this next season and to be noticeably stronger guarding bigs in the paint. 2. Playing at the D1 level is more than body size. It takes quickness, ball handling and a knowledge of the game I don't believe Jordy possess yet. Somebody said to expect Jordy to be a sub for MJ with 5 & 5 numbers his first year. I buy into this projection.

Going after Jordy or did they just find out he committed to the Huskers? -

There must be more going on behind the scenes than we know. It reminds me of Chukwu last season. As it turns out, Burno was offering to pay Chukwu and when TM found out about Burno's bad recruiting habits he asked Burno to move on. Chukwu then found his payday at Syracuse. Connecting a few dots here, but not many. -
I was told specifically a big man transfer. But it was 2nd hand from a credible source and I'm wondering if there was confusion between the original party and my source. I have no idea. But I'm still optimistic!
-
So we have four moves on the table. James Palmer, Jordy Tshimanga, mystery graduate transfer big man and Andrew White. I'm including AWIII in recruiting as his return next year will make as big or bigger difference to our season as a prize recruit. So what is your prediction in each case? Below are mine. 1. James Palmer will choose to be N 2. Jordy Tshimanga will choose to be N 3. Mystery Graduate Transfer Big Man will appear soon. Even though he may be mistaken, I am sticking with my source who said one would be announced the end of April. 4. Andrew White III will return for his senior year at Nebraska! With these developments the Huskers will return to the NCAAs and win their firstgame ever! How is that for Sunday morning koolaid?

Does Arizona have an opening for Jordy? Does he even have a committable offer from them? This is the only one I'm concerned with. Hopefully he decides to be N soon after he arrives home. -

On Rivals I asked Robin if he had viewed enough film or heard enough from inside the program to understand the level of contribution Jordy could make this upcoming season. We've all seen tall, big guys who end up doing nothing due to slow foot speed or lack of skills. Robin's opinion was that Jordy would contribute significantly from day 1. Good news, if we can get him! -

Really frustrating, yes, but there's still a chance. I don't know why this decision is so hard for him either. One article I think Robin had on him early on he specifically spelled out that he wants to go to a place where he has the best chance to play right away. The mysterious delay reminds me of recruits I've followed in the past who were either having grade or transcript issues. I don't have any information to support this, just a feeling. -
I'd take that group in a heartbeat Norm.
