2023 SG Parker Friedrichsen -> Wake Forest...for now
busticket replied to royalfan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I would still love to see Parker in Husker red. -
Gotta haves, portal or otherwise

I want Kevin Cross to portal back in to take Walker’s spot next year. He must come full circle. Sallis would slot into Bando’s role pretty well. Very curious to see if he leaves Gonzaga after this year. Like Norm said, we really could use a strong point guard. Sam is decent but we really could use a guy who is a plus ball handler and facilitator. Sam is a good physical mismatch at the position but I really love PG’s to be like Glynn Watson. -
Wilcher and Breidenbach are incredibly frustrating to me. What I see are two very low BB IQ players who absolutely kill us most games anymore. Sam Hoiberg should get all of CJ’s minutes until he gets out of whatever is wrong with him. We were +11 with him because he played smart basketball and busted his butt, despite his physical limitations. Maybe he will be this year’s Trueblood. I was a bit surprised looking at the final box score. Northwestern barely shot better than us by the end of the game. We lost the game on the boards. Breidenbach had zero boards in his 11 minutes. I would honestly rather see Oleg out there than Wilhelm at this point in the season.

- The problem with this is coaches aren’t stupid. If you have bad shooters out there, a good coach will dare that player to shoot. Just because the guy may put the shot up doesn’t mean they are going to focus on him defensively. They want that player to shoot. -

I wish the coaching staff would limit what certain players are doing in certain situations. It drives me nuts when players are allowed to not play to their strengths. A few examples: - Wilcher should be very limited in the ball handling department. He should have the green light on open threes and quick lay ups on back doors. When the defense recovers on the back door play and he tries work it, nothing good ever happens. He should be told to immediately get the ball back to the perimeter. He is a turnover machine so he really should be treated like a catch and shoot player. - Wilhelm should be allowed one three point shot. If it goes in, he can try again. If it looks bad…no more attempts that game. He hasn’t earned the right to keep firing them up. - Sam is similar but I’d let him take 2 attempts. If neither drops, same deal as Wilhelm. - I have similar feelings towards Gary and Bando on offense except they bring so much to the defensive end I almost feel like you live with it with those two guys. We really only have two three point shooters that are pretty good. We are at our best when we let Walker facilitate from the high post. There were some possessions today where he never touched the ball. Penn State was weak in the post. They had nobody that could stop Walker. This is a team we can beat…we need to get them at home. -
At 18 game mark - are we where we thought we would be?

Haven’t you heard? Year 4 is the new year 1! Seriously…I’m with you…if this was truly year 1 I’d be thrilled. It is frustrating that it took until year 4 for Fred to figure out he needed hard working, team first guys. Stars are great but if you don’t do the little things you will have losing basketball. All that said, I am glad Fred finally started recruiting lunch pail types of players. To me that is the type of player/team that will succeed here. -

We currently have the #1 SOS in the country according to ESPN. Based on what we had on our roster going into this season, 9-9 at this point isn’t bad at all. If we can get to 15 it is a heck of a job. That Gary injury absolutely sucks…. -
I wanted us to have a weak non con this year just to get some easy wins/ confidence for our guys. They did pretty well all things considered.

MSU looked like a top 10 team tonight. Their defense was suffocating. They wouldn’t lose to very many teams the way they played tonight. I don’t expect this team to win a lot on the road, especially against good teams. We need to do our damage at home. This is a game you toss out and forget about it. Focus on the next game. -
Just to spread a little more holiday cheer: Eastern Illinois shocks Iowa on road as 31.5-point underdog Not positive this is a good thing as we play Iowa next, but always fun to watch Iowa stink it up. (I didn’t see this posted anywhere else so sorry it was already out there somewhere)

He basically beat us single handedly. Sigh….

Tominaga is our best big shot maker. Perhaps it is related to playing on the world stage. I am glad we have one more year of him. -

Great effort by the team. I won’t go on about the refs, but if we keep playing like this we are going to do some damage. I think we have only had one game this year where Keisei and Wilcher both shot well (BC). They are the only two legit shooters we have. When they are both hitting we can give anyone fits. Heck, we did that today without Wilcher hitting. Time to focus on KSU. Shake it off boys!!!! -

That’s fair. Part of me thinks they kind of coasted into the game assuming they would win without too much problem. Heck, earlier in the season I think everyone was expecting a blood bath. After playing Texas, Arizona and Arkansas tough, we probably looked like a breather game. In sports when you go into a game and you aren’t properly focused, teams can’t just turn it on when they realize they are in a dog fight. And as soon as we punched them in the mouth it was on. I love the makeup of this team, especially with Walker back. (Okay, I do wish we had a Glynn Watson-esque PG) -

Last years Big East defensive POY no less. Walker is a man and took it to him. He put on a clinic on how to attack a shot blocker. ooops…just echoed a previous post. That’s what I get for not reading the whole thread before posting! -

That was extremely curious with Shareef. The only thing Mitchell does at a high level is apply pressure on the other team’s ball handlers. That happens to be our Achilles heel. Normally McDermott is a strong game planner. -

He was keeping the tradition alive of some guy on the other team that normally does nothing going off on us. -

Yeah. I don’t get why everyone was so worried before the season started! (Kidding! Kind of….) -

Walker is severely underrated….even by our fan base. Walker is strong as an ox and extremely crafty. A savvy veteran that plays within himself. He would play meaningful for anyone in the country. He is one of my all time favorite players. I am thrilled he has a win of this magnitude under his belt. He deserves it. -
Was Mike Daum at that time? From what I recollect, he really really turned it around after he got to college.
