Nebraska (17-8) vs. Minnesota (14-11) Game Thread
Dean Smith replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I don't think it is close. This years team beats the 2014 team 8 out of 10 games. The only chance they have is if Petteway goes really off but this team is too balanced. And a lot more fun to watch. -
I keep reading people say, “They don’t look at this or they don’t look at that,” “they only look at ... and .....” I don’t think anybody on this board has been in the room when seedings are made so you’re taking them at their word when say those things. I believe that means people should n’t talk with so much certitude about what criteria is actually used.

Gill has to shoot better, meaning the way he was a couple weeks ago, for us to reach our potential. I don't think Allen is ready to start and one of our strengths is our length which we downplay with Allen and Watson together. I like Gill coming off the bench because we have enough scorers in the starting lineup. When he comes off the bench it gives us a scorer on the floor as some go to the bench. Regardless of who starts, we need those three to hit some threes.

I don't think I've started more than three threads since I've been on the board but even though it's usually scary, I started thinking tonight. We do feel snake bit as Nebraska basketball fans and rightfully so. Michigan is in a worse place then we are and you know what a lot of their fans are thinking right now. I guess we just have to go win the B1G tourney. They think that way because Michigan basketball has done that before. We are worried about the bubble and how close we are to the bubble and what everyone else in the country is doing and this matrix and that matrix. I don't think we are going to win out and get to 23 wins but we are good enough to do that. We probably aren't going to win the B1G tourney but we are good enough to do that too. I'm biased but I think we are much more likely to do it than Michigan. It's a tournament so we don't have to beat all of Michigan, Michigan St., Ohio State and Purdue. We will probably have to beat two of them. We trounced one of them and could of/should of beat two of the others. And as upsets happen, we might not even have to play two of them. As a matter of fact, I think we are more likely to win the tourney than to win out. I'm not going to get out in front of myself and not just as a Nebraska basketball fan, I am just naturally pessimistic. So we probably aren't going to win out and we probably aren't going to win the B1G tourney. But we are good enough to do both.

Iowa (11-11) vs. Nebraska (15-8) Game Thread

We seem to have journeyed far from Nebraska basketball but that's a spurious correlation. My example would relate better to the hypochondriac who read a couple of medical websites and feel they are ready to diagnose major diseases. Your example could be improved if we change the writing of legislative bills since that is not political but legal expertise, to the knowledge of political philosophy. You don't need to know how to build the gym to teach basketball. And yes, I am also annoyed by people who want to "express" their political leanings but their knowledge of political ideology is so truncated that you end up having to explain the underpinnings of either Edmund Burke or Jean Jacques Rousseau's rationalities (depending on what side of the spectrum they believe they are on), and try to explain to them in the classical sense the "whys" of what they say they believe. Just like on this board in those cases I overwhelmingly just roll my eyes, say nothing and let them spout off. Bottom line is that I am too easily annoyed. That is no one's fault but my own. -

Past history has shown that posters (many times the same poster under different names) that have created an account and their first posts are calling out players or coaches have turned out to be trolls or not who they say they are. If you’re a real person and not a troll I jumped the gun. But if your first post is calling out a coaching decision that happened two weeks ago that has been rehashed and discussed over and over again... I usually ignore that type of thing as a “whatever” that’s their opinion. I probably responded that way because I rescently allowed myself to be sucked into a trolls post about hoodies on warmups of all things. So that’s my problem not a reflection on you at all. My posts are usually on the technical or tactical side of the game or as a sunshine pumper calling out people who I think jump the gun or go too far in negativity. I have to admit to an impatience with people that would have no idea on how to teach a jump stop calling out professional coaches on such complicated strategic decisions like playing time. Time will tell whether your a troll or a real poster. I welcome new real posters. I will just slip away now and wait to how things turn out while I root for Nebraska basketball. -
Nebraska on the Selection Committee Board
Dean Smith replied to hhctony's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
There’s what the say they do and what really happens in the room. Now I’ve never been in the room when it happens but there always seems to be some matchups, usually second round that seem to be more than random. And there are always teams that stack up very well based on what they say they are looking at that don’t get in and usually some power 5 conference schools or some that have compelling stories that have lesser numbers but manage to get in. Computers don’t make the picks humans do so I think, for better or worse, some of those things that arent supposed to count end up counting a lot. -

Here’s my take on it and since I’m not on the bench I’m just as likely to be wrong as right. My impression of James that night was he was starting to play for himself and not the team, hence the benching. With Jack on the floor they make it back for overtime and should have won in regulation. (Roby was fouled trying to set the last pick). I might of put James back on during OT but if he was set for selfish play, you send him a real bad message putting him back in for overtime. Meaning we have rules and standards until we need to win and then we have no consequences. If my outside view happens to be right, then obviously James has responded better than anyone could have hoped for. Since then he has been one of the best players in the league period. Again I aknowledge I’m just guessing here but I think it was a case of losing the battle in order to win the war. -

We will have to disagree. If your first post is whining about something that happened two weeks ago, that appears to be trolling to me. I have more of a problem when people are offended whenever someone disagrees with them and always immediately gets snarky. -

Knee jerk is in my vocabulary. Is sarcasm in yours? I was implying he was a troll just trying to stir the pot. Kind of like your response to me. -

Joined the board yesterday to add this? That seems like a knee jerk reaction. Miles cant be slow to react to the rotation. He’s the coach. He makes the rotation so that’s what you would call the action and your emotional response would be the reaction. -
I don't have mine set up that way. You can set your preferences from trackpad in the system preferences.
-
Shift-Command-3 takes a shot of the whole screen and Shift-command-4 allows you to set the parameters of what you want on the screen. A circle with cross will show up and I have my trackpad set up to hold the left click down and move the cross with the trackpad You will hear a camera sound and the picture should just show up on your desktop.

Brady Heiman HAS to redshirt and when he plays he won't be a traditional center.

Current Husker Most Likely To Play In The NBA
Dean Smith replied to hhcdave's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's just an opinion but I don't think Terran is/was better than Palmer. I would rather have Palmer on my team. -
Great exercise. To each their own but I probably won't have enough time to read this thread. I have some mousetraps to check around the house. What makes that task similar to reading this thread is that after checking a couple of traps I can't even feel the cheese let alone taste it.
-
Did you watch him play? He was not good tonight. You sit him and switch to the zone and they bring us back. It’s a tough decision. Do you go back to your regular guy or stick with who brought you all the way back? I think Palmer’s poor play to that point made the decision. We are not close without Glenn, but he did exactly what the announcing crew was ripping on Penn State for - hero ball. No hero’s for Nebraska tonight.

They weren't the most polished teams (I'm trying to be diplomatic) but coming from 20 points down make for an exciting game.

Rumour du jour: Possible Jordy Transfer
Dean Smith replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think we are arguing semantics. A 5 to me is a low post player. If people watch this they will see all of the positives and good things he can do, and there were obviously a lot. But you will see that when he scores they are not from a low post position where he is using a post move. He rarely even works to establish a low post position. You will also see how he is moved off the block and how his shots are affected by stronger but much shorter players. He is dominant on the class B level. He NEEDS to gain and get MUCH stronger to play at the D1 level. So I am saying he can be good but there are some basic things he needs to take care up in a redshirt season before he is ready. I am definitely rooting for him because he is going to play for my favorite team. That's why I'm rooting for Jordy until things are final. -
Rumour du jour: Possible Jordy Transfer
Dean Smith replied to hhcmatt's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I like a four man or five man motion and defensively I had post guard points and wing front posts. When I talk 5, for me, that means someone offensively he can go to work in the low post. Roby guards 5’s now and I think eventually Heiman could do the same as he fills out. All my original comment was that before he can play anywhere, he has to get heavier and much stronger. As for York, Snodgrass yes, but also Otte and the younger Cast kid were also able to displace him from the low block. -

And those were the disparaging comments I was referring to. You haven't said anything else that I would disagree with, but the way your phrased it at first was very negative and insulting. I hope he will cool down and stay. If not we have to move on. And it's supposed to be the youth who get angry and make bad decisions. -

First off, 6'10" and only 200 lbs. He is not a 5 and would love to have him prove me wrong, but he will never be a 5. He is a very good shot blocker, showing great timing, but against drastically shorter players. I have not seen him play during the summer when the competition might be larger. I know he struggled matching up to York's 6'3 players physically. He is not a skilled post player. His strength is his mobility and a decent midrange shot. I've not really seen him establish any kind of post move, he just tries to turn and shoot over shorter players. I would think he has a better chance at developing the three and using his mobility to face up or get offensive rebounds then he ever has of becoming a real solid low post player.
