I'm not really sure what that is supposed to mean but I talked to a kid Jordy dunked on Thursday night.
-
I know for a fact he played pick up ball at the rec on Thursday night.
-
I'm not sure this qualifies as inside information but I talked to a father whose son was at the rec center when six of the Huskers came in to play. They split themselves 3 and 3 and filled in with 4 non-players. So this is a one-time picture of their performances and may not be a reliable sample size to be extrapolated into long-term results. I will list them in reverse order of how they impressed on this day. Malcolm Laws - was outplayed by a couple of the non-players Antone Gill - Showed some good handles but appeared to be a shadow of his former athletic self. Jordy Tshimanga - In his defense he was described as "pretending to be a guard." He was guarding a 6'5ish non-player who repeatedly dropped threes on him as he stayed in the lane and then would be unmercifully trash talked by McVeigh. When he missed a jump hook Jack said something like "He has you clamped down too." At that point the non-player spoke for the first time and said, "Clamps." Which he then immediately regretted I'm sure. Jody took him to the block on the next possession, dropped stepped him, and when the 6'5 kid tried to go up with him got thrown across the gym as Jordy did a Shaq chin up on the rim with knees up and everything. It was described as way more athletic a move than anything they had ever seen him do before, very explosive. Jack McVeigh - Did a lot of good things handling, defending, passing, rebounding, and the best trash talker, but shot poorly from behind the line. Evan Taylor - He was guarded by Gill and many times doubled by Roby and they couldn't stop him. He repeatedly beat them off the dribble and finished at the rim. He even knocked down a couple of threes. Roby - Shot well but was most impressive as a freak of an athlete. Showed good handles and there were multiple occasions he looked like he was going in for the floater but somehow managed to float all the way to the rim and hammer it. They said he took off so far out they thought there was no way he could get to the rim from there only to see him flush it again. So there you have it. A picture into one day of pick-up ball by six Huskers. Take it for what it is.

Actually the weight program at Nebraska will make you faster and more explosive.......

who will be the starting 2 guard on opening night?
Dean Smith replied to FredsSlacks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
But you did say, "I don't tend to get overly concerned with the distinction between shooter & scorer as long as the "team concept" allows for good blend of scoring & defensive proficiency in totality. I'm not one to be too caught up in analytics of a long two versus a three as some might be (for instance)." My point is you need to be concerned about the distinction. What you say you are concerned about (Offensive plus defensive proficiency) doesn't happen on it's own. If you aren't concerned about the details, then the big picture falls apart. -

But there is a huge difference between shooters and scorers. If scorers settle for jump shots then they probably aren't scoring as much as you would like. Too many long two's lead to a lower percentage shooting and fewer balls in the basket and no reward of an extra point when they do go in. The details do matter. It makes the difference between being consistently good or hit and miss. It's the difference between a poor season and a good season or the difference between a good season and great season. -

Petteway was a scorer but not a shooter. It's a thing. Lots of guys are scorers without being a consistent outside threat. -
People are already counting Riley as fired. I get people wanting change and wanting things for football to be like the good ole days. First it's a different era. We aren't going back to the good ole days but that doesn't mean we can't be better and more consistent. Second, even understanding the "why's" people have, I can't show enthusiasm for anyone getting fired. I'm glad Miles is here but I felt bad for Doc just on a human level. Not here but I've seen "fuck ya!" Tweeted about today's firing. I'm not superior to anyone so that's why I find it hard to celebrate other's failures. I have to admit I'm sure my feelings on this has something to do with being in that same situation myself. I personally have no idea how well the job of AD was being performed. I have heard high school football coaches that have dealings with Riley involving recruiting and their statement was, "I hope Riley is here forever." Head coaches are responsible for their program. The buck stops at their desk and they get paid very well to deal with that responsibility. But there are things out of their control. The backbone of the team should be your 4th & 5th year seniors and the redshirt juniors. Those would be Bo's recruits. Look at the roster to see how many of those guys are even still On the team. Bo had strentghs but recruiting wasn't one of them.

I'm not saying he's not going to play but if you watched the video the only basketball related play they show him completing was setting a screen, and it was an illegal screen at that.
-
I could try to explain what doubts I have and why but the time for that is over. He has signed for Nebraska and regardless of first impressions, he is a Husker now. That means I am rooting for him to be successful for himself and to further the program. End of my contribution to this thread. Good luck to Brady and of course, Go Big Red.

I'm not trying to be contrary but from my point of view as someone who did coach for awhile, when someone gets T'ed up quite often it doesn't mean they care. It usually means they are selfish and can't put team before self. I don't know about this kid specifically but that's been the general pattern I've seen.
-
I never saw Daum play. I've seen this kid plus what I've heard about attitude still leaves me with I don't get it.
-
I just don't see it.
-
On scholarship or walk on? I don't ever remember seeing Nebraska offered.
-
I dont agree his inside game is not strong, I believe he just doesn't get the ball in the post enough. I think he has some of the best post moves on the team, using both hands around the hoop.

Do you have any idea what you mean by Mile's "coaching" isn't working because I don't? You don't like the way he teaches defensive rotations or the footwork he wants on jump shots? I would think coaching includes philosophy and rotation as well. Or maybe philosophy includes coaching. What is his philosophy? By not working well lately I take it you mean we had a losing season. What is your definition for the difference between team and program? And if Miles "took a different approach" how would you tell?

I don't know about it being people's love for soccer. Someone mentioned a Husker was wearing a soccer jersey and mere mentions such as that seems to set people off. Whether its mean or trying to have fun it seems to get a stronger negative reaction than most other things. I think that there are much fewer soccer conversation here than other distractions due to the overwhelmingly negative reaction. Maybe it's because Creighton plays soccer? As for keeping the board on topic, it seems to me that the "regulars" have the most off topic posts. We start game threads with a song for some reason? And this thread is titled "Offseason Potpourri". Can you be off topic with that title? Also when you are talking about diving I think basketball falls under the don't throw stones if you live in glass houses category. I love basketball, and particularly Nebraska basketball. That's why I read this site. Sometimes we get off topic and I usually just skim over those. And the diving thing is one reason I mentioned Messi.

A couple things. 1. Just because someone says it, doesn't make it so. 2. Who's the "best" will always be subject and you can't "prove" those things but sometimes make for fun discussions. 3. Not Googling anything here but based on just what I've heard and read I would say 80-90% of all talking heads/pundits still pick Messi as the best in the game. 4. I'm sure part of that and overwhelming why he is the more popular player has to do with the difference in Ronoldo & Messi's personality. HERE IS MY REAL QUESTION. On this board I've read about baseball, football, volleyball, songs, movies, food and what people think is wrong with Kidney. All of this seems to pass without much comment. But whenever anyone mentions the most popular game in the would people always respond with sarcasm and insults. I don't understand all the hostility. I find watching baseball like watching paint dry but if you want to talk about the Cubs or whatever is your team, knock yourself out. I'll just skip over those posts. I didn't like soccer when I didn't know anything about it. When I watched it I learned to really like it because I love basketball and they are tactically almost the same sport. If I had to do it again, I would have my high school teams play a lot of soccer in the offseason because you could legally be teaching basketball by teaching soccer concepts without violating any NSAA rules, and it's a great conditioner corresponding to basketball as well. I'm certainly not going to waste any time trying to convert anyone but why does soccer seem to bring out some much hostility in people? I brought up Messi because no matter what sport you are focusing on, whether he is the best or second-best right now, his ability to be a great teammate, very little ego, willing to sacrifice for teammates and team, constant effort when playing and work ethic on and off the field, is something all athletes in all sports should aspire to. To make it relative to this board, he is the antithesis of AWIII.
-
You're aware CR7 is having some tax problems as well? He's still playing for Argentina as well. Ronaldo is a great player but his arrogance and willingness to throw teammates under the bus are some of the reasons that Messi is still widely regarded by the soccer world as by far the best.
-
On the field, Leo Messi is everything right with sports. The best player in the world and the best teammate.

I watched Tai play for Golden State vs Philly last night in the Vegas league. He got in the start of the 2nd & 4th quarters getting maybe 10-12 minutes. Not really much of a run out. He didn't hurt the team but not many positives. I think he got one of everything. 1 rebound, 1 turnover, 1 assist (should of had 3 but players missed easy shots), 1 steal but 0-1 on the night with a badly missed three. He got the ball on the left baseline and started his bump/spin move baseline like he did for the Huskers so many times but once he beat his man instead of going to the basket he reversed out and passed the ball off. He played 90% of his time as the point but looked like they had him on a very short leash.
-
It is impossible to know if he would have different here at Nebraska with a better team and to be honest I've not seen him play since he left. So I don't know if he has adjusted his game. I tend to think that was his game and that was the player we needed him to be that year. I admit some of my opinion is purely based on asthetics. I prefer an offense that has a higher number of assists. To me that usually means you are getting easier shots. So I picked Talley over Petteway. I think he could create his own shot when needed and be more willing to fit into a pass first offence. And in case anyone cares I also took Diaz in the front court. I think Jordy has a shot to be that guy ( and hopefully should become that guy) but based on only his one year vs Brian's career I took Diaz. I personally feel if he had healthy feet it's quite likely he would have ended up with his jersey hanging in our rafters. .
-
Me for one. I never liked the way he played and the better team you have the less effective he becomes or he destroys the team.
-
It's been replaced by the jump hook which is waaaaay easier to teach and pick up.
-
The up and under is not a primary post move but a counter move. If you don't have any reason to step up then you have no ability to use the move. You first need to establish either a face up move or a Sikma move. When the defense takes away the move, the up and under becomes the counter.
