Pretty sure they were in on him already. You'd be delusional to think otherwise... You may want to read Robin's premium article on Aguek Arop before stepping out too far on this point -- it may depend on the definition of "in on." Pretty sure 9er is jackin' around w/ ya... hence the emoticon! Care to summarize the Arop piece, Swan? Ok . . . so I'm slow at catching a joke. Sorry about that, 9er. On the subject of the above posts, Robin said UNL and UNO were the only D1 teams "showing legitimate interest" before this past weekend.

My recollection from the end of last season on these younger players is this: 1. Tim Miles suggested that the best prospects in Nebraska are from the younger classes; 2. Some of these younger players were present at the Wisconsin game and expressed excitement about the Husker basketball program; and 3. Some if these younger players were on the sidelines at the football Spring Game like other recruits.

PG Kevin Dorsey from Virginia ...a 2015 Rivals Top 150
Swan88 replied to trickey's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Who exactly is your target audience for this post -- Bluejay fans? This has so much straw man in it that it easily could furnish the nests for 1,000 birds and still have some straw left over. Hmmmm . . . not sure what this response means -- but the sense of offense is abundantly clear. The prior post was intended in this fashion: "If the shoe fits, wear it; but if it doesn't, don't." Or, perhaps it would seem less offensive to some, if the last sentence were amended to read: "For those who fear, or are hoping for, signs of a Tim Miles demise . . . this isn't it." -
PG Kevin Dorsey from Virginia ...a 2015 Rivals Top 150

What??!! We might lose a recruit to Kansas??!!!! Oh horrors. Then let's pack it in now, fold up the tent, and call this recruiting class a lost cause. -
PG Kevin Dorsey from Virginia ...a 2015 Rivals Top 150
Swan88 replied to trickey's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Oh good grief. We lost out on a four star, while in his top 3. Minnesota graduates their point guard next year. We signed one in 2014. We are in on some better than ever recruits. For those who are hoping for signs of a Tim Miles demise . . . this isn't it. -
Gotta love this tweet from Coach Harriman: @chrisharriman24: Love getting to gyms early in the morning in July....you find out which kids love the game and which kids love the jersey! #AAU

Here is a blurb from a recent Brian Rosenthal article that quotes from Strength Coach Tim Wilson: Ayegba, who has a 7-foot-3 wing span, is working to improve his flexibility and mobility. "If we can get this ‘iron horse’ to move better,” Wilson said, "it could/should be interesting.”

Nice that Nebrasketball gets positive reactions from all visitors. However, would also like to know, (1) whether he received an offer or not, and (2) whether he is a first-priority or back-up plan.

I disagree as I have feeling we are going to land this kid. But don't we always seem to start strongs on kids but can never close on them. Such as Cornish and Deng Or . . . you mean "always" have trouble "closing" on kids like Petteway and Pitchford and Webster and Fuller?

Here is an AAU highlight video of MaCioTeague posted earlier this month. This video illustrates Kamdy's comparison of Teague with Cooke--nice catch on this comparison, Kamdy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?feature=player_detailpage&v=kgrzjFAt5Ss

Who knows where this recruit stands in the Tim Miles list of priorities--perhaps he is a top priority, but he might also be a plan B or C? But Tim Miles seems to be developing a niche with high-academic-achiever recruits. Michael Jacobson's top three scholarship choices right now are Nebraska, Harvard and Princeton, according to Robin Washut. Terin Smith is a high school valedictorian. Andrew White III is a high-academic-achiever, as is Shavon Shields. How cool is that!!

Here is a June 11 Rivals report on Ellenson--note the "five-star" reference at the end: CURRENT RANK: 56 How many big guys have shown more improvement than Ellenson? He has very good size, is a good athlete and rebounds at a very good clip. The biggest change for Ellenson has been markedly improved mobility and conditioning and there just aren't many bigs who can run with him for an entire game. His motor is non-stop and he has very good skill. He does settle for a few too many deep jumpers at times, but he looks like a safe bet for five-star status. If Ellenson is actually looking seriously at the Huskers, this development is a sign of huge progress by Tim Miles & Co. on the recruiting front.

Isaiah Austin Diagnosed with Career-Ending Condition
Swan88 replied to FredsSlacks's topic in College Basketball
Bad things happen to good people: "Isaiah Austin left Baylor to declare for this year's NBA Draft, but his basketball career will sadly end there. The center was diagnosed with a genetic disorder that won't allow him to continue playing basketball. Genetic testing for the draft discovered that Austin had Marfan syndrome, a disorder that affects connective tissue in the body. . . . basically, if Austin's heart experienced the rigors of an NBA season, he could die. He can no longer play basketball competitively." -
Not sure why Jay-backers feel the necessity for up-talking Patton on this Nebrasketball board. But here are a couple observation on the subject: 1. Looks like Tim Miles will let the Jays have this one without even the slightest competitive effort; and 2. A couple old adages appear to be pertinent here: (a) "You pay your money and take your chances," and ( "The hallmark of insecurity is bravado."

Here are some stats from this past season for Jon Octeus from the Colorado St. website: started 32 games; averaged 33.6 minutes per game; shot .406 from the floor, .355 from three, and .757 from the line; 73 assists with 39 turnovers; and 13.4 points per game

Alex Illikainen - PF - 2015 prospect -> Wisconsin
Swan88 replied to uneblinstu's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I dont know why its hard to get. There's hundreds of kids that transfer every year in high school basketball to improve their visibility or level of talent pool they play in. He will probably play against 50-60 kids in the next year in the Rivals 150 for the next couple classes. One thing to take into consideration in this transfer is the fact that Kenya Hunter is extremely close to the head coach at Brewster. This could very well be a great thing for NU. Thanks, Kamdy, for making the Kenya Hunter / Brewster connection. A most-interesting development. -
Gotta love this part of the article: Miles’ first words after seeing Hammond are still stuck in the mind of former Husker assistant Craig Smith . . . “Coach Miles blurted out, ‘I love him, and I want him in our program,’ ” said Smith . . . “Coach raved about him, saying he plays his rear end off and he’s 6-10 and diving on the floor and rebounding everything in sight and he blocks shots, runs well and is wide-shouldered. “He’s a rare breed these days — a big man who loves physicality.”

Gotta love this Tim Miles comedy from the article: “When we do team-group work, we’ll work on specialty things, like whether there are new things on the screen-and-roll or post defense. Maybe we’ll try a tricky thing on offense, like throwing it inside on occasion so we aren’t surprised to try it during the season.’’

Don't fret the arms race. We not only have the Vault (perhaps the best home-court advantage in the B1G) and the practice facility (perhaps the best facility in the region, college or pro) . . . but we also have Tim Miles. Of all we have, Tim Miles is the trump card--no one else has anything close to a Tim Miles.

Glynn Watson's offers, according to Rivals and ESPN and 247 Sports, are from Nebraska, Creighton, Purdue, Penn St., Marquette, Iowa and DePaul. So, if he is a top-70 and four-star recruit, why don't his offers include something closer to the likes of Louisville and Kansas and Michigan St. and Michigan and Wisconsin and Ohio St. and UConn?

The college athlete gets "nothing"? That's false!!! Room, board, tuition, books, medical assistance, a degree (if he/she performs properly), etc. I can speak from personal experience that such benefits are a long, long, long way from "nothing." Perhaps the college athlete could or should get more. But to call a hundred thousand dollars of benefits (perhaps less in some contexts but dramatically more in others) is simply a falsehood.

Thanks, Jimmy. On the subject of academics, I heard an interesting perspective a number of years ago from Lee Roy Selmon (now deceased) when he served as athletic director at University of South Florida--as impressive a speaker as he was a football player, by the way. The essence of what he said is this: student-athletes who graduate tend to hold, in later years, a highly-positive view of their collegiate experiences; while those who do not graduate tend to hold a highly-negative view of their collegiate experiences and tend to believe that they were improperly used and abused by the system.

We finished at fourth place in one of the best conferences in the Country, and someone suggests we haven't been anywhere yet? That suggestion seems reminiscent of a couple lines from the end of a classic / high-brow movie: "When are we ever going to catch a break?" and "The town is back that way!"

Are you getting to any Husker practices these days, Norm?
