Heard McGraw is stepping down at Notre Dame.

http://www.espn.com/high-school/girls-basketball/recruiting/rankings/_/class/2020 I'm not sure if this fits in with a previous thread so I decided to start a new one. I had not looked at the rankings on ESPN until this morning (for the class of 2020). I notice that there are 2 young ladies from Nebraska that made the top 100: #54 Nyayongah Gony from Lincoln HS (committed to Miami, 6-3 F) and #67 Maddie Krull from Millard South (committed to South Dakota, 5-9 PG). Krull actually comes in a few spots higher than Emily Ryan out of Kansas whom I believe we were recruiting heavily until she committed to Iowa State (although there probably isn't much difference once you get out of the top 20 on these rankings). I seem to recall discussion about Gony last season but I don't recall if anyone ever mentioned Krull. We sure could use a PG and the fact we had one in-state makes me think there should have at least been a conversation with her. Maybe there was and she just wasn't interested? Gony's athleticism is something we could definitely use and a solid PG is something this team has desperately needed for the past 4 years. In a state that doesn't produce a lot of DI basketball players, I would like to see NU hang onto more of them (or I suppose they could always go to Creighton, but I'd rather that they commit to NU).

Maybe she likes our ag program?

I think she’s pretty athletic but has been bitten by the injury bug a few times. Sure would be nice to have her back. It also looks like she had a pretty good freshman year at Cal and then all the injuries hit. Hope she becomes a Husker!
-
I’m more than happy to have her join us! I like the part where it says she is athletic.
-
At least she didn't wind up at Iowa! From her bio: "She chose Nebraska over Xavier, Belmont, Western Michigan, Wright State, Indiana State, Youngstown State, American and IUPUI."
-
Best of luck to Brown - she's one hell of a player! What are the odds she winds up at Notre Dame?

We should never lose a starter to an NAIA school even if it is her hometown. This just looks bad. And I have a bad feeling there might be another transfer or two.

It will be interesting to see what the NCAA does as far as granting additional eligibility to winter sports (I think it's a given that it will happen for spring sports, especially track and field because the outdoor season had not officially begun yet in most conferences). There is a lot being kicked around and nothing is official yet, but it sounds like they may be leaning toward giving current seniors another year as long as it is at the same institution. It would be easier for the NCAA to make this requirement because it will be easier to keep track of which schools get additional scholarships since many HS seniors have already signed LOI. It sounds like they would allow a current senior to transfer but unless the school they transfer to has extra scholarship money, they may have to pay their own way. My daughter was hoping to make it to NCAAs her final season, but the pandemic threw her and a lot of other kids a major curve ball by prompting the cancellation of the entire season. She has been interviewing for jobs (companies have switched to video interviews rather than fly her around), and she is also planning a wedding for next year. It is highly unlikely she will stay in school another year especially since she is graduating with her masters degree and there is no PhD business program for her to enroll in at USD. I imagine many many other kids are in very similar situations. I feel bad for HS juniors who were looking forward to putting in a good season for recruiting purposes this fall. I am wondering if the NCAA is going to have to allow additional scholarships for a while, because they basically gave every spring college athlete nationwide a redshirt year. Some won't use the additional year, but many will.

From the Concordia WBB team; https://www.1011now.com/content/sports/Barry-shows-compassion-during-crisis-568910301.html

Stick a fork in all winter and spring sports. Wish it didn’t end this way.

NAIA just cancelled
-
I'm not sure I see them cancelling the big dance. I think the NBA shut down until further notice because it is an Olympic year and they want to keep players healthy for that.
-
I’ve wondered about this as well. Will they even have the NIT tourneys this year?
-
She was one of two Jacks to make the Summit League all tourney team. The remaining three were Yotes.
-
I don’t know for sure but wasn’t she a walk-on for us? I’m assuming she wasn’t offered a schollie after the first year but maybe someone else has some other information. That game was a battle and I’m very happy the Yotes came out on top. Missed too many free throws at the end though. I think all 5 starters were in double digits.

I would like to see USD defeat the Jacks 3 times this season, but that’s a tall order. Jacks have everything to gain and nothing to lose in this game and being an in-state rival makes it a tough game anyway. Looks like Duffy is having an off game which I’m sure is the Jacks game plan. And hindsight is 20/20 - we should have kept RCJ. However, it worked out well for her. Played for conference championships and NCAA berth each year. Wish I could say the same for the Huskers.

I’m looking forward to having her on the court next season. She’s the only PG we have. I expect she will make some mistakes but I’m willing to give her a pass for next season since she didn’t play much this season coming off injury. Hopefully she will improve over the course of the season next year.

She’s 5-7 and I think that’s a legit 5-7 because she stands a bit taller than my daughter.
-
I always thought Grace Barry from Lincoln East was a pretty good PG. But she’s at Concordia in Seward working toward a second national title in her senior season.
-
I’m sure for some sports that is true. But I also feel that USD WBB would easily beat our Huskers, and SDSU would give them a run, and I’ve felt that way for the past 4 years. It’s easier with track and field because times are times, heights are heights, and distances are distances no matter what conference you are in.
-
This. I’ve often wondered why we let RCJ go when she seemed to be the only true PG we had. I could understand it if we had an amazing PG that was coming into the program, but we didn’t. USD steals kids from Nebraska in many sports frequently. And many of them do well. Maybe I’m biased because my kid is one of those kids and had she gone to NU she would be on their all time top 10 list. However, we knew she wouldn’t have gotten the coaching or development that she has had at USD.

I still say since we don't play good defense, we need to have our top scorers start the game, and I'm definitely talking about Brown.
