I could see this being a situation where she goes somewhere and plays both sports her freshman year and then her sophomore year she picks one to focus on exclusively. I just feel that in this day and age, it is extremely difficult to play both VB and basketball at a DI school and be successful in both, successful in the classroom, and not have your body fall apart from the strain of two demanding sports in consecutive seasons.

Not sure. My kid is a thrower - seems like most of her injuries are to the arm, shoulder, and back. I haven’t heard of any of the runners on her team having this issue but I imagine it’s possible with distance runners especially. My husband is in exercise physiology and he just told me that it can happen to anyone.

I agree. Sounds like her first surgery was last August. Then the pain came back in the second half of the season. Maybe they feel comfortable that the second surgery will do the trick? I just don’t know. It’s the type of thing that I think coaches might shy away from during the recruiting process.

I don’t usually beg - but PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE come to Nebraska!!!
-
I’m sure it is but I’ve been to small town Nebraska HS venues that were better than the NDSU outdoor track facility.

We were there for Summit League Outdoor Track and Field Championships a few years ago which took place in early May. I was impressed with the city of Fargo. The weather cooperated while we were there so we were lucky. I didn’t see any of the other athletic facilities while we were there but I have heard they are very nice. Considering the success of their track program, their outdoor facility was seriously lacking - one of the worst I have been to.

Those are some ccccooooolllllddddd winters in Fargo.

In the past 10 years, how many D1 athletes have successfully played both VB and Bball? I think there was that gal from BYU a few years ago, but I can't think of anyone else. I think it would be very very difficult to do, unless you played VB for a school that has little shot at post-season play and then maybe a better shot at post-season for basketball (or vice versa).
-
Maybe we can at least get her for VB.

the Final Four teams and the near future...

For me personally, not at all. She dropped 40+ lbs and has become a much better player. I also get the feeling that she has matured quite a bit. She has put herself in position to be drafted to the WNBA. -
Now that Baylor won, Mulkey can burn that outfit.

I know we missed the senior leadership a year ago, but I wonder if we would have been a bit stronger if Blackburn has been able to keep playing. She had fire and attitude and I really missed seeing her on the court.

Did Nebraska try to recruit any of the Arens girls from Crofton?

Michigan really pissed that away at the end. I really thought when they had the ball with about 45 seconds left they should have gone for a quick score so that they could get the ball back. They chose to run it into the shot clock but did score to go up by 1. But then a stupid mistake on defense and then another on offense cost them the game. SMH.

It’s not just ball handling turnovers though. We have some really bad passes that are head scratchers.
-
I think we have several fantastic players, but our turnovers are just mind boggling to me.

Taylor should not be handling the ball up the court.

And her 175 mark came as a sophomore in HS, which is a sick number to have as a sophomore. I was talking to a former Olympian who is a throws coach at a D1 school and he was salivating at the thought of recruiting her, right up until I told him she was committed to NU VB. I still think she throws disc for NU in the spring - she can wear a belt to help her back if she needs to. I will be interested to see her progression in this track season. If she keeps improving like she has been, she has a shot at making Olympic trials in 2020.

She throws discus over 175 feet, which I believe puts her in second place on the all time HS top 10 in Nebraska. I would think she’s more of a lock for VB and then track and field, but not basketball. Her discus talent is enough to take her to the NCAA track and field championships now - so I suspect Pepin will bend over backwards to make it possible for her to throw for outdoor track.

Is this the same crew that cost us the Michigan game last year?

Either Maryland is super strong, we are super weak, or a little of both. They seem to be able to muscle their way around, we cannot.
