  1. Brown should have been a starter for a long while. If she transfers, it’s on the staff.
  2. It’s actually SDSU shooting in the UND court.
  3. That’s the thing - I was expecting a solid team this season because we had our core returning and the sophomore class was more experienced and a solid class to begin with, plus the addition of Bourne and the other freshman. We also had the European trip over the summer to help get a head start on things. Why aren’t we in the top half of the conference looking at an NCAA bid?
  4. Sorry to disappoint - I don't follow men's basketball. Let me backtrack - I haven't followed men's basketball since Piatkowski was one of my students at UNL back in the day.
  5. https://pgcbasketball.com/ I know of a Nebraska girl that attended this in HS - maybe not this exact one, but I think it was referred to as Point Guard University. And she is an excellent PG for her college team.
  6. And playing some games in those areas would give us exposure to potential recruits.
  7. We could have a pretty decent non-con schedule that doesn't require a ton of traveling. We will always have Creighton on our schedule, then maybe pick up one of the OK schools and either KState or ISU, then one of the top Summit teams (USD or SDSU). Drake or that mid-major Missouri school that is ranked (I can never remember which one it is). Then maybe a holiday tourney somewhere that we can play against a PAC-12 school and some other major conference. I suppose it boils down to money and schedules.
  8. Oh, I'm sure. I'm still butt hurt about Texas joining the Big 8 to become the Big 12! Guess I was thinking along the lines of Big 8 schools (but not Kansas, they don't seem to be too great anymore). Maybe OK, OK State, ISU, possibly KState.
  9. Yes. SDSU is a bit down this year, but they’ve had some decent wins. USD would have our number just like Creighton does, but they have a tough team that competes to be in the tourney every year. And those are close enough that fans could easily travel to the away game (if we did it for a few years). Maybe an OK State type or someone from Big12, or a different PAC-12 team (One near the top, wouldn’t expect to win but we could learn some things early).
  10. I’m not a fan of what the yanker said - “it was never my Intention to hurt someone”. It never is. If I had done something like that as a kid my parents would have put my ass in a sling. Grabbing someone by their hair and forcibly pulling them down is going to harm that person. What part of that isn’t clear?
  11. I agree, and I wouldn't be at all surprised if we only won one of those games, or maybe none. PSU and Illinois have got to be licking their chops thinking they can get a win against us - those are going to be tight games.
  12. I’m surprised we saw her at all. Maybe coach is getting a little frustrated?
  13. Helms, Brady, Bourne, Brown, Cain have all but 5 of the pts.
  14. Why do we shoot so poorly on our home court?
  15. I am very worried about this, too.
  16. Are the stats right? Our starters haven’t scored and it’s all bench points?
  17. I’ve always thought if a girl is over 6 feet tall and can jump, she’s much more likely to play VB over basketball in college. If you are tall and of average or below average athleticism, you can’t hide it on the VB court, but you sort of can in basketball.
  18. I look at a player like Doyle, someone I think played with a little too much emotion in her early years, but plays so well now. That type of player would have flourished under Yori, and flourished early in her playing career. But, for whatever reason, that wasn't meant to be. I found a thread from when Williams was hired and read through it last night. There were comments from a few people that we absolutely needed a true PG, a leader, for the team. We were counting on Doyle until she decommitted. I just wish we had recruited someone to replace her. Maybe Helms is that person? Does she not get many minutes due to her leg issues? Senior leadership is sooooo important in any sport, even if you aren't a starter. It's important to pass on what you've learned in your time as a collegiate athlete and set the culture for the younger athletes. A lot of it is done outside of competition - like in the weight room, practices, etc. If the younger athletes see one of the seniors totally busting ass whether they are the top person on the team or a nonstarter, they know what the expectation is. My daughter sees some of the freshman get down on themselves during competition and she doesn't hesitate to talk with them (it's pretty common in a more individualized sport like track and field for an athlete that was kicking butt in HS to adjust to not being the top dog right out of the gate in college). Sometimes it's the weight room where they struggle, but the seniors are there to help lift them up. There is so much more - I honestly didn't realize everything that went into it, but my daughter will often share with me various things and, if may toot my daughter's horn a little, I'm impressed she has figured all of this out and is able to handle her course work, athletics, other extracurricular stuff, and still be a leader on her team.
  19. I was at The Adidas Classic at UNL yesterday. Heard grumbling by several Husker fans. Outside of VB, bowling, wrestling - what sports have the Huskers shown any consistency in (positive consistency), or improvement? Seems like most of the remaining sports have slipped or been stagnant in the past decade. Moos has made a few changes so far - perhaps we will see more in the next few years. I just shake my head at how far most Husker sports have fallen off the map.
  20. Is this the 4th year for this coaching staff? Honestly, I’ve lost track. If so, I’m disappointed at the downturn this late in the season. I think back to a post from when this coaching staff was hired about expectations we all listed each year and I don’t think we are headed in a positive direction right now. There is still time to win some games this season and try to get in as a bubble team, so I want to see the players and coaching staff giving it everything they’ve got. i was concerned early this season when I would see us go on long scoring droughts against teams that really aren’t that good. I became even more concerned when this continued throughout the season. I don’t have any hopes that this will get any better this season. However, if we could work on rebounding and defending, it would sure help a lot. I feel a coaching staff needs 6 years minimum to get things in place. Things I feel are urgent: 1) We absolutely need a true PG, a genuine floor leader. 2) We absolutely have to improve rebounding. 3). We must improve defense. 4) we need athleticism. How different would this team be if we had been able to keep Doyle and Cayton? They were casualties of a coaching change, and those things happen. But what I don’t understand is why we don’t have those types of players in the 4 years this coaching staff has been in place. I am seriously worried about losing Nicea - our best defender on a team that plays poor D (except for Nicea). As for now, since we play such poor defense, we need to have people in the game that can score. I want to see Bourne, Brown, Haiby, and Nicea as starters. We’ve got to be able to consistently score, or go on a run and get up a bit, then sub for a rest. Crack the whip when it comes to turnovers. I think those turnovers could be cut in half if we had a true PG. if it’s a truly boneheaded TO (like throwing it right to someone on the other team), then you are on the bench. also, lack of hustle lands you on the bench. these are all things my daughter’s middle school club coach did, and things I have seen various successful college coaches do. It’s nothing new.
  21. Ruching is nice on formal gowns but not in basketball games.
  22. I'm not sure about FGCU and Princeton, but South Dakota can beat all of those Big Ten teams (and they have already with OSU). I honestly feel at this point in time, we are an NIT team. Hopefully they prove me wrong.
  23. Well, we were playing the Wolverines after all. Long claws!
  24. https://golobos.com/roster.aspx?rp_id=7412
  25. Sorry, don’t have a link but saw that Jayla Everett, PG on New Mexico team has entered transfer portal. Was conference freshman of the year last year, 5-10 from St. Louis.
