2021 SG Hunter Sallis ->Gonzaga->Wake Forest
millerhusker replied to AuroranHusker's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Awesome for Hunter! I'm excited to watch him progress in college and beyond. -
This. It’s not always addition by addition. I don’t think Shamiel Stevenson is a good fit for us, but I do think he could be a contributor on a lot of high major teams. I actually think he’d be a good fit at Ohio State. But I don’t think he’d work out with Chris Collins at Northwestern. Pinson is absolutely a high level player. It’s about putting the puzzle pieces together.

Walker is the point guard transfer from Northeastern. Turns out, we’re not on his final list. I think he ends up at either Michigan State or Kansas.
-
According to Washut, we’ll likely take a guard, a wing and a big. It sounds like Wilcher is N (which is huge IMO). And the Lithuanian big if we want him. There’s our wing and our big. If TyTy and Tyson Walker don’t wanna come here, then I agree we should take Pinson. I’m skeptical, but if he comes Nebraska, I’ll sure be cheering for him to prove my current opinion wrong.

Washut seems to be excited about this. Not sure how I feel about it. He can score, but he's a high volume guy and very inefficient. Poor shooting percentage, turns the ball over a lot (1:1 assist/TO) and clashed with Cuonzo Martin. Offensively, his play style and situation at Missouri is very similar to Trey and his situation at Pitt. I love Trey, but I'm not sure how these two would fit together on this team. Where these two differ is the fact that Trey loves to play defense. Pinson apparently doesn't. Not sure if Tyson Walker is a realistic possibility for us, but he'd be number 1 on my board. I think he'll be one of the better point guards in the country before his college career is done, and he'd be a great fit in our system.

Kimani Ffriend deserves a mention

Fair enough. They have been wrong before.

Per Washut, none of the power 5 offers are committable.
-
Power 5 coaches and national recruiting analysts have seen him play numerous times over the past 2 years. It’s almost April and his only committable offers are from mid-major schools, and he’s not ranked by any recruiting websites. If he were from any other state we would never have heard of him. I don’t think Fred and Matt are gonna offer a kid just because he’s from Nebraska.
-
Absolutely. I've never understood the casual Husker fan's attitude towards Jorge. My KU fan friends respected the hell out of him. They watched him school Cole Aldrich on more than one occasion.
-
New highlights. He’s got real potential.
-
I don't see it with Saint. He'll be a pretty good mid-major player. He'd be a below average ball-handler at the high major level. Would struggle to get by people with his lack of explosiveness and quickness. He's a less athletic Nana Akenten (who was an elite three point shooter in high school), in my opinion.
-
Might be in the minority here, but not sure it'd be a good fit. Much higher expectations at UNM than any other place he's coached. Places like that only like coaches with a "shtick" if they're winning a lot. If not, they'll turn on him quickly.

Yvan's wingspan and the fact that he plays below the rim are more problematic than his actual height. Add to that his lack of touch, coordination and suspect hands and footwork and it's pretty clear why an unpolished Eduardo has already passed him up. Seems like people reference Yvan's "potential" only because of his relatively young age, but this is silly imo. There are thousands of 6'8" 18 year olds with all of the characteristics listed above. I like Yvan's work ethic and maturity, and would love for him to stick around and be the third big on the roster, but I doubt he's ok with that. Probably best he moves on.

2018 SG Au'Diese Toney -> Pitt -> Arkansas

Considering that we pop up on these lists with almost every Power 5 transfer, I'm guessing this means Trey was consulted and didn't like the idea. There's no chance we'd risk upsetting the McGowens' at this point. -
He definitely was. But he's not exactly shooting the lights out at this point either. He was 0-4 from three last night, 1-5 from the field and everyone is raving about his performance. Again, I think this has to do with his teammates improvement. Thor made some great passes last night that resulted in buckets. If Derrick doesn't finish a couple of those layups and Lat doesn't knock down a couple of those threes, people would be looking at the box score and again asking why Thor gets any playing time. I don't think Thor's game has changed one bit. He's always had that vision and feel. But the purposeful movement has not always been there with the rest of the team. I hope Thor comes back. He's not a guy who can carry a team, but he can be a key player on a very good team.
-
We've done this the last three years. I remember people being down on Thor early last year, then being pleasantly surprised as he became one of our more valuable players. I believe the perception that Thor is playing better has more to do with his teammates being in their correct spots and playing with more purpose. Thor is Thor - unathletic, but plays as fast as anyone. He's got an excellent feel for the game and almost always makes the right decision.

Illinois is obviously better than we are. Neither team played good basketball in the first half. I have a cousin who’s a D1 ref, so I usually give the officials the benefit of the doubt. They have a tough job, and they’re generally a lot better at their job than fans, players and coaches give them credit for. That said, the refs have been atrocious tonight and it’s definitely affected the score.
