  1. I was concerned about Shamiel’s body language in the NDSU game. He had an egregious foul 25 ft from the basket with 37 seconds left in a blowout. He kind of moped around the last couple minutes of the game, which gave me flashbacks of most of our players last season when things weren’t going the way they wanted. I thought he seemed frustrated with his role thus far. Shamiel comes across as a player with a lot of physical and mental toughness, so I hope I was just misreading things.
  2. I've watched three of his press conferences now. He's got to be one of the most likeable Husker players in recent memory. Very positive, humble and well-spoken.
  3. I watched Brandon Ubel in an AAU tournament back in ‘08. He stood in the corner and shot (mostly missed) 3s the entire tourney. He was also skinny and slow. He probably ended up being one of the hardest working players we’ve ever had at Nebraska.
  4. Last summer/fall one of the Rivals guys reported Wilhelm was the top post target on Fred and Matt’s board. That’s good enough for me.
  5. I’m still hoping to see Dalano on the block with four guys on the perimeter. I believe the most efficient three point shot is a catch and shoot from a pass out of the post.
  6. Surprised people aren’t discussing Banton more. We have one of the most unique players in the country. He’s special. Truly ambidextrous on the court. Point guards feel for the game at 6’9”. He’ll likely lead our team in assists and rebounds. He also seems like a great leader. Always talking on the court and encouraging teammates.
  7. Yvan attempting a shot is essentially a turnover at this point. He's now 3 for 15 in the paint on the year.
  8. Compare his high school film to Yvan’s. He has instincts on that end that can’t be taught. He’ll add weight and strength as the years go on, but he’s no smaller than Lat is right now. He guarded Chet Holmgren (#1 recruit in the nation) a few weeks ago and held him to 10 points. Here’s a snippet: Breidenbach has a very fundamental game, and it works to his advantage. The 6-foot-9 center was great on the glass for Big Red, both on the defensive and offensive side. His long frame helped him block shots and get easy put backs. He moves very well for his size and is a vocal leader on the floor. The Nebraska-commit is great in the pick and roll. He set great screens all weekend and always would get great position on his defenders to put himself in scoring positions. His communication on defense was second-to-none, and his ability to defend the pick-and-roll was on full display.
  9. - Was surprised to see our guys so hesitant to shoot after missing a few. Nevada also shot terribly from the perimeter, but their demeanor was different. They stepped up and seemed to take every shot with confidence and no hesitation. - Dalano played 38 minutes. Clearly, he's the guy Fred trusts the most. He felt like he needed to take shots I don't think he'll normally take, due to our offense being so stagnant. Credit Nevada - they executed their defensive gameplan, which was to completely take away the paint and just hope Nebraska missed enough threes. It worked for them, but I think we beat this Nevada team 7 or 8 times out of 10. - Losing 20 lbs. might've actually hurt Yvan. He still struggles getting a shot up through minimal contact, is always off balance and doesn't have great hands. He just has a pretty low ceiling. If Eduardo and Wilhelm develop at all over the next year or two, Yvan might end up in the transfer portal. - Shamiel is a solid two way player. He's passed up some open threes that I'd like to see him take. Kobe is a good scorer. I generally don't care who's in the starting lineup, and I like Kobe's scoring punch off the bench. But, Shamiel's defensive versatility and rebounding would be useful in our first 5. - Loved Trey's enthusiasm on the bench in the second half. He scored zero points and didn't play much in the second half, but he was the happiest guy on the team, jumping up and down, every time we scored a bucket. Complete culture shift from last year. I like this team. Hopefully Husker fans are patient. We probably aren't a tournament team yet, but the future is bright.
  10. Fred is frustrated. Guys are passing up open looks to take contested shots.
  11. We seem quite a bit worse when Yvan is on the floor
  12. Coming into the season I thought their only weakness would be three point shooting. Well, they made 17 threes today (their stud freshman made 6). Really impressed with that team. Ayo is going to elevate to superstardom this year.
  13. I don't get it. Donovan Williams played 5 minutes and had no stats for a mediocre team that barely beat UT Arlington today. Nebraska won our game by 50 and every rotation player contributed significantly.
  14. How do you rewatch the game? I wasn’t able to watch and it’s killing me.
  15. Oh, and I’m gonna guess McNeese’s transfer from Mississippi State wins the opening tip.
  16. Where did you see the starting lineup?
  17. I like Walker, but of all our rotation guys, he’s probably the one we can afford to not have available to play. Might be a blessing in disguise. You really can’t keep more than 8 or 9 guys happy on a basketball team and the rotation was going to have to tighten up eventually. Fred said the hardest thing about being a coach is distributing minutes. This makes it a bit easier on him. It’ll also give our two young bigs a chance to get more experience. I still expect Walker to be a great practice guy and leader.
  18. I think it’s likely that at least one of those guys won’t be here next year. Will Teddy want to start making money playing basketball after a solid year? I wouldn’t blame him if he did. He has two children to provide for. Will Dalano have a Royce White year and be one and done? The staff thinks he has NBA potential. How will Yvan handle his minutes possibly decreasing with the additions of Walker, Eduardo and Lat? I’m pretty confident the McGowens and Lat will be here next year. Outside of them, it’s hard tellin’.
  19. According to Washut, it sounds like we might be playing North Dakota St on Saturday.
  20. First three games with his new team are in the books. Game 1: 20 pts, 3 assists, 3 blocks Game 2: 15 pts, 9 assists Game 3: 28 pts
  21. I mean, we just signed a 5 star... who is probably one of the best shooters in his class... he’s 6’6”... and can definitely play point guard if needed. If Rivals considers Sallis a PG, they could have easily listed Bryce as one also.
  22. I watched the preseason game vs. Doane last year with a buddy of mine who's a KU fan. He made the comment, "You guys might not win 6 games this year." He was pretty close. That's essentially what Fred and Doc were trying to tell us before the season, too. We won that game by 30, but had a ton of turnovers, shooting was awful and it doesn't take long to tell if you have players who don't belong at this level (which is verified by the schools they all transferred to). Fred's attitude when talking about this team is much different than last year. We have a bunch of guys who have already proven they belong at this level. They seem to be meshing well. Only 5 more days and we'll see what it looks like when it counts.

  24. Guilty. Pretty sure I compared Jervay to Donovan Mitchell after watching his juco film.... To be fair, Coach Miles told us that he was a future NBA player.
