OT: Doc Sadler introduced as head coach at Southern Miss
GoBigRed replied to MidwestDrummer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This seems like a misguided opinion. I disagree as think this post is dead on. Doc tries to use his charm and personality to cover his lack of coaching abilities. Maybe, but that doesn't mean he "quit" and "coasted" as Red Dane said. The man cried and had to nearly walk away from the podium during his farewell press conference. He wanted to succeed here badly, and if he had thrown in the towel he would not have cared so much when he left. -

They are truly pathetic. -
Will {SEC school with an opening} come after Miles?
GoBigRed replied to Cazzie22's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I hope Tennessee, Missouri and everyone else goes after Miles and they all got a nice "No" from his agent. Would be great publicity for us and to let the rest of the nation know that Nebraska is a better basketball job in at least one very smart's man's eyes. -

Miles gets a $125,000 minimum raise every year, guaranteed. It's in his contract. By 2018-19 he will make $2.15 million base salary. So we don't necessarily need to rework his contract because he started at $1,400,000, went up to 1,525,000 last season and is due for 1,650,000 this season. Plus he gets 75K when we win 20 games and 150K for making the NCAA Tournament. That's 225K extra for basically having an average to good team. If he does that this year he'd make 1.875 million after starting at 1.4 million in 2012-13. I think he is feeling quite loved. By comparison, Cuonzo Martin, in 3 years at Tennessee, got one $50,000 raise in those 3 years - and made less than Miles starting out. Miles more than doubled that raise in Year 1 and could have lost every game and that would have still been the case. -
Will {SEC school with an opening} come after Miles?

I don't think the national media quite understands Miles and the situation he's in at UNL. There are only a few programs I'd even be worried about him leaving for (now or anytime in the near future) and there isn't an opening at any of them. +1,000. It's easy for outsiders to assume he worked wonders at the same old Nebraska that has been a basketball dump for 15 years. But the new arena and Hendricks Training Complex are seriously among the top 10 basketball facilities in the country. And the Big Ten is easily one of the best leagues in the nation for the most competitive players. These are the only schools that I believe could compete with us for Coach Miles' interests (I am not saying I'd be worried about him leaving for these schools, I'm saying that on paper I wouldn't blame him for being interested): American Louisville Connecticut Memphis Cincinnati ACC Syracuse Duke North Carolina Pittsburgh Notre Dame Big 12 Kansas Texas Oklahoma Oklahoma State Baylor Iowa State Big East Georgetown Villanova Big Ten Michigan Wisconsin Michigan State Ohio State Indiana Minnesota MWC San Diego State New Mexico Pac-12 Arizona UCLA Oregon Stanford Colorado Arizona State SEC Florida Kentucky WCC Gonzaga 34 schools, and some of them are probably on par with us. For the life of me I don't think Miles would ever go to some of the schools above though. I don't think people take into account enough the fact that he has two children in school, and moving states all the time isn't exactly fun for children and spouses who just get settled down. By all accounts it seems like they all love Lincoln. -
Yup. Great player. No question about that. But is he the best player in the nation? Nope. Those guys rise up when the stage is biggest. Great offensive player. Didn't play a lick of defense. Somewhere, that has to count for something.

I've heard Agau could end up at UMKC (former Louisville coach who recruited him to UL is now head coach there) or UNC Wilmington (where another Louisville assistant just became head coach). And that this could very well happen after this season.
-
A name to keep an eye on: Isaac Chew, Marquette assistant last two years. Miles may just try and keep him from going with Buzz to Va. Tech. Chew is a Chicago native with tons of connections there. He was at Illinois with Groce briefly and Missouri with Haith when they got a #2 seed. He recruited a Top 15 class at Marquette in 2013 with 3 top 100 players. Just saying... http://www.gomarquette.com/sports/m-baskbl/mtt/chew_isaac00.html

I know I'm stating the obvious this year, but we really need to do better in non-conference play next season. We would have never have had to even worry about being on the bubble this year had we done anything even decent in the non-con. I'm looking for 2 losses MAX.

"No-Sit Gameday" 2014-2015 Season
GoBigRed replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
No one is expected to stand. But if you don't, you may not be able to see. Kind of like paying for a seat but running the risk of sitting behind Dave Hoppen. -
As we learned this year, trying to find top 100 RPI teams that are close to "gimme" wins is ideal... Eastern Kentucky, Canisius, Towson, Eastern Michigan, Boston, Georgia State...all those would have counted as Top 100 wins this year. Citadel, ranked 345/349, on the other hand is a game we really don't need to play. I know it's hard to project who will be good and who will be bad. But we played 2 of the worst 20 teams in DI this year. You'd have to think we don't need to play those games next year.

"No-Sit Gameday" 2014-2015 Season
GoBigRed replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Every game should be "No Sit"...until we are up by 30 against Pine Bluff. Just my opinion. -
They talk about us all the time...are they jealous? One could argue that they talk about us because we're they're favorite team 7 out of the 12 months of the year Excellent point.

0 Big East teams make it to the Sweet 16. But yeah, that conference is just as good as the Big Ten.

Creighton fans complaining about Baylor running up the score. I guess they should have just taken shot clock violations for all of the last 3 minutes.
-
I don't feel for a single one of them. A. They think we are uneducated about basketball and have posts like this on their board from Friday: "Baylor looks slow and their zone does not look spectacular." B. They are assholes who stay stuff like this: "Looks like the moment is too big for Miles and company" only to have their team lay an egg two days later...again. Since next year has officially started for both teams, we'll see you later this year, Jays. I'm sure you will enjoy your stay at PBA.

How was Gibbs not called for a foul first for hugging the guy? Oh well his sad career is over.
-
I always said give them 3 years post-Doug before they fired Greg. Fortunately for him he hasn't set the bar too high for himself.
-
Because they already had 2 or 3 different threads going where they non-stop make fun of us.
-
This is certainly taking away some of the sting from Friday.
-
7 minutes into Creighton/Baylor and there has been 1 foul I think. Oh and crayton can't play a lick of D. Leaving Baylor shooters wide the hell open. I love it.

Nebraska 19-12 Vs. Baylor 24-11 Game Thread
GoBigRed replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is CBS's 4th string announcing crew. 4th string? Don't know I'd give them that much credit. Marv though Nathan Hawkins was #4 for Baylor. -
Nebraska 19-12 Vs. Baylor 24-11 Game Thread

These announcers can hardly even acknowledge that the refs made a terrible mistake. Called it a "miscommunication". WTF?
