Yeah, you're right. Some of it is coaching, and some of it is also his system creates open looks for guys, which are a lot easier shots than the fadeaways with a guy in your face like our guys were so keen on taking. I think Fred can make Brady, Amir, Nana, Karrington, Thor, and anyone else, better players. The question is, does he want to or see the need to? Or does he think it's easier to just find better players.
-
Brady was 10 for 50 from 3 (20%) in Class B Nebraska, where other team's tallest players are 6-5. He was 0-1 in 256 minutes on the court this season. He and Amir were a combined 0-1 from 3 in 524 minutes this season. In ISU's Sweet 16 year in 2013-14, they had a 7-man rotation. Every one of those 7 players attempted at least 64 threes in the season. The worst 3-point percentage was 32.7%. For reference, they had 7 players who were better 3-point shooters than James Palmer. Our roster will be a massive overhaul of new players, if not this year, then next. If you are not a scoring threat, they will find someone who is.

Norm, 100% agree. There are a handful of guys on our roster that this staff will be more focused on trying to get better players than instead of trying to develop their skills, IMO. Look at the guys they've offered or are trying to get: Mack = 34% 3pt (166 attempts) Ntambwe = 38.6% 3pt (114 attempts) Nolan = 35% 3pt (146 attempts) Williams = 37% 3pt (151 attempts Then compare it to our guys: Nana = 30.4% (79 attempts) Thor = 17.4% (23 attempts) Amir = didn't even attempt a 3 in 268 minutes of playing time, and shot 29% at the free throw line Brady = 0/1 from three last year and 20% 3pt shooter in high school (50 attempts) If any of those guys weren't currently on our roster and were playing at a different school and were immediately eligible to transfer, would you be wanting us to go out and get them? Be honest.

haha my thought as well. Arop is more likely to redshirt than start. Heiman needs to redshirt if they see long-term potential in him, but we probably won't have enough active players for him to be able to. Has the NCAA waiver process become more lenient with coaching changes now? Like do the UNLV guys have a legitimate chance to be eligible next season?

nah Roby doesn't want to play college bball anymore. NBA or G League I would say.

Allow me to take a crack on guessing our 2019-20 scholarship players. Opinions/changes welcome: 99.9%: Dachon Burke, Guard, 6-4, Jr. Jervay Green, Guard, 6-3, Jr. Akol Arop, Forward, 6-6, Fr. Most likely as of right now: Amir Harris, Guard, 6-6, So. Brady Heiman, Forward, 6-11, So. Karrington Davis, Guard, 6-6, RFr. Thorir Thorbjarnarson, Guard, 6-6, Jr. 50/50: Haanif Cheatham, Guard, 6-5, Sr. (FGCU GRAD transfer) Maybe (visited or intends to): Cameron Mack, Guard, 6-2, So. (JUCO) Maurice Calloo, Forward, 6-9, So. (Oklahoma State transfer) Joel Ntambwe, Forward, 6-9, So. (UNLV transfer) Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua, Forward, 6-8, So. (UNLV transfer) Tomas Woldetensae, Guard, 6-5, Jr. (JUCO) Offered (interest unknown): Kendall Lewis, Forward, 6-6, Fr. (HS) Terry Nolan, Guard, 6-2, Jr. (George Washington transfer) Dalano Banton, Guard, 6-8, So. (Western Kentucky transfer) Doubtful: Isaiah Roby, Forward, 6-8, Sr. 0%: Nana Akenten, Guard, 6-6, Jr. Eric Williams, Guard, 6-6, Jr. (Duquesne transfer)

I'm pretty sure he just means being highly selective when it comes to grad transfers. I think grad transfers who have done well at smaller schools and are looking for one year against better competition on a better team should not be considered "problems" (like Matt Mooney, Mike Daum if he had transferred, Cheatham, Duby Okeke etc.). I think what you need to be careful about is guy who comes on visit and says "I want to transfer to your school because I didn't play much at XYZ and I should get a bunch of playing time at your school (aka your team is not good and I am better than those players and I have already earned it without earning anything)."
-
I think his only restrictions can be in recruiting and possibly on court coaching. I would think scouting and game planning can be anyone's task. Shoot, for all we know coaches take game plans and scouting information from the genius posters on message boards. (Although that's probably not true in Nebraska's case because we would be a final four team every year if they took our game plan advice I'm sure...)

We should be good in that regard. Recent pictures suggest Doc hasn't been doing much baseline to baseline these days. He'll stay on the defensive side.

Fred Hoiberg's Iowa St. teams had the following KenPom defensive efficiency rankings in his time there: 89 66 123 55 59 The only year Sadler was on his staff was they year they ranked 55th and reached the Sweet 16 (the only time Hoiberg reached the Sweet 16). He then took over at Southern Miss and went from 3-20 in Year 1 to 20-13 in Year 5. For those who want to bash this hire because he didn't win as a head coach here back when our facility was the Bob Devaney Sports Center and our practice facility was non-existent, you need to calm down. I haven't seen any bashing of the hire on this board (probably because the smart bball fans are here) but there are some morons running around on Rivals thinking this is a stupid hire.

Nope, the photo was in an instagram story that was posted that week and is gone now. I know there were some vacation photos from early March but that was different (must be nice to be wealthy).
-
Whom to believe....... A. Who you are hearing from B. Fred's wife's instagram account with picture on vacation C. ESPN's story: "Hoiberg is currently on vacation, but is expected to return for Michigan State's NCAA tournament game Friday" D. Both B and C. Think I'll go with D.

I would think that he would want him. And I would think that Dwayne would have some interest.

Tim Miles out as Nebraska Basketball coach
GoBigRed replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Had no idea Scott Spinelli had given up coaching to do instructional YouTube videos on meatballs. -
Lol. So this. If we don't get him because we won too much in the postseason...
-
Not to be that sky is falling guy, but we're going to get screwed, aren't we? I mean it's been happening throughout the entire history of our program, why would we expect anything less. What's our backup plan just in case? Miles? Matta? Turgeon? Smith?

"I am very, very grateful to President Schill, Rob Mullens, and the University of Oregon for their support and for the faith they have shown in me here," Altman said. "I work for special people at a special place in front of special fans, and I look forward to coaching here for many years to come." I know Dana's word doesn't carry a whole lot of weight, but he's not coming here.
