Dude, it is not a factor. He made his decision long long ago. The statement was just a cover to buy him time while he's in California all weekend.

Hoiberg was at the MSU/OSU game today in a Spartan shirt. Get the hunch the future Nebraska basketball coach wouldn’t do that. Unless he stayed to watch our game. Altman is out, Matta rumored to UNLV, Hoiberg either in a great disguise scouting our roster or laughing out loud at the thought of coaching us. Feels like our dream hires are running out quickly. Hope we have a plan already in place.

Yep, there goes one more bubble spot. We're going to have to win at least two more, maybe the whole thing.

I like that guy's bracket lol. He doesn't have any at-large teams outside the NET Top 60 in the tournament. Which is the way it should be, that's why this damn metric was created, to sort the teams better. This would and should exclude teams like: 60 UNC Greensboro 62 Toledo 63 Arizona St. 72 St. John's from consideration.

I get your point, but I"m pretty sure the committee has an eye on every game's TV broadcast.

New year, same shit. Last year remember all the BTN analysts said we had to beat Michigan (AGAIN) to get in despite our great record and 4th place finish. Were they right? Sure. However they are the damn conference network and the talking heads did us no favors.
-
I did some research. Against Power 5 (+ Big East) schools since our 2014 NCAA Tournament season, we are 44-74 (.373) Against Power 5 (+ Big East) schools with a WINNING CONFERENCE RECORD since our 2014 NCAA Tournament season, we are 7-48 (.127) Essentially in the last 5 years, when we play a power conference school that will end up with a better than .500 record in their own conference, we have a 12.7% chance of winning.

Correct, they've never been to the Sweet 16. Third round means second round. That's how Wikipedia lists it. Stupidest thing ever. Should be "Play-in games" followed by "First Round", but I digress. Point is, even Creighton's level of success isn't asking for a whole lot.

Program expectations: What Creighton is doing, no more is expected, but no less. If a school 45 minutes up the road in a less prestigious conference can accomplish this, then you damn well better believe we should be able to. 2018 - NCAA First Round 2017 - NCAA First Round 2016 - NIT Quarterfinals 2015 - no postseason 2014 - NCAA Third Round 2013 - NCAA Third Round 2012 - NCAA Third Round 2011 - CBI runner-up 2010 - CIT Semifinals

He's in Year 5 at Marquette, a school that Buzz Williams was having a ton of success at, and he has 0 NCAA Tournament wins and this will be appearance #2 in 5 years. No, people just get enamored and caught up with the present day. Last year at this time when Marquette was 18-12 regular season and 9-9 Big East, and we were 22-9, 13-5 Big Ten, people would have laughed their faces off at firing Miles to hire Woj.
-
Right? It's funny, he mentioned Hoiberg and Woj as guys who would be huge. Well guess what, Marquette hired Woj when he had no previous head coaching experience. He was an assistant at Duke. Iowa State hired Hoiberg when he had no previous head coaching experience, or any coaching experience at all for that matter. I'm guessing people wouldn't consider Jon Scheyer a "huge" hire. No different than Woj to Marquette though, other than Woj was 37 when hired and Scheyer is 31.

Miles is retained what does the team look like
GoBigRed replied to Ron Mexico's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Terran Petteway Shavon Shields Walter Pitchford Tai Webster Andrew White III Ed Morrow Glynn Watson James Palmer Isaac Copeland Isaiah Roby Thomas Allen All these highly rated, highly recruited players on our roster, have gotten us 0 NCAA Tourney appearances in the last 5 years since C. Smith left (assuming we don't make it this year). I can't comprehend why anyone thinks the future will be different. It's an erroneous assumption to assume that all of our key players will stay if Miles is retained. Have you not been watching the past two months? I wouldn't exactly say our team is playing hard or fighting for anything. -
We are losing our top 3 scorers, over 60% of our scoring, next year. If you went back and looked, I bet we will not have had that much of a rebuild at any point in Miles or Sadler's eras, maybe even Collier. Someone can go look when was the last time our 3 leading scorers didn't return the following year, I bet it's been a very long time. So again, what exactly do you think next year is going to be even with Miles? It's going to be starting over again.

Fair enough, but I'm guessing they didn't all obtain that history in the first place with a bunch of guys from their own states. We got 99 problems, but in-state talent ain't one. (OK it is one of the 99 problems, but it's not close to the top of the list of problems if you ask me.) Until we actually start signing the best players in this state and losing with them, we shouldn't be whining about our lack of in-state talent. Creighton has been doing just fine with Nebraska kids sprinkled in here and there every year. Treshawn Thurman (6'8") had a good career going at UNO and then transferred to Nevada. He is averaging 7.8 points and 5.7 boards. You can't complain about lack of in-state talent when you don't even attempt to get the ones you do have.

If Nebraska basketball is a coaching graveyard, answer me this: Craig Smith got a head coaching job at South Dakota after being the brains behind Nebraska's run to the NCAA Tournament. USD knew what a gem he was, all the Husker players on that team would tell you how much he was missed during the 2015 meltdown. He then took South Dakota from nothing to the NIT, and now he's a National Coach of the Year candidate in 1 year at Utah State. It's almost like a good coach CAN find success in Lincoln. Like, Nebraska doesn't always ruin everybody's career!

Here are the top 25 teams in our "region", number of in-state players on their roster, and how many of those actually contribute this season: Kansas: 2 (0 contributors) Marquette: 4 (2 contributors, they are twins) Kansas State: 3 (1 contributor) Wisconsin: 4 (2 contributors) None of these teams build their rosters around what they get from their own state. They just get 1 or 2 every year or two, just like we could if we stopped diminishing our own state's players while other schools reap the benefits of their services. If we actually had tried to recruit Khyri Thomas, Justin Patton, Mike Daum or Tre'Shawn Thurman, all of them would have made an impact and been starters or at least 6 or 7 man players had they come to Nebraska. We also had a guy from right next door named Michael Jacobson on our team who left and is starting and a top player on a sure-fire NCAA Tournament team. There is no reason any coach who comes here shouldn't recognize that KC, Minneapolis, Denver and Chicago have plenty of players to choose from and if you can't develop the decent players you can get, that's on you. I feel no hope with a new coach, no matter who it is. Sorry you feel that way. This season sucks, no doubt. How can you possibly be optimistic about next year though, regardless of what happens? The off season is going to be a stream of breaking stories about players transferring and recruits going elsewhere. It always is. The one time it wasn't was this past offseason, and look how that has turned out for us. We are going to be so gawd awfully bad next season no matter who we hire that it won't even be worth going to games. So what exactly do you think we are going to do next year if the staff doesn't change and we lose Palmer, Watson and Copeland, and bring in Green, Adams-Woods and Arop? You think that's an NCAA Tournament team next year? I sure as heck don't. That's a 6-14 Big Ten team. Brady Heiman is the only player on next year's roster currently taller than 6-8. Next year is going to be horrible no matter what, so I'm not sure where this sentiment is coming from that we're going to take a huge step back. We are 5-13 in the Big Ten! We've been to 1 NCAA Tournament in the last 20 years! But what's really going to make you depressed is a new coach who brings in new players??? Doesn't make sense to me, sorry.
