Arena to get better cellphone reception with antenna system How about putting phones to use in other ways though? Everyone has one (I imagine this is especially true for the student section). Surely there's something that can be done to create a free throw distraction using cell phones. I don't know about anyone else, but I'm convinced there's a psychological reaction anytime certain sounds come out of my phone. The same can be said of when I hear someone else's phone in public. "Is that my phone?" "How annoying. Turn that s##t off!" So what if everyone played their ringtone (as loud as possible) as the player is about to take his free throws? Certainly 500+ ringtones could make some noise.. and maybe cause dude to lose focus for a second and think about his own phone (caused by his unhealthy attachment to it). It's also annoying when people have loud conversations on their phone in public. So everyone could take out their cell and act like their having a really loud conversation with their moms. "Mom! Stop calling me! Yes, I'll be home for Christmas! I gotta go!!" Or everyone could play the same song from their phone. There's no way to get everyone in sych, but it would probably be discernible as to what song it was (something funny/distracting, obviously) and create plenty of noise. Maybe just play "Don't Drop That Thun Thun" or "WOP" and everybody break into a twerk session. Also, everyone's phone probably has a camera. Take a picture, using the flash. 500+ flashes going off in his face at the same time might suck a little bit. These are probably all unethical/unfair, which is probably why they don't allow stuff like airhorns, megaphones, and other noise-making/amplifying devices. But what are they going to do? Confiscate hundreds of phones?

2015 Ben Simmons?

"Talent" struggles all the time."Talent" can also bust-out of D1 and never play again or go to a smaller school. Saying someone is talented doesn't automatically equal success. Also, just because someone is starting does not mean they are all that talented. Conversely, just because someone isn't starting does not mean they aren't talented. Corey Maggette only started a couple games in his one season at Duke (Chris Carrawell/Shane Battier got the rest) and was a lottery pick. He's been in the league for something-like 15 years now and has avg'd 16pts 5rebs and 2 asts over that period. Battier puts up smaller numbers and Carrawell barely even had a cup of coffee in the league. Tai's ceiling is much higher than any of the starting guards you mentioned. That doesn't mean anything though. He could start. He could be the 6th man. He could blow up and dominate. He could struggle and take some time to figure it out. He could start, play 30 mpg, and look incredible at times while looking completely out of his element at others. You seem to be wanting to make it as black and white as possible, while there's a ton of gray area. -

1. A.) The pro league in NZ is not exactly strong. B.) He got hot from three versus Angola. 2. Like I said above, you can't teach size. See: Hasheem Thabeet. All I'm saying is we might want to chill a bit. -
How often do "we know we have a game won"? It's a pretty regular occurrence for KU. And if we did something similar, it'd be pretty obvious where the idea came from. On a different, but similar, note... quick survey... am I the only Husker fan that absolutely does not like that "Can You Feel It" song? Holy crap that thing is terrible. I think our whole pregame football music selection is embarrassing. We play songs that are three decades-plus old. And, in the case of Sirius, was stolen from the Chicago Bulls. I'm really perplexed by the Jackson 5 song though. How does that pump anyone up? A disco song? Ugh. Plus, Stevie P was the guy that came up with Sirius for the tunnel walk (he was Dir of FB Ops at the time I believe). And I'm pretty sure it was during his regime as AD that the "Can You Feel It"... uhhh... thing... came about. Personally, I'd like to just erase all of it.

TCP, I agree with doing everything possible to make the Arena "student-centric", but to get rid of donor requirements entirely outside of the suites seems a bit extreme. How would you fund the programs? For many boosters, there has to be incentive to give the higher amounts. Donations would decline significantly. Perhaps attendance would also. If I can't buy better seats (because I choose to spend my hard-earned $$ that way), I'm staying home rather than sit in the Norm Rafters. I'd like to allocate a lot of great seats for students--but that still leaves a lot of Arena to allocate among fans who are willing to contribute. There should be a "time clock" everyone punches upon entering or leaving the PBA. Those fans with the most accumulated hours earn points, and those points go towards seat priority. If students camp out, they punch the clock any time they're in line (skip class, get more points). Something like this could easily be set up with some kind of GPS check-in/check-out system and your cell phone. You enter the building (with your phone) and you're automatically "checked-in" and earning priority points. The diehards with the most points get to choose from the best seats. Which results in more passionate, noisy fans making a difference where it counts the most.

No more script "Huskers"
Searching 4 Chester Surles replied to atskooc's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It is fairly weaksauce for athletic apparel. It'd be fine on some type of athletic department letterhead, business card, or some other type of "professional" use where boring and safe is pretty standard. It honestly looks like it could have been created by a 7th grade art student (apologies to any 7th grade art students in the audience). I liked the script, but understand the need for an update. I don't think this was the right choice. -
2015 Ben Simmons?

I think the expectations and hype surrounding Tai should be tempered. I watched a few full game videos, and frankly, the competition looked like anything you'd find at the campus rec on a given weekday. The kid may turn out to be very good, but Steven Adams was a very highly touted New Zealander, had a chance to acclimate at ND Prep, was declared a 5*/top-10 player in his class... then went to Pitt, only avg'd 7pts 6rebs, and looked incredibly soft while doing so (then promptly declared for the NBA... you can't "teach" size... yadda yadda...). Let's also remember that Fran Fraschilla will take any chance he can to slobber over any international player. I don't think he's ever NOT raved about an import. He once called Yi Jianlian "the future". -

This reminds me of the conversation going on with Miles' first recruiting class, when people were concerned with how many guys we'd be taking and what classification they'd enter UNL as. The concern was that if we had too many HS commits (vs JuCos), we wouldn't be able to accept all of those Chicago players that came for an unofficial. Looking at how that turned out, we might want to pump the brakes just a bit. -
I'm aware. It was mostly in jest (see: "hosers"). But let's just take this a little further. It's CANADA. We're not talking about Euro pros or some country's national team. It's a Canadian college team. This is sorta like those arguments of "Could the '95 Huskers have beaten the worst NFL team in a real game?" or "Could 2012 Kentucky have beaten the Charlotte Bobcats?". TCU shouldn't even be losing to the best Canadian college team (Son. I am disappoint.). Wisconsin lost by 13 and gave up 95 points. Sure, they played with different rules, but c'mon, this is supposed to be a defense-first team (Syracuse held them to 65 with OT). Also, that Syracuse team lost three starters, is breaking in an entirely new backcourt, and their best player was injured (played injured, made it worse, and sat much of the 4th/entire OT). Frankly, I think IU and Wisconsin should be swapped in this poll. And I don't know how OSU stays in the top 15. Did Craft develop more game than just fouling everyone?

Ja'Quan Newton - 2014 combo guard
Searching 4 Chester Surles replied to Huskerpapa's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Even being a blue blood in football, we don't exactly have all-the-confidence-in-the-world in that sport's recruiting either. Bo takes a ton of criticism for his recruiting. As did Frank. We lose recruits in football all the time and fans say "Of course we did." I think this is more a product of humble Nebraskans. The reality is there's not a ton to do in Lincoln (it's not the bustling city, the weather sucks quite often, it can be "behind the times", etc). So it's tough to envision someone with other (better?) options choose UNL. But back to Newton. I don't know how anyone can watch that kid play and not think he would've had better opportunities (without even having to look at his offer list). I don't know about you, but if I'm getting recruited by UCLA, Syracuse, Georgetown, etc, Nebraska doesn't even exist at that point. Miami was his lower "I want to play asap" school. And they just had a great year. We can't really even touch that right now. -
Has anyone watched these videos on YouTube of people from other countries trying American food/candy? Oddly fascinating. http://www.youtube.com/results?search_query=american+candy http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Z_Urx2P0BvM http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4pXUv1KfIvs http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YSN0-jDllu8

Saw the pics posted from the HoopsPanda twitter earlier in the thread but didn't see anyone link the article he wrote. Gave the PBA some love. He agrees with Norm on the food. http://sports.omaha.com/2013/08/27/pinnacle-bank-arena-a-home-run-for-huskers-hoops-and-lincoln/#mckewon-pinnacle-bank-arena-a-home-run-for-huskers-hoops-and-lincoln

I don't want to ruin anyone's fun here, but I'd be careful moving forward on this Dimes. A red shirt and anything with a slight association to the University is enough to prove copyright infringement. The shirt posted for sale on Etsy in this thread ("Nebraska" inside the state border on a red shirt), unless it's licensed, can be shut down by the university. Courts have upheld the precedent of not allowing people to commercially benefit from using state names that also use a university's color scheme. The shirts you've posted not only provide faint association, but they're blatantly designed with "Nebrasketball", pictures of the court, and other things that will "confuse consumers" as to whether they're a university-approved item. This doesn't even begin to explore the territory of using Tim Miles' face, which goes into publicity rights (see: Ed O'Bannon/Sam Keller vs the NCAA). Without getting approval from Miles, you'd be portraying that he's somehow promoting the shirt/HHC. It'd be one thing to keep it on the hush, give them out to a few of your friends to wear around their houses. But this is a shirt that will be sold (commercial intent), contain a promotional plug for HHC, and then worn to games where university officials will be. Kansas has dealt with a bunch of this stuff recently. I've included a few links below. Again, I'm not trying to piss on the parade here, just trying to give you something to think about. http://mashable.com/2013/06/11/ku-boobs-twitter/ http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2010/apr/12/kansas-athletics-joe-college-settle-legal-issues/ http://www2.ljworld.com/news/2013/jun/17/trademark-protection-constant-concern-ku/

Yeah. Especially considering they just lost to a Canadian college team a couple weeks ago. Buncha hosers. Ermmmm. Yeah. They're not exactly stepping out on a ledge for a decent squad in a 10-team league. G'town and 'Quette will be near the top. Nova and SJU should be better. Providence is on the verge of finally doing something again (may not be this year though). And Xavier/Butler are kind of unknowns. They could really finish anywhere from 1st to 7th.

Black Alternate Jersey
Searching 4 Chester Surles replied to #GATA's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I'd be down for the black. It really should've been something we do every year (for a couple games), to the point where we'd kinda be sick of it at this point. Right now a black alt uni doesn't have a ton of "ooh ahh" factor, since it's been done to death. I don't want any part of grey. Nike did that a couple seasons ago... Groce. I'm just thankful adidas hasn't put us in these freaking ugly-ass Zubaz outfits. -
Norm, how do you expect them to lure Gallup back to Lincoln (or some other large jobs-providing company) than by taking them to a flashy Justin Bieber concert? And maybe they have a plan for everyone in the city to use it. You can fit like 20 people in there, times 365 days a year, equals 7300 people per year. It's possible that nothing will be going on the day you're assigned, and it might take 41 years for all 300K people to have their "suite day", but this surely will be the "People of Lincoln" suite.

Pretty much. It's only right that the owner of the place has a skybox. Doesn't the AD have two in Memorial Stadium (or did they give up the 1st one when they built the North addition)?
