Blasphemy. How bout we just get rid of the current band, and just wholesale purchase VCU's pep band? I mean, that's a thing we can do, right? B10 money and all that. -

After two years...
Searching 4 Chester Surles replied to Silverbacked1's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I know this is a minor thing but after two years it would be nice if we used Þórir Þorbjarnarson's correct name. I looked it up and Thorir and Þórir are not the same or even close. Okay now I that I got that off my chest, we can continue to cut him from this team. -

I think the thing that surprises me the most about this list... is the number of dudes on it, that ARE NOT 6'5". Like roughly 70% of this list is not 6'5". What gives? -

Yeah, that pass was pretty slick for a big man. On another note, does anyone else think we might have a really good shot at landing this guy since he plays on the same team as Andre Almeida's son (#44 @ 1m in the video). -

Kill two birds with one stone and let her sing during games too. Get rid of all of PBA's other music. -
Roster Attrition

They also didn't contact said player (trying to firm up the story) and possibly break the news directly to him. -

I care less about asking players to transfer, than I do about them being notified of their upcoming transfer from a group of reporters trying to break a story. I think it's fine to advise a player to seek other opportunities if it's obvious they're not a fit in your system. If they choose to stay (because they like it there or whatever), make it work. But the kid should know whether he has a chance to see playing time or not. -

Can't tell you the exact minute (it's a 45 min video) but... (also, anyone that hasn't watched this, should... dude is the most intriguing piece of this staff... just set it to 1.5X speed so you don't have to spend 45 min on it)... -

To clarify... I doubt Washut was wrong, but I hate to see it unfold like this. Personally I wouldn't care any less if Hoiberg wiped the entire roster. That's his prerogative. It'll suck though if Harris suddenly announces a transfer. Not because he's a crucial piece, but because he will have had the rug pulled (unless he's playing the PR game right now, until it's made official). Haha. Yeah, that's what I'm sayin. -

This is kinda developing into a "yikes" situation. I hope Washut was just wrong. -

I guess it depends on what you're using to compare the two. Are you judging them at the same points in their careers? Or are you taking a high school Kevin Cross and matching it against the subjective memory of Horne's time (and how he was used) at Nebraska? Looking at the high school tape of each... they're both chubby 6'6" dudes. They both can face-up or play back-to-the-basket. They both have ball skills (the hesi, the euro, crossover, behind-the-back, spin move, etc). And they both got shots off at a variety of levels. Cross is slower, less athletic/fluid, and his stroke is a little busted in comparison to Horne's. All of which is why I labeled him the "poor man's" version. That's quite possible. But I also think that has something to do with a player's attitude. I've seen plenty of 6'10" athletic dudes that just refused to dunk the ball. Everything is a layup. I've also seen plenty of guys (Morrow comes to mind) that want to smash it every time they get the ball near the hoop. Horne is definitely more finesse around the cup, while Cross is more aggressive. Seemed like Horne was more willing to attempt a layup with a high degree of difficulty than go strong (maybe he was just building tape for his Jelly Fam application). But looking at each of their games, they seem to use similar movesets in getting to where they want to go. -

I'm gonna go with a poor man's Jeriah Horne. In case anyone already forgot about this dude, here's a reminder... -
Ever hooped against a Husker?
Searching 4 Chester Surles replied to GATA's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Also, does anyone here know, or maybe even willing to claim being, the infamous rec courts' pick-upball player known as "Bird"? Don't think I ever caught the guy's name, even though I played with/against him like 100 times. He was just always known as "Bird" ("Hey, who's got Bird?"). If you've never seen him play, you can figure out what his game was like from his nickname. Probably the highlight of my "athletic career" was blocking Warfield on a dunk attempt. I didn't get him at the rim, but it was pretty damn close. Felt like a million bucks after that. I guarded Miles once during pickup (after he'd already gone pro) and had no idea that's who it was. Only afterwards, when we were leaving, and my buddy goes "You pretty much shut Miles down." I said "Miles who?" And his reply was "Dude! That was friggin BARRON MILES!" I saw him (Eric) shooting in the coliseum once, with no one else around. I debated for a good solid 15 minutes whether I should go get wrecked in HORSE or 1v1, before I just decided not to bother him. YES!! Dude was a freakshow. Always had a better time when we were on the same team than when I had to guard him. -
Ever hooped against a Husker?
Searching 4 Chester Surles replied to GATA's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Ahhh man. This thread brings back some memories! I probably spent more time on the rec/coliseum courts than I did going to class. Huskers I can still remember playing with/against in pick-up games or intramurals: Erick Strickland, Bernard Garner, Jaron Boone, Tom Wald, Ty Lue, Alvin Mitchell, Andy Markowski, Scott Frost, Barron Miles, Eric Warfield, Tommie Frazier, Matt Turman, Doug Colman, Shevin Wiggins, Lis Brenden, Meggan Yedsena, Kate Galligan... and probably quite a few others that I either forget or didn't know who they were at the time (see: women's basketball team, and football players w/o helmets or jersey numbers). The memories that stand out most from those times, usually come from occasions where I managed to put the clamps on someone. I dunno, there's just something about getting the better of a guy who should be far-superior-to-you athletically. I mean, I enjoyed playing defense anyway... but doing well against a scholarship athlete was a whole other level of satisfaction. For instance, I had to guard Frost in a pick-up game once (I was the tallest). It was during his redshirt. He was pretty beefy. I fully expected to get bully-balled from the first check, but I locked him up for the game. I've always questioned whether he had just gotten done lifting (or some other reason)... but as long as he's head ballcoach, I'll always be able to (during a Husker game) say, "Did I ever tell you about the time I held Scott Frost scoreless in a pickup game?"
