  1. As soon as I first saw this kid I knew he'd be a nearly impossible get. I continued to follow him though, and it seemed like Minnesota was really strong in his recruitment the last few months. Sucks to be them. Miami is getting a player. A tough Philly kid that can get BUCKETS.
  2. Woolridge got 17mpg as a frosh and complained. I was of the opinion (during that season) he should've played MUCH LESS. Couldn't understand why Strick would get taken out of the game just to watch Andre pout up and down the court. There are plenty of guys today that would kill for 17 minutes as a freshman.
  3. Who is Matt Davidson? Is he friends with Grant Winstrom? He runs around with Tommy Frazier and Tom Osbourne, too. I heard they go to Barnes & Nobles with Jason Peters.
  4. And speaking of the Kohl Center and it's home court advantage, this is what it says on the UW website... That looks like this... PBA seems to have taken some similar ideas. There's no wasted space for walking paths or other nonsense. It's all tucked away beneath each layer (keeping the seats closer to the floor). And much like the Kohl Center, each level seems to rise right above the one below it, leaving a massive wall of seats, that are "right on top of the action". Again, compare that to the Qwest, where they've wasted space on a hockey design, as well as rings of walking paths (green line) that push each successive layer out further and further. The levels aren't stacked nearly as tightly there as they are at PBA. And the upper-most level just goes back for days. To summarize... I think the PBA design is great for basketball. With the building packed, it's going to be a fairly cozy place for a joint that seats nearly 16K. If we can get some crowd noise, look out.
  5. My bad for responding this late/dredging this up but... Sorry Norm, but I have no idea how you (or anyone) can have these complaints. What were you expecting them to build? Cameron Indoor? Gallagher Iba? This will be one of the best city-built, basketball-centric, multi-purpose facilities in the country. This was definitely built for basketball, and could maybe (probably not very well) host a hockey game. Let's compare it to multi-purpose venues that were built for hockey, and also host basketball games (with lesser quality sightlines). First up is the PBA. The baseline is highlighted in green and I've projected it out into the seats to show how it relates to the "bowl". At PBA, only a few feet exist between the baseline extended and where the bowl starts to curve. The very next section starts to angle towards center court, providing better sightlines and a more compact bowl. But take a look at the Qwest Center (below). You have to go at least a section and a half past baseline extended before the seats start to turn to face the court. This makes the bowl more oblong, which pushes the upper sections even further away from the court. Compare that with the Qwest's hockey config, and you get the result below. The green lines represent the location of the baselines in the basketball set-up. Even a place like the Kohl Center (which has been touted for its environment/home court advantage) is a hockey building that the PBA will have better sightlines than.
  6. The interesting part about this is it looks (if this is the configuration they stick with) like they've decided to lose fewer rows than initially planned. On the athletic department's seating chart, they only had something like 5 rows allocated to the students (on that side). Now it appears they'll have around 7 (and seats are moved out a little further/closer to the court). So hopefully that means the students forced them to pull those extra few rows out due to demand.
  7. Big thanks to 49r, Nebrasketballer, uneblinstu and anyone else that maintained/contributed to this thread. This building is going to blow the doors off the Qwest (I don't care about name changes) Center, and will be looked at and copied by any city/sports entity preparing to build a venue of this sort. The interior, the exterior, the neighboring area -- it all looks incredible.
  8. I watched the replay of that on ESPN3 (you can see several Midnight Madness events on there... Mizzou is going to be reeeally good this season) and that intro may be the sickest, most ridiculous thing I've ever seen. It's no wonder 18 year old kids are lining up to sign there.
  9. Since we'll be playing in the PBA for the next 30-50 years, my vote would be for "The Bank Vault". Only problem there would be if Pinnacle somehow goes broke, can't pay the installments, and have to sacrifice the naming rights. But really, that probably wouldn't happen for at least a decade. By then we'll be using like... I dunno... telepathy instead of the internet, have space cars, robot housemaids, and boys named Elroy. That is, if the world doesn't explode in two months.
  10. Not quite. The SEC has won 6 football NCs in a row and something like 10 in the last 20 years. Meanwhile, the Big Ten has won just one NC in basketball over that same period. The Big Ten is fairly overrated nationally (for some reason) and does a good job of gaming the RPI as a league. Unfortunately that doesn't really amount to much. Not really sure where the love for Ohio State is coming from. They'll be decent, but not top 5. I'm still not really sold on Indiana either. We'll see I guess.
  11. Like I mentioned back in the spring, I don't think the Big East is the best fit for him. I've seen way more talented, way more developed bigs get completely swallowed alive by that league. Mix in the fact that Pitino will have zero difficulty/second thoughts about recruiting someone better right over the top of him... he's much better off going straight to NU. BTW... the above posted scenario (from yesterday) is obviously far-fetched. But I can see it being concocted by the individuals involved (that's all I was saying).
  12. I wouldn't put it past Tim Miles to have orchestrated something with Akoy. Think about it. In-state recruit leaves for a big-name program with a legit basketball history. Then before the signing deadline, the player flips and signs with the home team. Akoy is a hero. Miles is a hero. The state looses their collective mind (as much as can happen for basketball). Let's be honest, Akoy obviously is a bit dramatic and likes attention, and Miles is all about promotion. What if Akoy wanted to sign with NU from day 1? That's boring. Let's have some fun. Let's pretend you're going to leave the state and attend prep school. Let's also pretend you're upset with your former teammate for suggesting he's a factor in your recruitment. Then how about you go and flirt with some pretty big names in college basketball, verbal'ing with a top 5 team and a well-known, future HOF coach. THAT would create some buzz for the program now wouldn't it?
  13. ... as well as Sam Cassell Jr... who signed with Maryland, but was ruled ineligible, and has ended up at Chipola JC. The reason for that ruling, was the NCAA's accusation that Notre Dame Prep is another "diploma mill". Kinda like the one Roburt Sallie went to. Anyway, that ND Prep team was heavily guard/perimeter-focused.
  14. Anyone that has an affinity for certain threads on the old HHC may want to check out this handy site... https://bo.lt/ It'll let you "save" web pages in their current state. So when the old site gets flushed, you still have a snapshot(s) to remember it by (awwww, it was so cute at that age...). *** Just an added FYI... If you want to save entire threads, you'll need to save each individual page. ***
  15. Can't believe I had 1337 posts on the old forum. http://huskerhoopscentral.activeboard.com/m1517798/profile/
