I want UCLA, as long as we don't show up in the black uniforms.

If there's a silver lining in yesterday's loss ...
hhcscott replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
So you would grade those officials as being competent enough to do ncaa tourney games? And thanks for the name calling, keep it classy! Maybe, and I'm just trying to keep the peace here, but maybe he meant when teams lose, it's often due to the crappy officiating, so they are losers in the sense that they lost because the officials couldn't effectively enforce the rules of the game. Honestly, referees are fallible, and we KNOW that there is such a thing as reputation calls, and home cooking. It is not possible to not be caught up in the moment and it's not possible to be 100% consistent. All I would like is for the conferences to apply some of the advanced metrics to officiating performance and quietly move the lowest performers to refereeing Kidney's games at the youth community center. At least B1G officials aren't offered vacations for giving a coach a technical. -
First, I'm going to agree that traveling is not called as often as it should be (just like carrying and hand checking) BUT to your football comparison, sure offsides isn't allowed, but holding and illegal contact with a receiver aren't called nearly as often as they happen, but then on a big play or a key moment they are called, It's a problem to call any of these always because there would be no flow to the game. Ideally we would start a program at the lowest levels to have coaches and officials have zero tolerance for fundamental lapses, but pre-teen to teen boys would hate to play for AAU coaches who want to spend time on dribbling instead of on shooting. Heck, when I coached 8th grade boys, left to their own devices they wanted to practice half court shots instead of layups. I do think we have to have consistency in what is called, maybe you get three steps, or maybe it has to lead to a distinct competitive advantage,

Let me just get this one thing off my chest.

How about we just let the players call their own? Couldn't be worse. -
Man what absolute crap. People use the DVR to tape games when they won't be around so there is no way to check to see if they are taping the right game. Obviously I did not see the notice, but if the cable/satellite companies did and did not switch the info how is one to know what to tape? I know the mickey-mouse operation that is ESPN can't figure out which game to put on which channel until the last minute (because midday second round conference tournament games at are going to have a huge national audience that we need to flip the games around) but I even checked the Dish schedule this morning. Next time I'm just going to opt for pirated internet broadcasts from my office.

What happened with ESPN/ESPN2? I had to record the game, and when I sit down to watch I get the ACC game, even though the program guide says Nebraska and Ohio State. Anyone else experience this? I'm on Dish

I don't see the Benny vs Mike comparison, their roles are different. Tai and Mike are having similar struggles, the main difference is that Nebraska has been progressing and Iowa regressing since about January

Nebraska 2014-2015 (Could very dangerous team)
hhcscott replied to Hoops_Legend's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Most schools, actually. Iowa is putting together a pretty good looking class, and from what I understand so is Northwestern. (Northwestern!) Maryland is bringing what I understand to be a top 25 class in as well. Also keep in mind that Indiana, Illinois, Purdue, and Minnesota really underperformed this year and will be looking to have greatly improved seasons in 2014-15. Finally, our schedule is going to pick up in difficulty next year, so we're going to have to work hard to match (or improve on) this year's record. The thing us, we will be in that sweet spot of a junior laden hungry team with a taste for more success rather than underachievers trying to regroup or freshmen trying to break in. -
So, if we do not go to Dayton and the play in game do we technically remain one of the few major D1 schools to not have a "first round" NCAA tournament win? I know the first round isn't what it was last time we danced, but what makes me think of it was how we had tournament worthy teams before it went to 64, but couldn't get in because if the numbers so it may be that we get a "second round win" before we ever get that elusive first round win.

Pac-12 Referees defeat Arizona to help Dana Altman back to the tourney. Beautiful phantom out of bounds call at the end of the first half leading to a Duck 3. Even Doug Gottlieb got the call right and Doug hasn't been right since…oh, that's the first time...

I think you just woke up Jean. I love how this is going to be a running joke on this board for years to come! FauxJean account coming in 3…2...

It's kind of like "first-world" basketball problems! Just wait until season ticket prices go up Yay one more year of student tickets just to find normal tickets will be way out of my price range!!!! fuck Never graduate. I took 12 hours the semester after I graduated because my college job was a good deal, there weren't teaching jobs in my area, and my future wife was still a student and a fan.

Norm, I'm going to opt for a write-in vote. The Big Ten Media contingent will finish in last place, for picking the Huskers below all of those teams. See you in the funny papers B1G scribes.

Consider me an old fogey and a hypocrite because I was on the mid-court logo after Jamar Johnson's shot, but ever since this I've got no stomach for court storming "In the euphoria after Kay's two-handed breakaway dunk helped clinch a rivalry victory for Tucson High in Feb. 2004, an avalanche of students spilled onto the floor and Kay somehow got thrown to the ground in the crush. None of the 6-foot-6 senior's peers realized he was hurt until he staggered out of the pile dazed and unable to respond to simple questions or properly move his right arm or leg. The torn carotid artery and stroke Kay suffered that day left him paralyzed on one side and robbed him of many of the gifts that enabled him to become the valedictorian of his class, win awards for his saxophone skills and earn a volleyball scholarship to Stanford." "I don't really like to dwell on my injury," Kay said. "The past 10 years, I've tried to move past my injury and embrace my current life. I can walk. I can slowly jog. I can move my right arm but I can't use my right hand. I have a semi-physically active life, but nothing like what I used to be able to do. I haven't played volleyball since." College students are creative, and many want to make their mark by developing new traditions, so put yourminds to it and come up with something to replace court-storming, goal post pull downs, and that stupid gatorade bucket to the head.

Nebraska 17-11 Vs. Indiana 17-12 Game Thread
hhcscott replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
From one point up with two minutes to a ten point win. Great team effort. -
I seriously weighed Petteway, Parker, and Rivers. But Petteway was for a great offensive game, Parker and Rivers for defense, but Shields was #2 scorer, #1 rebounder, had 3 steals and drew a number of fouls. All were deserving but I didn't want an ensemble award.
-
OFFENSE: A Started slow but man what a second half. Petteway with 29, Shields 18, and Pitchford with 10. The shots started falling within the offense and when the Huskers made defensive effort into offensive opportunity. DEFENSE: A+ Sixteen baskets on 30% shooting for Purdue. Parker and Rivers got serious consideration for co-players of the game. They were a constant irritation perimeter and post. Disruptive and distracting. shields also chipping in with three steals. This is the identity of Nebraska basketball. Full defensive intensity for forty minutes will take us a long way. REBOUNDING: C Lost the battle on the boards, but it didn't feel like it. Yeoman effort from Shields to pull down 10. The Huskers seemed to be getting to the loose ball and tying the Boilermakers up, so the imbalance in rebounds was mitigated. BALL HANDLING: A+ Thirteen assists to nine turnovers is nice, but the movement of the ball, the sweet alley-oops, the purposeful movement to get shots in the offense really made this a joy to watch. COACHING: A Miles seems to have found the right buttons, the rotation, and motivation for this team. They are playing so well together and coaching is key to getting everyone to buy in. This is the second or third game recently where early foul trouble has wound up being no trouble. Bench comes in and helps keep the intensity. OVERALL GRADE: A Not flawless but very satisfying. This TEAM is what every one of us hope and wish for every off season, that group that comes in underrated, unappreciated, and over the course of the season they come together, they build and grow and develop individually and collectively. Naysayers hush, the RPI savvy of Miles, the POY play of Petteway, the return of 2013 Shields, and the Rivers-Parker resurgence are why we are in the NCAA discussion with our destiny in our own hands. Go Big Red!!! PLAYER OF THE GAME: Shavon "And One" Shields 2013-2014 PLAYER OF THE GAME RESULTS: TERRAN PETTEWAY - 13 SHAVON SHIELDS - 5 WALTER PITCHFORD - 3 TAI WEBSTER - 2 LESLEE SMITH - 2 DEVERELL BIGGS - 1 This post has been promoted to an article

What do you call it when you win by double digits?
hhcscott replied to PimpMario's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
What do you call it when you win by double digits? I'm going to hope we call it "Husker games" on a regular basis -
My impression is that PSU was getting technical fouls because they were upset at the ridiculous imbalance in the number of free throws awarded to Nebraska, and the Nittany Lions felt that they were getting a raw deal from the officials. Which goes to show the class of the Huskers in not getting those kinds of technical, because this happens to us with regularity, not because of any conspiracy, but because there are "reputation" "momentum" and "star" calls made in any league, and without those factors in our favor historically, I often notice other teams in the bonus for a number of game minutes before the Huskers. Just the other night, even the announcers were commenting that Nebraska had been called for 7 fouls and MSU 0 before a rush of catch up fouls were called.

PSU 13-13 Vs. Nebr. 14-10 Game Thread

Saw that too. We don't need that nonsense. Pac-12 ADs are going to discuss court-storming at an upcoming meeting after a few incidents in the conference with fan conduct and premature celebration at mid court, be fans, not the spectacle, -
Yeah, Leslee's turnovers today were pretty ridiculous. Absolutely. Still affected by injury? Step up in competition? Whatever it is I want to se Leslee get his game back from the early season
