Rutgers (9-6) Vs. Nebraska (8-6) Game Thread
hhcscott replied to Bugeaters1's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
On Pitchford's drive, I'd swear he was Tony Farmer -
Didn't Shavon have a similar funk early last year, looked like the sophomore slump caught him, then come conference, he slowed down, played under control, and became an "and1" machine? He seems to be playing faster than his body. He has smooth moves and good court awareness, but he's playing like he's holding the turbo button, rather than using feints and patience he showed last year. I think a big part of it is the full-court pressure that we are not coping well with. It has us playing on a 24 or less second shot clock and the team doesn't have the time to reverse the ball, and get him in matchups where he can jab step, spin back, toss out, move off, reposition, receive and drive on a defender still catching up. (which is what I remember from last year.) Now it seems like the ball is coming to him late in the clock, with little disruption in the defense, and he's trying to put the ball on the floor against set defenders.

uneblinstu's Post Game Chatter: ed 7, vol 9 - LMU
hhcscott replied to uneblinstu's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
I think Hank Gathers was rolling over in his grave last night with his alma mater scoring 35 points in a regulation game. The Gathers/Kimble teams would have that many sometimes by the 2nd media timeout. I'm really pulling for Mike Dunlap to elevate the LMU program just so the obligatory mention of Kimble and Gathers isn't the only LMU anecdote that announcers can mention. As someone who was in college at the time and following hoops, I appreciate the nostalgia, but the 1990s are ancient history. It would be nice if the talking heads could come up with new and interesting things to say about each team each game. I watched a little of WSU vs LMU and heard/saw the same information on LMU that they shared in the Nebraska vs LMU game. Doesn't it make sense that the same folks are going to watch all the games involving a team, night to night? The announcing on EA Sports games has more variety. -
Nebraska (6-3) vs Hawai'i (8-3) Game Thread

What is with the floor. No one seems to be able cut without slipping. Does Hawai'i have an ice rink under there? -

Apparently Kye damaged our rim. Yep that's why we're missing FTS -

Is it really traveling when they shove you? -
Just a word of caution. The headers came from images that we received permission to use. All of the images were archives in the media guides. I believe it is against NCAA rules for us to use images of current players (but I'm not caught up on all the changes in the past few years) and I'm not sure how the O'Bannon case on athletes likenesses applies here. Also any images coming from AP/B1G/ESPN/Getty etc. would require permission from those agencies not just the university. Anecdotally, this is how I got involved in the Web site, asking Dave if he would post my Maric-era wallpapers on the site, which of course we couldn't for the reasons above.

All-overlooked team. -
One of my all-time favorites.

My complaint is that kids who weren't part of the problem often pay the price. I think things have improved some, with examples like Reggie Bush and show cause orders on coaches blocking them from slinking away, but I'd like to see those who violated the rules punished.

Good history lesson for the day. Some may need to Google those names though. Fairly certain every Kentucky starter falls into that category. They will miss that second semester material.

I voted GofT. I stopped watching the NCAAs after the offensive foul call defeated Arizona. I love basketball, but after watching ten hours a day all four days of opening weekend, once my teams are done it's the offseason, and winter is coming!

I want this board to be the best board out there ...
hhcscott replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Nope though I would have. I'm not the only one who mods around here. HHCScott is more of the bouncer around these parts, Normy~! Well then, thank you Scotty! You are the hidden, but necessary part of this equation! Thank you! It wasn't me this time. Sorry. And a ton of credit for the quality of this board, in moderation, but also in site design and operation, social media, t-shirts, belongs to Dimes. I've not been able to be as active this past season as I was in the preceding years, and Dimes has been the glue holding the whole operation together. And none of us would have had this without Dave's initiative. Thanks also to all of the longtime posters who have stuck with us through the transitions and the tough years to see this new era. You guys are the best and truly represent Nebraska. -
I've got 900,000 neighbors who agree

You know why UA and SDSU fans hate that fouling nonsense? West Coast teams are always the late game and their fans get to see only 2/3 of each game because of some ACC/Big East hackathon running 15-20 minutes long.

Now I'm going to be a whiny little gender neutral pejorative. How about not using allusions to women to insult each other and our players? Not trying to be the PC police, but women are pretty awesome (and Nebraska women are exceedingly awesome) so let's be respectful of them and each other.
-
That was my experience Scott, until I got your post. Thanks for the clarification. No problem, but Dimes is the cool one. I'm the party pooper
-
You have never seen me play because I love the slow and hold when I play. Could hold it for a look time. When I have the ball I don't have to move, which means I don't get tired which means I play for a lot longer. That's like me when I used to paintball. Got a Tippman flatline so I could shoot farther and run less.

Good luck to everyone trying to figure out the comments early on now that I changed the title and made it clear this isn't another rumor thread. Gotta love the offseason

I would love to see college basketball adopt a two-shots plus possession or just possession/reset the shot clock option to combat intentional time stopping fouls. Id also like to do away with the hold the ball slowdown strategy to reduce possessions and make up for inadequate abilities. I know many will object, but I ask you to consider what makes you like watching or playing basketball. No one goes to the rec center to run 30 seconds off the clock or starts fouling in pickup games, winning basketball is played by scoring and defending not manipulating the clock

Arizona, Dayton (two Millers in the championship game) ISU and NOBODY from the Midwest bracket.

Thanks.
