  1. We've kind of derailed the "Hot Seat" thread. @hhcmatt any chance we can move that dialogue over to this thread?
  2. My point, beyond posting this outside of the MLS/soccer thread () is that having control over your product and overall brand is essential in today's saturated market. Nobody is going to care as much about the product as you are and putting it in the hands of the wrong investor can diminish that. It sounds like @49r and I are basically pointing out the same thing. It would be interesting to see how some other entity would try to compete with that ESPN/SEC narrative.
  3. I used to really enjoy watching the Bundesliga pre and post games on FS1/2 on Sunday mornings. Ever since ESPN took the contract, they shoved them on ESPN+, took away all of that, and it really just diminishes the overall product and commoditized it. Sure, so do like the extra matches you can watch now, but the Bundesliga product in the US really dropped off and they have far less control over that now.
  4. Not to mention that ESPN already covers the following on ESPN+ (so where do you really even stack in an oversaturated provider if they don't want to put the effort into you?): A10 AAC ACC AEC ASUN Big 12 Big South Big Sky Big West CIAA C-USA Horizon League Ivy League MAAC MAC MEAC Missouri Valley Ohio Valley Patriot League SEC SIAC Southland Summit League Sun Belt SWAC WAC
  5. Thanks for the clarification. So ESPN basically had "first rights to say yes or no" to a deal if the Big Ten was outsourcing?
  6. As much as I can tag on FOX and BTN, if we shifted to ESPN that could dilute the product a lot, if handled improperly. The last thing I want to do is watch a bad Nebraska basketball team on ESPN+ that has no pregame/halftime/postgame coverage, every game is on ESPN+ (we're so fortunate to watch our games on cable without having to pay and download BTN+), minimal staff at games for the camera crew and coverage, and subpar announcing. It could be great for the Michigan States of the Big Ten though.
  7. Another way to think about it... We generated $2.6M surplus in our men's basketball program in 2019. A $3.5M/year loss from paying off Hoiberg in addition to salary for a new coach and staff flips this into a cost-guzzling program for years to come.
  8. His contract goes through 2027. I'm not sure how extending him another year (even at $0 expense) helps recruiting. Even if a player stayed 5 seasons, he'd be under Hoiberg's entire contract.
  9. The March Madness account picked it up too:
  10. The Big 12 NET rankings, top to bottom, rank from #4 to #70. The Big Ten is #9 to #178 (#99 being the #13 team, excluding Nebraska). Rough.
  11. Barely... Replacing Haas with Haarms is essentially the same name.
  12. I just never realized there was a "FRANCON: Pity" setting...
  13. We are currently #178 in NET rankings. The only worse Power-6 basketball teams (62 in total) are: 180: Pittsburgh (10-16) 205: Georgia (6-19) 218: Georgetown (6-17) 248: Oregon State (3-19)

  17. I guess we can expand this to ALL basketball coaches (men and women) at Nebraska. Fred still takes the cake. Winning % in NU WBB History: 1. Connie Yori: 63% (2002-2016); 280-166 (121-107) 2. 18. The benefit of Hoiberg's system is that we're going to expect larger-than-average turnover each season. The downside of Hoiberg's system is that we're going to expect larger-than-average turnover each season. So you hope you can recruit players who don't need coaching or development, who can replace those who do. Unfortunately, the odds of that happening are very low.
  19. Because it's Zac Taylor, Stanley Morgan Jr., and Jim Burrow, I think I'm going to have to go with a pseudo Skyline Chili Dog for this Super Bowl meal. For the prediction, I'm probably going with a 23-17 kind of game (but the Rams win).
  20. Actively Coachless Team - 66 Coach Left In the Middle of the Season - 72
  21. ...the bus arrived to Carver-Hawkeye Arena. So there was that.
