"They" most definitely did say Sweet 16. -

That's fine, but they still have to find a way to defend elite guards if they want to get where they want to say they do. -
Clark Kellogg Says Creighton to the Final Four

That's cool, but you expect that coming off a bad performance. They had a propensity to give up games like they did the other night all last year, so you know that has to be a concern for McDermott and the coaches. They just don't have the athleticism on the perimeter and Chatman is smallish. I don't think it's the last time they'll have those issues, but that doesn't mean they can't still be very good to great. -

With how they score and a player like McDermott, it's not a crazy pick, or at least no less crazy than any other. It's all about match-ups in March. But if they don't figure out how defend elite guard play, it's going to be tough for them get all the way to Atlanta. -
If you can get him in here at semester and give him conditions like this: You're going to come in here and work your @#% off to get in shape or your scholarship won't be renewed next August (or whenever that decision needs to be made), it might be worth looking into.

RealTimeRPI.com Prediction GOD I HOPE THIS COMES TRUE
uneblinstu replied to Hoops_Legend's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Barring any sort of significant injury, but I'm sorry, we SHOULD beat all of those teams at home. Other than Creighton and Minnesota, none of those teams are all that good. -
Well, everybody's going to have an off night, but Talley's the team's leading scorer. He, Ubel and Ray are all averaging double figures with AA a tick under. If they can hit those averages, they'll be competitive. But that's not my point. The point is they can't have nights where they only have two guys show up and we've had that twice now. One of the times they held the opponent to 48. So, unless they're going to do that every game, they need at least three guys to show up every night and not have the rest of the guys post a goose egg. Doesn't matter which three it will be. If we can average 75 points, we'll probably get a top 4 seed in the big ten tourney. That's asking an awful lot. 75 points flips 10 games in Nebraska's favor last year. If they can get to 68, if flips eight. Heck, if they get to just 65 (which is what they're averaging so far this season), that's six games! Now, I realize the assumption doesn't work that way, but the point is, if they can get to 68 points, they'll find themselves in just about every game at homes and most on the road vs. teams not in the top 10. Scoring will likely go down in conference play, NU's ppg dropped nearly 10 points once conference play started last year. If they can avoid that drop off, NU will have a chance. Give me 3 guys who are on every night, doesn't matter who they are, and I'll take my chances. All I'm saying is it doesn't have to be the same three every night as long as someone picks up the slack when another guy has an off night.

11/27/2012 - At Wake Forest Report Card
uneblinstu replied to hhcdave's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is a ball game if both guys don't have big nights, or if both just have 12 point nights, but I think the shots Ray hit were game changers -
Doc won his third true road game when they beat Miami. I think that's considered a true road game, at least. If not, he beat Mizzou four roadies later.Collier similarly won his third road game when they beat Miami in what might also be considered a neutral site game and then had to wait five more roadies before beating KState. Nee also won his third road game when he beat Southern Illinois.

HHCC Game #7 - Dec 3 vs. Southern Cal (7:00 PM)

It doesn't have to be Ray. As long as Talley and Ubel do what they do, they need one of Ray, Andre, Rivers, Parker or Shields (when he gets healthy) to show up. They need three guys a night to show up to be competitive. Doesn't need to be the same guy every night. If they get two guys like they did last night, they'll be very competitive most nights.

Amazing what happens when you hit some shots.

Nope. -
- In my opinion, it’s a pretty big honor to have Bobby Valvano call our game during V Week. - Nice to get off to start off 14-6. - Liked some of what we did early defensively. Thought we did a nice job of keeping Wake from running. Some nice rotations and help. - Had some chances to extend the lead that it would have been nice to have. At the end of the half, too. That said, when Wake had opportunities after their run, they missed some opportunities, too. - Not sure I’m a fan of having Menke, Parker, Peltz and Rivers all on the floor at the same time. - Gave up a handful of put backs that were unfortunate. That could be a bit of a bad trend starting to develop. - Ubel is doing a lot of really good things. - Talley doing a little too much dancing on the perimeter. Not sure if he’s good enough to do a lot of that. I’d like to see him run the offense a little more. He’ll get plenty of looks in the flow of the offense. - Nice to see Andre finish that little hook a few times, in traffic, too. - Perimeter defense struggled a bit there during Wake’s run. That could be another disturbing trend developing… - Our guards struggle from the line a little more than guards should. - Really like the response and composure after Wake’s run. - Almedia looked fairly quick when he had to move laterally a few times, both ends of the floor and when a player has to shoot over him, he’s intimidating. He just needs to stay on the court. Wake really had no one who can guard him and that shot was falling tonight. Andre’s really good when that’s happening. - When Gallegos comes off that high screen at the top of the lane, he’s really good at knocking down that jumper. - Great energy to start the half. I think it caught Wake a little off guard. - Good to see Gallegos knock some shots down, too. Huge game from him. - The story on Saturday was that no one but Talley and Ubel showed up. Not the case tonight. - Thought Peltz played really great tonight. Nice spark plug and he’s steady. - Offense looked pretty crisp in the second half. Helps when they knock down shots. - Huge game from Andre and Ray was phenomenal tonight. They don’t need them to explode every night to be competitive, but they do need them to show up. The talent is there. This was just a complete effort from Nebraska tonight, especially in the second half. I'm not going to make any claims that Wake Forest is a good basketball team, but they did seem to have some talent that's struggling to figure out basketball as this level. But, I love the passion that Nebraska played with tonight, I loved the fight and the response that they showed after Wake went on that run in the middle of the first half. There was a lot that went right for the guys and I'm glad that this team doesn't play as though they are aware of the expectations on this team. There will be rough days ahead, but tonight was a good one, enjoy it. Good win, tonight! This post has been promoted to an article

Off nights are going to happen. It's part of the deal, especially on offense. So far, Talley and Ubel have been fairly steady, and I expect that to continue. If we have three players per game show up like they did yesterday, we'll be in most games vs. non-elite teams, especially at home. And it doesn't have to be the same player every game. It can be Parker one day, Andre the next and Shields or Gallegos. It doesn't matter, it just needs to be one of them. If not, we'll see more of what we saw last night. We can win without everybody being "on", we just need more than what we had last night. -

Just as it probably wasn't fair to race to judgment after this team picked up a couple of wins they weren't expected to win, so is not fair to say this team will be as terrible as we watched yesterday. We'll have a little bit of everything this year. We'll have games like this again, I'm sure. But we'll have games where Andre and Ray play well too. Or perhaps it will be Parker or Shields. We will see games where they play well and games there they don't. -
This thread is funny. That game was televised, btw. Watching the CU/Wisky game, I don't know if NU can defend CU, but they'll get opportunities to score. If they can finish and make some shots, they'll give themselves a chance. We'll see if they can do that or not.
