Honest question: True Freshmen vs. Redshirt Sophomores

Also, we shouldn't discount Petteway's experience at Tech or Pitchford's at Florida. Those are big boy conferences. -
Honest question: True Freshmen vs. Redshirt Sophomores
uneblinstu replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
It's never going to be easy in the Big Ten, not that anyone has said it would be. Everyone is trying to get better. This conference will lose a lot this year. There will be several players going to the NBA, I think. Purdue and Iowa should be really good next year. NU should be more talented next year, top to bottom, but will be very thin at the 5, in all likelihood I could very well see a season very similar to what Iowa or Purdue is facing right now for NU. Iowa came out of the gates on fire but hit reality in conference play and will likely fall just short of the NCAA unless they find a way to beat Indiana this week or catch fire in Chicago (which they have the talent to do). Purdue really struggled out of the gate and is just now starting to play well, but it might be too little too late to even get into the NIT. They've got Michigan and Minnesota at home. Possible they win them both, but not likely, but they're playing their best ball right now. I could see either scenario for NU next year. I don't see them being a 4 win in conference team next year. They'll be better than that. probably 3 to 4 wins better. It's going to be really interesting to see how the (at least) six new guys mix into this roster. There's little doubt the roster will be significantly more talented. That *should* translate into more success, but it may not happen right away. -
With a new Zombie video...what has gotten into Harvey ?

Pretty impressive sale job by whatever marketing wiz got Harvey to sign off on this. -

Sure. What's your point? Obviously his point is that we have no depth. If we had some producers that could come off the bench we'd have better chances to win games like the one on Saturday. Get it? What's the point of making a point that's been made a couple of times a day over the past year. We're not breaking new ground here. -
There are at least three players at Central other than Agau that have the talent to play D1. I haven't seen them yet, but I hear there are a couple of players at Bryan and South that are legit as well. The next 3-5 years is supposed to be one of the most talented crops in the Metro in a couple of decades.

Sam was speaking more towards a mentality than an individual.

Wait, why is it crazy to think McDermott will head to the NBA? If it's true that there's some big time talent coming up in Nebraska (and Omaha specifically) that can help NU make a climb up the Big Ten ladder, there's no reason they couldn't also help out Creighton if they're in a conference of that quality. If McDermott can recruit players of that level, and that was his knock at ISU, it won't take them that long to adjust to competing at that level.

I think it was Diaz and McCray that had the foot issues.

I'm not going to judge the effort of any single player. Ubel has the most difficult assignment game in and game out of any player on the team. -
If you missed it, Coach Miles and his family was featured on the Journey. Talked about his relationship with his dad who recently had open heart surgery, the day before the first Illinois game. Pretty powerful stuff. Watch it if you can. It'll be on several more times over the next few days. Here is most of it courtesy of BTN on youtube Click here to view the article

I saw him in the boxscore early in the first half, long before Tyrance got in there. ESPN isn't known for their most accurate in game box scores... -
I haven't seen nearly enough of Webster to compare him to anyone. Also, Larkin didn't step onto campus and immediately become the leader of that team. He was just a role player last year and I'd argue Webster probably has a bigger adjustment to make than Larkin probably did.

We actually hit zero shots in crunch time, but hit several shots leading up to that so that crunch time meant something. Also, three missed layups, a missed dunk and two bad threes by Gallegos and Rivers that never drew iron loom large. -
First Half: - Is there a team that runs the odd man break worse than the Huskers? - Ray was having one of his "on" halves. Need it in the 2nd if they want to stay in it. - Rivers looked fine. - Like the battle these guys have on the boards. - Illinois not shooting lights outl ike they did in Lincoln. - Still no sign of Almedia. Heard he was healthy, also heard he's still not athletic enough to hang with the likes of Egwu. Actually, I didn't need to hear that... - Illinois getting a fairly decent amount of open looks from the perimeter. Not a good recipe for success. Second Half: - Illinois was stuck on 39 for a while, NU couldn't take advantage. - Shields and Ubel making a couple of beautiful passes. - Huskers hitting some big shots in the second half. - Games like this why Gallegos will be among the minutes leaders next year. - Illinois hitting some big shots too. - For a guy that was thought to maybe not even play, Rivers was pretty crucial today. - Been a couple of times when NU could stretch the lead and took some pretty poor shots in those situations. Gallegos and Rivers, specifically. - Parker basically reduced to five fouls right now. - Talent disparities vs. NU and opponents most apparent at end of games right now. - ESPN box says Vucetic got in. Did I miss that? In the end, it's another close game vs. a very good team on the road. Another game that gives fans hope for the future, but got to think it's really frustrating for the team. This is three games they could have won on the road vs. some of the best teams in the conference. This post has been promoted to an article

They'll put you on a wait list for now until they invoice current season ticket holders for their new seats. There will still be some tremendous values available after that. Get in line now!

Think Norm is spot on, think the 5 kids playing all the minutes are gassed. Overall: Gallegos averages 37.3 mpg Talley averages 35.3 mpg Ubel averages 32.2 mpg Shields averages 27.3 mpg Rivers averages 24.6 mpg Conference games only: Gallegos averages 38,8 mpg Talley averages 35.4 mpg Ubel averages 33.5 mpg Shields averages 30.5 mpg Rivers averages 28.7 mpg I don't buy the tired part. These are 18-22 year old kids in the prime of their life and prime condition. They get 4 media timeouts a half, plus the potential for 10 timeouts during the game, and halftime and are technically playing in 4 min spurts. I know it's physical but that's not too bad Even youth grow tired and weary.
