  1. The "if we win our Thursday game the team should be summoned back to Lincoln Thursday night so they can participate in the parade the mayor is throwing them Friday morning" or similar sentiments story line.
  2. Sorry, I don't mean to be a jerk, but that storyline is just really old to me.
  3. i love your optimism and hope, but if we win our Thursday game the team should be summoned back to Lincoln Thursday night so they can participate in the parade the mayor is throwing them Friday morning. Why? Because they beat another mediocre team on a neutral court? This feigned hyperbole thing is getting tired. This team has consistently given good effort. They'll do it again in Chicago and let the results take care of themselves. Take it one game at a time. If they have to figure out how to avoid the wall on Friday, I'd imagine they'll happily cross that bridge if they get to it.
  4. I understand it, too. Keep up the good work. I'm planning to push the "it's Will Shields' son" angle pretty hard. Whatever works.
  5. Oregon football, perhaps? Screw it. Let's just set our own precedent.
  6. I understand it, too. Keep up the good work.

  8. We're wouldn't get a seed high enough, anyway.
  9. I'm sure they do. They should. They're in the state finals and upsets happen, but the two teams I watched today weren't on the same level.
  10. I believe that came during the stretch that Tradeon Hollins (or was it Thurman?) was hurt. If the same Central team shows up tomorrow that played today, it won't be close.
  11. Sorry, dude, but I don't agree with this, either. There aren't many programs in the country that with the history NU has and the stretch they're coming out of, or perhaps should say, still in, that would average near 10,000 fans in conference play. You're saying things that need to happen, but these things are underway or have happened already. The past three years, this program is nearly unrecognizable to what it was five years ago. The majority of this team's fans are not enthusiastic about cheering for Creighton. The majority of them barely know Creighton exists. The fans that are Jayskers aren't close to the majority, and frankly, they're not the problem. Royalfan mentioned this at the get-together on Wednesday and I completely agree with him. The problem is with the fans that are militantly football only. The ones that treat basketball not as though it doesn't exist, but that it shouldn't. It's that segment of the fanbase that does more damage than any group of Jayskers could ever imagine having. If/when Miles gets this thing rolling, and I don't think that's a given, this thing will explode. There's no doubt in my mind.
  12. i think so.
  13. I'd go the other way on this one. I've been fairly impressed with how much coverage the team has gotten considering the expectations of the team. There are a bunch of basketball fans on the airwaves. They want a good product to talk about. When they get it, they'll talk about it. It's a bit of a chicken/egg deal.
  14. Went to the Class A games this morning. Central completely overwhelmed Benson. Central's got several Big Ten caliber athletes, not much structure to what they do offensively. It sorta turned into a pick up game after a while. Central's athleticism turned over Benson all morning. Thomas for Benson might be a player, but he got almost totally shut down. He was about all the Bunnies had. In the second game, #5 and #3 for South were intriguing prospects. I don't remember what their names were. #5 ran the point and was built pretty similarly to Lance Jeter, or at least has a frame that could develop into that. #45 for South had a nice day too. Would be a project, but might be a guy UNO would look at. South's fundamentals fell apart down the stretch. #23 had a game he'll want to forget. Missed two dunks, several free throws, including an air ball on the front end of a one and one. Followed that up with a pretty bad foul 80 ft. away from Papio's goal. Monarchs pulled away after that, but it was a six point game or less when most of it happened. He'll live with that one for a while. Didn't see much that I think would translate on Papio's roster. They play pretty well together, not a ton of skill, if they can run their offense, though, they could give Central fits. Not sure Central will let them do that, though. Not sure where the best place for this thread was...
  15. Central just overwhelmed Benson today. They bottled up Thomas pretty good.
  16. I'm featured fairly prominently in two of those pics in the album...
  17. Looking forward to seeing the Class A games tomorrow. Glad the first round went chalk.
  18. Or who he has posters of in his basement? I think it's presumptuous to assume he can't play at Nebraska. Players come from remote places, too. Has anyone actually seen him play? If not, let's not assume he can't play at that level. Another year of development and a redshirt year and see what happens. I agree with Norm. He's got a frame that has a lot of room for development. I wonder if he's at the level Drake Beranek was coming out of High School? There's not really that much difference between C2 and D1, especially in basketball. If he's as good as Drake (I know they play different positons...) he'd be worth the shot.
  19. Hey Norm, how'd my picture turnout?
  20. It's officially at 5:30, right?
  21. I always parked in the Russian Bottom's, too, but I'd try to park on the north side of the street as often as possible because if I parked on the south side, I'd always have to cross traffic to turn around and get out of the neighborhoods. If I parked on the north side, I could just merge. the other thing is that if you cut over to Charleston from New Hampshire, that street was regulated by a street light at 10th, so you didn't have to wait for a gap in traffic. I never understood why people waited to get into the fairgrounds. I passed that line of cars that went the length of that antelope valley overpass every game an just laughed, especially at the cars that were trying to merge right into that line of cars. I told a few friends that went to games from time to time to park in the neighborhoods and walk over and skip the fairgrounds all together Nearly every single time they didn't want to put up with the hassle and just went to the fairgrounds. They'd still be waiting to get out and I'd be home and on to the chatter nearly every single time.
  22. I wouldn't want to play Iowa again. We've been in that situation way too many times the past few years. I'd love to play Purdue again. If the schedule is like it is for the women's tourney, we'll get the early game and the arena will likely be empty...
  23. This one started out with the HHC get together at Barry's. Had a nice turn out and really enjoyed putting some names and faces with HHC ID's. Thanks a ton to Cip for setting that up. Everyone seemed to be having a good time. Hope we can do that again next season. - What a wonderful way to close the place out. Crowd was phenomenal from the beginning. The guys played with energy from the beginning. - Fitting that it was Ubel making plays down the stretch. Felt great for him and the rest of the guys to get this game. - Talley was really good today. Could tell he was really enjoying the moment. - I didn't really know what to expect from this game. I thought everything that happened was appropriate. Seniors making plays, classy, yet restrained tribute to the Bob, crowd with tons of energy all game, a close, tense game. It was really just perfect all the way around. - Rodney Williams had zero points? Dang. What a turnaround. - Thought it was great that Pike, Strickland and Hoppen addressed the crowd. - It felt like there was a lot more on the line for the Huskers than there was, in all reality. - Impressed the Red Zone gave Eliason the grief they did. I didn't really expect that. - Felt good for Andre to contribute as much as he did. Though he played pretty well, too. - There was a stretch there in the second half where Mbakwe basically dominated. We had a lot of trouble with him tonight. - Glad we didn't give it away with that lightning fast five second call. - Coach Miles' enthusiasm after the game was fun to watch, too. That's where I'm going to wrap it up tonight. Just a fun night. This post has been promoted to an article
