  1. I feel like we need to create awareness of this situation. With the arena being sold out, we need that building packed for the first game, especially with the espn audience. Maybe this is a thing of the past and I shouldn't be worried about it. But, I have a feeling that some good numbers of Husker fans are heading out to Michigan for that game. Some of them heading out there probably also have new arena tickets. Now nobody on this board was probably doing this, but in the past if you had basketball tickets and a conflict arose it was no big deal. Those tickets were usually wasted and it was "I'll just try to make the next game." Now that there's demand for those tickets, there's no excuse for not finding a good home for them if you are not able to go. I hope there is some sort of culture change that is hitting a majority of the casual fans as well. You have to remember that over half of that sold out arena is filled with casual fans until we start winning. Without any games being played in the new place yet its hard to tell if its same old, same old basketball is 2nd fiddle with some of the "I just got seats because of the new arena" fans. A scenario where there are very many empty seats for that first game is hard to imagine. But I can also see quite a few basketball "fans" heading out to Michigan spacing off the first Nebrasketball game and leaving the tickets to rot at home. I posted it to twitter that I was disappointed I would miss the game. Had someone claim them w/in 5 minutes. Mine aren't going unused.
  2. Yeah, I'm going to be in Michigan... Wish I could be in both places.
  3. He's just a puppy. Get him in a weight room and look out!
  4. Completely disagree with this. We will be a team that will continuously gets better throughout the year because we're young and inexperienced. We were a complete train wreck at the beginning of last year and this is a November game on the road. The early 2013-14 team probably beats the early 2012-13 team but it's much more likely we stumble out of the gate again. UMass is bringing back their best player from last year and a lot of guys with a lot of minutes. They could kill us and we could make the NIT/NCAA tourney. I believe they return their top three scorers, all averaged more than 12 ppg. They're a borderline Top 25 team.
  5. Yeah, I can't see us winning a neutral court game vs. a team that got bounced in the first rount...of the NIT either.
  6. Basically, the Devaney Center will be taking the place of Pershing.
  7. Last I heard that is still up in the air. No it's not. The bid for the state tournament that got approved last week included the Devaney Center.
  8. I hope you're right. Everything I've heard from people that have been to practices, and I mean everybody, it's been unanimous, is that there is going to be a significant upgrade in talent and athleticism almost across the board, they just are going to be inexperienced. There may be some bumpy moments and they'll probably drive us crazy more than once, but I'm expecting you'll also see them grow steadily. Hopefully they'll be ready by the time they head to Ann Arbor.
  9. Maybe, depends on what NU's record and MU's record is and if OSU goes to the MNC. There are a ton of variables that go into who goes where. Also, I'm not writing off any game four and a half months before it may or may not happen. I think by the end of the year, the defense will be pretty good.
  10. Will be much easier to get to the basketball tournament, thus giving you the chance. I hope they both do this soon. Miles is playing in, potentially, the most difficult conference in the country. Getting to the tourney is not going to be easy, but I think Miles can get there in the next five years. Pelini can't win the conference when the two best teams in a weak conference can't even make the conference championship game. The time for Pelini to make the BCS was last year and he missed it. B1G football is going to be top-heavy very soon, and Nebraska isn't going to be sniffing the playoffs because they won't get past tOSU or Michigan (let alone both in the same season). Though he's currently playing in a more difficult conference sport-wise, I have greater faith in Miles to do what has never been done in this history of the school over Pelini to do what several coaches prior have done (play for the big one...or even make one of the "big" bowls). He didn't say it was going to be easy, he said it was going to be "easier", and he's right. Miles has to get to the middle of the pack, no easy feat in its own right to be an NCAA worthy team in this conference. Also, I disagree that the window is closed for NU to get past the conf. title game. There's talent coming up through the ranks on the defensive side of the ball, they're going to be much more athletic over there. It might not take hold completely this year, but you're going to see them get closer to the caliber of athlete you saw in 09 and 10 that shut down the Big 12. They've been stockpiling talent on the offensive side of things so they should be good on that side for a while. If NU goes undefeated or even one loss, they're not going to get shut out of the BCS. There's going to be a lot of things that NU can't control, nor any team for that matter, about getting into the playoffs, and conference schedules is one of those things, they're going to just have to take care of business with what the have in front of them. They should be in the conference title game 3 of the next 4 years. If you told me that, I'd take it right now, no questions asked and take my chances they'd find a way to be successful there soon enough. Get there and anything can happen in a one game situation.
  11. It'd be a run-away in just about every place you'd put the poll up other than this one. And that's ok.
  12. I their defense, we've had our hearts broken way too many times. That next shoe is due at any moment now...
  13. You can remove your tongue. It will rival it when it's done. It'll be another 5 years or so, but when it's all done, though.
  14. Connie has been able to find great talent in the state though. That makes it a lot easier. That's helped, no doubt, but her two best players weren't locals. They were from about as far away as you can get without leaving the country. The women's hoops program was also in a hole that was deeper than what Miles inherited. That program was all sorts of a mess when Sanderford left.
  15. I don't nearly have the negative feelings for Bo and the direction of the program that a lot of people have. I think this could be one of the top two or three offenses in school history. Bo's grown a lot since that night in College Station but still is seen as that hot head which really isn't the case nearly as much as most would make it seem. He's fiercely loyal to his players and they all say they love playing for him. He does need to fix the defense this year, but they're going to be much more athletic across the board, hopefully that will translate into more success on the field. They don't need to be great, they just need to be decent and this team will have a very good season. I don't favor one sport over the other, I cheer as for hard for football as I do for basketball, I like having some diversity in my rooting seasons and love how the seasons leads into the next. I've also said before that I think Yori is the best coach on campus. You can make a case for a couple of other coaches but there isn't any that's better than Yori.
  16. But the first thing we need to do is finish those near misses. Close that gap and that's 3 to 5 games from last year, suddenly, that season takes on a whole different feel. You close that gap with better talent, and if what we're hearing about the guys coming in is only halfway true, they've improved the talent from last year. Will that translate into wins? Time will tell, but the Big Ten won't be as strong as it was last year and NU should be stronger than it was. It's not unreasonable to expect some of those games to tip in favor of the Big Red. I hear ya but its not usually that simple. The games against better opponents that we almost won were ugly and it was usually due to the other team having a bad game. I would argue that they simply weren't up to play us. If we start doing better than we will get more respect and we won't be able to sneak up on MSU or Wisky. Maybe, but it happend multiple times. If it happened only once or twice, that'd be one thing, when you see it happen five or six times, you have to start crediting the team that's playing in all those games. You're right though, it's not that simple, my thought is just that if the team is better and the conference is worse (which it will be, though still likely very good) it *should* translate into more success. How that plays out in the W-L columns? That's anybody's guess.

  18. Are they perhaps going away from the Adidas ball? They always had a billion of those balls for practice ever since they had started using them. Entirely possible.
  19. I believe the plan is to also continue developing the Haymarket to the south. At least another 4 or 5 blocks from what I've heard.
  20. If Pitch has any sort of outside shot, watch out! If he can defend nearly as well as Ubel that is a major upgrade at the 5 That's different than saying "his game compares to Kevin Durant". That's a reckless statement. He may be very skilled, but let's pump the brakes a bit if we're thinking he's going to be that big of a boost. The writer was just comparing styles. He actually says, "We are not saying he's as talented as Durant, not even close, but the style of his game compares to what Durant does so well." Doesn't matter. Once you put that name in the piece, that's all anyone sees.
