Breakdown of the Charleston Classic
The Polish Rifle replied to The Polish Rifle's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Ours and Clemson vs. Temple are ESPN 3, plus all of the loser bracket games. IF we get into the second round and the title round our games will be on ESPN 2...that'd be some great coverage. -
Found this on ESPN, thought I would share: Breakdown

If he can get rondo to buy in he will be in for a much smoother transition. He didnt luck out getting Butler to 2 straight title games, the guy has one of the best minds in basketball. High Risk/High Reward situation.

When do we get the first 2014 verbal?
The Polish Rifle replied to ajb5856's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
Schools without a commit for the 2014 class: Kansas, Marquette, Gonzaga, UCLA, Memphis, Villanova (just a start) The 2013 recruiting cycle just ended. Official Visits will happen throughout the season.....it'll probably be months before we see a commit. Miles is still building relationships with these kids, in no way should you EXPECT to see commits this early in the year. -
If it were only about facilities, I suspect many of them would do just that. Unfortunately, a big part of it is WHERE the facilities are located. And for many of these guys, this is still thought to be an outpost in the middle of nowhere, a long way from home. And with a culture way different than home. It takes a lot of selling. It will always be difficult, just like it is in football. Still, I like our chances to sign higher levels of recruits than in the past 10-15 years. Things are looking up, but patience will still be required. Why can KU basketball bring in the recruits they do (or KSU for that matter) when they're in the same place geographically as Nebraska's football team? KU basketball has all the geographical disadvantages NU football does, yet I've yet to hear a Jayhawk complain about how hard it is to get kids to play there (like we hear annually for NU football). Not exactly apples to apples. I could leave Lawrence and be in the downtown Country Club Plaza in KC in less time than it would take me to drive from Lincoln to Omaha. As HB said, Lawrence is practically part of the KC metro area anymore. A more apples to apples comparison would be Kansas State and Nebraska. I've thought about that as well. The fact is its easier to bring in two to three 4 and 5 star basketball players, while in football you need to bring in a class of 25 guys year in and year out. Each year nebraska football and KU basketball brings in 2 or 3 absolute studs, but the difference that is KUs entire class, while the football team needs to fill it out with 20 more guys. Just a thought.

Leon Gilmore - 2014 PF
The Polish Rifle replied to Nebrasketballer's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
They switched gears on you, Silver. They went from talking '14 Leon Gilmore to '16 Hunter Janacek. And I was back to taking about '14 Leon Gilmore, not the '16 kid. And after all the '14 offers we've made, I'm kind of at a loss with this news. According to Rivals, this kid doesn't have any other offers. I see some websites list him as a SG/SF. According to stats I saw on one of his highlight vids, he shot 25% while averaging 13.7 ppg and 6.6 rpg. Rivals has him as a PF but they don't list his weight. He's variously listed at 6'6" or 6'7". That just doesn't sound like the size to play PF or the shooting ability to be a SG/SF. Can anyone shed any light? I saw 25% from 3pt, 47% from the field on maxpreps.....4.2 assists a game as well -
I looked through some rosters and found about 15 guys in that league that averaged 10+ ppg in big time D1 basketball, I think you are selling the league way short
-
Yeah I agree, and he was playing against grown men as well. Turnovers will happen when you have a high school kid going against guys that have played big time basketball for some-time now. I guess my main concern would be the free throw %. Miles will get that straightened out pretty quickly is my guess.

FGC : Take it to the Bank!
The Polish Rifle replied to Handy Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
This is stupid and I don't understand how I'm supposed to be excited about this. This game would be a complete joke had FGCU not won some games this year in the tournament. Nobody would know who they are (just like nobody knew who they were 2 years ago when they came here) had they not won those NCAA tournament games. Quite frankly, a lot of our newer season ticket holders who may just be casual basketball fans and may not have watched every game of the NCAA tournament, will probably need an explanation as to who this FGCU team is. Plus Doc was able to pull the W against them two years ago, and nobody said nice things, so Miles better come away with a win. Dude, you didn't have to watch every game of the NCAA tourney to know who FGCU is. Dunk City was viral and they were everywhere. After this last NCAA tourney, there are probably more casual fans that don't know who Nebrasketball is than there are fans that don't know who FGCU is. It's up to you whether or not you like the game, but it's crazy to say that people won't know who they are. "This game would be a complete joke had FGCU not won some games this year in the tournament." ...but they did...and they made it to the Sweet 16... FGCU blew up last year, they aired a pep rally live on ESPN, ESPN also couldn't go 5 minutes without talking about them. I'm not saying it was the best move we could make but still there will be some hype around this game. Not to mention they are returning 4 out of the 5 starters from a team that made the sweet 16. -
Kevin Thomas: Juco PF, former Texas commit
The Polish Rifle replied to TheKamdyMan's topic in Husker Hoops Recruiting
I see how it is -
Those teams, along with Nebraska, haven't filled their need for big men this late in the game. Like us, they are going after the best available big men left. Pitt has 2 very good PF commits and probably one of the best JUCO centers committed. For what its worth. And, didn't Auburn sign Matthew Atewe?!? haha yes, and auburn has one very raw PF, but Pitt is looking really good with their current class of bigs, I wonder how high their interest is in Kanter at this point.
