Nicely done on the end of your report there Scott ( well the beginning was just fine too ).

I hope like heck you are right. I'm guessing Penn State is thinking the same thing. But, let's say we play our guts out tomorrow and we just can't shoot it in there to save our lives and Shavon gets some cheap quirky fouls called on him and is a non factor and some guy the scout says "can't shoot a lick" so we decide to take our chances and sag off him big time in order to help inside b/c we are playing our small line up and he nails 3 key treys at various crucial points in the game and the game gets away and we end up losing by 20. The analysis will be fun after that. Miles is certainly giving all he's got ( thanks for posting that Hugh ) and I tend to think the team is to. Coach is not conceding anything and I really appreciate that fight.

I'd be one of them for sure. No contradiction in my mind at all b/c NO comparison. You gotta know when and how and most importantly not get spittle on the guy AND not come really close to bitting his nose AND not having the guy be so distracted by your behavior that he is not hearing you b/c he's standing there seriously wondering if you will literally explode. BTW, glad you got to go in person last night ! -
If we can make one player cry again this year...

Ah thanks Silverbacked. The girlfriend thing, seems like maybe I remember that ( last year it got some pub ? ). I didn't see the gestures yesterday....who knows what I was watching, probably had my head in my hands crying each time. Not crazy about that stuff in general...old school, I want our teams at NU to do it with some class. Therefore not crazy about Ray getting in the USC guys face earlier in the year or some of our football teams defensive players strutting around after making a play. It's all so cliche and common anymore. -
Folks seriously, ever since the Barry Collier era began we have pretty much had no business being on the floor with any kind of a good team within our conference. We were sometimes competitive b/c we played our guts out or played a different style that gave people trouble while playing our guts out. As kdlm64 points out in the OP, this is perhaps the most challenged roster yet. And yet people act like we should be winning games ? Now don't get me wrong, I want the coach and team to fight to the death and not concede a thing. On a slightly different topic, but related in this case.....I rarely buy the notion that a team wasn't playing hard or didn't come ready to play. It's such a lame, shallow thing to say or think IMHO most of the time. People are saying that about last night for example. I haven't heard everything coach has said about the game and I know he wasn't happy about some things and was going to really make them work today. All that aside, I think it's just as logical to conclude that the game got away from us and at that point the team went into ultra-desperation mode and some things worked out and we got back into the game. This, despite our roster overall talent, despite missing Ubel, despite now really really tired guys b/c of how few are getting playing time. We took some chances, played our guts out and got back into the thing. Let's not forget the boost from Jordan. All I am saying is we've got to have a ton of things go right for us to JUST BE IN THE GAME against most anybody in our league at this point. Just b/c you "want it more", it doesn't mean automatically that you will get... calls your way, shots to fall, overcome injuries, overcome a challenged roster etc etc.

I was at the game ( missed about the first 10 minutes ), and saw Byrd break our backs and deny us a sweet comeback. It seems like people are saying he was a jerk or something ( sorry if I missed something in other threads ) ? What did I miss ? -
Now I'm crying with Andre. You tellin' me that you wanted to keep Chris over me on the 'wolves ? That's right, it's me, I've been a closet Husker fan since visiting Lincoln on the Arkansas team in the NIT Danny's first year there.....har har har. All joking aside, I've got to start listenig to the show. Listened for the first time tonight. I realize everything is new and exciting with it being his first year, but man is coach a breath of fresh air. If he gets it done here, he will be an absolute legend.

Are you sure there's no such thing as ghosts?

At this juncture in the Miles era, it's up to the team to not settle and not be satisfied. For me as a fan, I don't think it can be overstated of how prowd I am of these guys and their fight. Being in these last 2 games right up to the end with all that is going on is SHOCKING to me. I simply have no idea how we can maintain this level with what we have going on. -
Wow ! And I loved Cookie...but man no comparison.

You gotta love Shavon, gonna be a special player. He's basicly a bigger and more athletic Ryan Anderson. -
I was actually surprised the fans were not on the refs more last night. Oh well, certainly a good crowd. I liked the drums from the band going out for the pre-starting NU lineup announcement. They haven't done that before have they ? They need to turn the piped in music down a bit so we can hear those drums ( maybe I'm just deaf ). I just thought that was cool. We need to keep doing new stuff like that. I'm not big on the jump around....that's Wisconsin's thing. We need to do our own thing.

I was down in the tunnel leading to the locker room as the players left the floor after their victory. Tai was right behind the players giving high 5's to the fans. He caught me off guard and I was kicking myself for merely high fiving him. If I could redo...I would say "we want Webster" in a soft chant fasion ( most of you know the red zone and others were chanting that a few times last night ) and given him a big grin or I could've simply asked " so are you N?"

LOL !!!

I'd take Red Panda over Quick Change any time. For me, plain and simple right before yours eyes it's amazing and you know it's her doing this unbelievable thing. Where with Quick Change ... I just think of it as some kind of "magic thing" and it doesn't impress me nearly as much. I'm sure no one cares, but hey I just added to my post count. I think Silverback's scenario in his OP would be cool !!!

Well this has been an interesting discussion. I've been wondering what would and would not be "OK" for the fans to do at Monday's game towards our visiting recruit. It seems like the New Zealand flag would be permissable, yes ? Is it OK, if we see him in the hall to say "please come to Nebraska Tia", sort of like what huskercwg said to Brian Jorge Diaz when he visited....remember that 'cw ? Do I have that memory correct ? Can the crowd chant " we want Tie went want Tia " ? I can't imagine that would get us in trouble either, but I'm curious and wondering about some of these things.

Tulane Game Thread: Watch Out for That Train......
lang replied to cipsucks's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
The start of this season really couldn't have gone any better up to this point could it ? Now how great would it be if the footballl team wins Friday and everyone is feeling really good and comes out supports these guys Saturday night...say 8-9000 fans with some energy from the get-go like we got at the end tonight ? Shavon seems like a Ryan Anderson type ( high hoops IQ, saavy etc ), except with more going for him athletically. Anyone else "seeing" that ? I've always thought that with a stronger supporting cast, that Ryan could have been even more effective ( not necessarily as big stat wise ). Hopefully Shavon will get that added benefit of a better overall roster. -

Guys I really think Ubel did a heck of a job on Davis down the stretch. Davis had that old school 3 point play on him when he started guarding him, but I think he pretty well shut him down for awhile there ? -
Killing two birds with one thread ...
lang replied to Norm Peterson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
Miles said in yesterdays news conferance that no one made the team from the tryouts. If they were not good enough to be put into the game, he didn't see a reason to take them on. We already have practice players. And yes, I had trouble last night too Norm. -
That is what I remember too Creighton Fan.

In case someone stumbles upon this thread and wonders if Weds. tickets are still available...they are spoken for.

This is maybe more trouble than it's worth, but I do have 2 cheap seat tickets to Wednesdays game that I'd give away if somebody wanted to use them. Probably should have put this in the marketplace section...figured no one would see it there. Scold me and move it if need be. Would just need to get them to you somehow. I live in East Lincoln and work in SW Lincoln, if those may be possible pick up places for you. Maybe I could even mail them. Anyhow, PM me if interested.

Me too cip. I really thought I was going to get a quick chance to say hello, but I couldn't make it over in time.

Best player you ever saw at the Devaney
lang replied to Handy Johnson's topic in The Haymarket Hardwood
The pro exhibition games are long enough ago that I'm getting fuzzy on the details. I do remember being in the floor bleachers and seeing MJ, Magic and Worthy. I think when the Pistons played here one of the stars was out with injury ( Isiah or Rodman ?). I'll throw out Byron Houston. Man that dude was a great college player.
