  1. Tim Miles remarked to a few boosters recently that he's concerned about fan expectations for next season being unrealistic. Losing Ubel and Talley will really hurt, we have no big men who can really play a traditional 4 or 5 role, and we have a ton of young, inexperienced players coming in. The staff definitely believes that it's possible that we actually could have a worse record next season than we do this season. Optimism can be fun, but it's very difficult for me, at least, to fathom a scenario in which Nebraska wins 10 B1G games next year. There's just no logical basis I can see for such a prediction. I find it hard to believe that a staff that believed they could win 8 games this year, fears that we will be worse next year. May I ask where you got that info? It was the seniors who had a goal of winning 8 games in conference and Miles said it was on the coaching staff to find a way to do this. Never heard the coaches say how many games they thought the team could win in conference or the non-conference.
  2. Melvin Brooks was a role player who played his role (rebound and defend) fairly well his junior year when we won the Big 8 tourney. Expanded his game to the 3 point line as a senior while still doing a good job on the glass and defending. As I recall we struck out on a better prospect and Melvin was our fall back. At 6' 8" and ~220, he was a decent athlete and he did what he was recruited to do coming in from junior college.
  3. More than likely, Ray will still be our most athletic guard next season, which I think tends to get overlooked. And for those that say he can't create his own shot, I would beg to differ. Considering teams know to guard the 3 point line, Ray still manages to create enough space to get the shot off, even without a screen. And when he is on the break he has had some acrobatic finishes that show he has more to his game than just shooting the jumper. With more experience his game should continue to improve and having better talent around him won't hurt either.
  4. I think this is a destination job for him. Minnesota, because it's the closest to his hometown, or maybe one of the schools with more basketball history might have been a destination in the B1G he wanted for the first 40 so years of his life. Before Colorado St, he was in colleges in North Dakota, South Dakota, and Minnesota. Considering how far from South Dakota he's moved in his life, Minnesota, Nebraska, and Iowa make sense for destinations. If being in the B1G his is dream, Nebraska joining the conference probably seemed like destiny. This. No inside info here, but I think Miles intends on making Lincoln his last stop.
  5. Or is this posted somewhere else on the site?
  6. Hawkins looks pretty solid. From the video, he appears more versatile than his teammate Carroll, who's going to Okie St. and if he is truly 6'6", that gives us even greater size on the wing.
  7. Central's big win.
  8. I would like to see us develop a good looking uniform and stick with it. Something that is distinct enough that when you see it on sports center you immediately know it's Nebraska. We have a brand for football, time to start one for basketball.
  9. I don't even know what to say about this..... He hasn't been misused? The team's record isn't 15-45 with Ubel? Hopefully 16 after today. Worse run was in regards to Husker hoops not Ubel. We need new blood that knows how to win. If he was misused as you say, is that his fault? The team's record of 15-45 is all on Brandon and his supporting cast has nothing to do with the team's win-loss record? It's obvious we need more talent, so how can you bag on players that essentially have been over matched during conference play their entire career? Ubel was recruited to play basketball here and he has done that to the best of his ability.
  10. I don't even know what to say about this.....
  11. Let's see who can identify the native Nebraskan in these highlights?
  12. Just curious, but did you watch the press conference or just read the quotes? Just going by the quotes, it comes off harsh, but listening to it and hearing the context of which he is answering questions gives a different tone IMO.
  13. Here is the link to the presser: http://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1467243
  14. It's not about the effort, it's about the athletes.
  15. I say we let Ray shoot every time down the rest of the game to see if he can break 40.
  16. Yup...hard to believe. Was that Doris Burke - regardless - she indicated that she remembered 4 or 5000 fans who showed up to watch her play play a softball game but couldn't remember who Danny Nee was??? Really? Wasn't Burke. I'm pretty sure her visit to Lincoln was post Nee anyway, so wouldn't expect her to know who he was.
  17. I loved watching Almeida after getting frustrated by Illinois players out jumping him for rebounds resort to getting a run and smashing into them to get position. Never called once last night. Might say more about how the game was officiated. It was amazing that Almeida didn't get any fouls called on him while doing this. Looked more like a lineman run blocking. Well, Andre's version of it.
  18. #2 on your list is #1 for me. A close second would be an offensive player giving a pump fake to get a defender into the air, the defender is going to fly by the offensive player, but the offensive player jumps into the path of the defender getting the foul call. This to me is the same as flopping by a defender. Fortunately it doesn't happen much.
  19. I'm not sure how lack of effort by the players can ever be attributed to a coach. If you are a competitor, you shouldn't need to be motivated by a coach or anyone else. JMO. I said that the team did not look well prepared. I provided three categories...perhaps all three are "on" the players, but some of it could have been game plan, or sharpness, or whatever...My point was that you could "argue" for a lower grade. You could also simply chalk it up to the appearence that we came to the horse race with plow horses, and Illinois showed up with thoroughbreds? I hear you cwg. My comment was in regards to the "not ready to play" comments from some of the players. I agree with your analogy about the talent and hopefully the additions to next years roster will add a few thoroughbreds to the stable.

  21. Ray always had the quick release, he just chose to shoot essentially a set shot from 3. Whether it was suggested by a coach to start shooting a jump shot from deep or Ray made the change on his own, I don't know. Ray's overall game has improved, in particular his ball handling.
  22. Ubel = Stud Shields = Baller Gallegos = Assassin No doubt. He is a dead-eye assassin 22% of the time! Noticed Ray got his first rest of Big 10 play in the first half, but still played 38 minutes. I know he's inconsistent, but just think where we would be this year without him.
  23. That's the message Miles sent. Purdue was getting want they wanted on offense. He called a time out before letting Purdue run out the clock to illustrate the point to the team. I listen to all the post games shows on the way back from home games. It was the first time I heard Miles sounding disgusted. Miles didn't look too happy during the post game interview with the media: http://nebraska.rivals.com/content.asp?CID=1461079
  24. He played very poorly tonight, and needs to make shots from the outside to get minutes. I do think the injury has something to with it, but if he doesn't work on his shot during the off-season, he will see much less minutes next year. Parker also appears to be lacking confidence, but 7 minutes? Doesn't bode well for future playing time.
