I know college sports is a business and a big business at that but I still cringe at the notion that we are asking scholarship players to transfer. The whole system is grossly unfair for the players and unless they transferred to a lower division, these three will likely have to sit out a year and wouldn't be eligible for a waiver to play immediately...another topic for another day.

Here's an idea for a modified HHC single game contest...How about for the first regular season game, predict the number of points for the following: 1) # of points that all players new to Nebraska's roster for the 2019-2020 score (i.e. Burke wouldn't count here) 2) # of points that returning players from the 2018-2019 roster score You add up the difference between your pick and actual for both predictions and lowest total wins. I have a differing viewpoint on this. He's choosing to spend time with and support his son and his team. I don't see the difference whether his son is the best player on the team or the last one on the bench. Having two kids myself, I'm learning first hand that the older they get, the less they need you as a parent. I'm not saying Jack needs Fred right now but the opportunity as a parent to support your kids in person and in the here and now becomes much less frequent the older they get. I have no problems at all with Fred trying to take advantage of these fleeting opportunities!

Not saying I would rather have him over Hoiberg. Just wanted to give the guy credit for what he accomplished. Your point is completely fair and valid. However, I think it has more to do with what would be an apparent bait and switch. It would be like entering a contest to win a Ferrari, finding out you won, getting super excited, and then only to find out that for whatever reason, you didn't win a Ferrari but a Honda Accord. Over time you would likely come to appreciate the Accord but in the immediate aftermath of the contest, you would be pretty pissed and disappointed. Sorry if this was a terrible analogy...I struggled to come up with something better. And, for the record, I own an Accord so no offense was meant to anyone else that drives a Honda ?

Um, I'm going to hope that this is another situation like Altman where a coach is trying to use our opening as leverage to extract more money out of their current employer or from another one they may be interviewing with. Being in the "pro-Miles" camp, I can buy off on moving on from him to Hoiberg or some other homerun hire but this just doesn't quite fit the bill. Look, Mike Anderson may be a great coach and it just didn't work out at Arkansas much like it didn't for Miles at Nebraska; however, this would be a huge disappointment to me and really make me wonder why we chose to tear down the foundation Miles had built with a coach who isn't all that much more proven. Also, I hope my use of the semicolon was acceptable ?

I couldn't agree more that he made the smart move. Thomas Allen is a good kid and I can say this confidently after a personal interaction I had with him after the Butler game. As a lot of you probably know, about 30 minutes after home games a lot of the players come out of the locker room to see friends, family or to sign autographs for kids. We were tipped off to this nugget last year after the UTSA game. My 9 year old couldn't have been more thrilled to meet his favorite players. My son and I drive back for a game once a year but made a second trip this year over his spring break to see the NIT game. One player he had never gotten a chance to meet during the three games we had seen in person, including Butler, was his favorite player - Isaiah Roby. We were meandering around the players tunnel a good 45 minutes after the Butler game and the security guard told everyone that was left that the Arena was closing in 10 minutes. The security guard and I got in a conversation and I was explaining to him that we were from Colorado and my son was hoping to meet Isaiah. We were told that there were other NIT media obligations for certain members of the team and that most players wouldn't be coming out. Well, Thomas Allen was standing pretty close by and happened to hear part of the conversation as he didn't have the same media obligations since he didn't play. He asked me who my son was trying to meet and I told him Isaiah. He whipped out his phone and called Isaiah on the spot and asked him where he was because "there was a kid from Denver that came all the way out to the game to meet him". Isaiah was getting treatment on his legs but told Thomas that we was more than happy for him to bring me and my son back so that he could meet him. Thomas escorted us back to the locker room and my son got the opportunity to meet his favorite player: Whatever Thomas Allen decides to do is ok in my book. Coaches can leave on their own or get fired and the kids are stuck either having to play for a new coach they don't know or potentially lose a year by transferring. I hope to see Thomas back in a Husker uniform but wish him nothing but the best wherever he goes. I'll be a fan of his wherever he is playing. I should also add that Roby couldn't have been any more generous with his time. He talked to my son for a few minutes, signed his poster, and certainly didn't have to take time out of his treatment. One thing I can say about every player we've met and quite honestly, we've met just about everyone over our past 3 trips is that all of those young men on the team were very respectful and gracious with the time they gave the hoard of kids after each game. I think this is a testament to Coach Miles and the character of the players he brought into Lincoln.

Posted this over in the coaching carousel thread but this is also very applicable to Hoiberg and the potential pit falls you can run into with hiring the "hot, up and coming coach". Moos said in a side interview with the pool reporters after the press conference that Altman was not considered or contacted. That of course means that Altman and his agent played the situation very, very well!!! I thought the smoke around Altman was real but I guess I was pretty naive on this one!

My best guess is that the 7-14 day timeline was to allow Fred to enjoy watching his son and his son's team in the tournament and to not be a distraction.

Another tweet from Sip: So, all signs continue to point to Fred coaching Nebraska next season. If Miles is gone, that is a great get and hire by Moos. However, you can praise Moos for the hire while still being critical of the process (I am!). Those two things are not mutually exclusive. I also cringed a little at Sipple's first tweet as if he's talking so nonchalantly about Miles getting fired and almost that he's glad this is happening as it fits the position he has taken over the last several weeks. I don't know, I might be reading too much into it but it almost seems like he is dehumanizing the situation for Miles. Miles has handled this entire situation with the same class and dignity he has displayed in his seven years here and I just don't think this was reciprocated to him at the end of his tenure. I will certainly miss him while also welcoming in the next era of Husker Hoops! This chapter cannot come to an end soon enough!!!!!!!

This is true. We are 9 rows behind husker bench and stadium is maybe half full and of the half that is here there is definitely more red than purple. Team looked loose and Watson was even smiling while he was dunking during warmups. TA is not playing today, he didn't test his ankle and was walking pretty gingerly. He looked worse walking today then last Wednesday. GBR!

Exactly how I feel. My son and I are driving out from Colorado tomorrow to watch the baseball game and then the basketball game. If things work out, we will either head down to Fort Worth to watch the TCU game or stick around for a 2nd home game if TCU loses. Got to love spring break road trips!!! Side note...if TCU wins and Nebraska happens to play them on Saturday, if you're up for an epic sports weekend, I would recommend taking a drive down to Tulsa to watch the NCAA tournament games and then making the short trek down to Fort Worth on Saturday morning. If things just happen to fall into place, that will be our plan!
